A New Gun in Town
August 07, 2006 11:58 AM
There is a new gun in town: a Swiss minigun the size of a key fob that can shoot an eye out, according to an Intelligence Bulletin from the Baltimore, Md. police obtained by ABC News.
Police officers face weapons of every description every day -- from "Hello Kitty Key Chains" that turn out to be razor sharp knives to guns concealed in cigarette packs. ABC News regularly reports on the phenomena. But this gun is unusual even in that mix.
It is advertised as the smallest fully functional revolver in the world. But it packs an outsized punch.
According to the Swiss manufacturer's website, "This firearm is a scaled-down model of the much acclaimed and mystical Colt Python with all the same features as are found on the real size gun."
Police officers have been advised to watch out for the gun, which fires miniature ammunition that could take an eye out at close range.
"The manufacture of this exceptional miniature revolver has only been possible by exploiting the incomparable expertise and latest technologies of the Swiss Watch and Jewelery Industry, upon which its worldwide reputation is built. Our revolver and its ammunition are 100% Swiss made," the manufacturer states.

Some readers here have a right-wing trigger finger. Nothing in this article is alarmist or seeks to elect a liberal, or calls for banning. Get off your Rush Limbaugh rope-a-dope and read the articles for what they say, not that filtered old, "liberal agenda" mess you could pull out of a box of Wheaties.
You're hatred for a different view than your own has robbed you of another chance to read an article for what it is, not what you can find in it.
Get off the O'Reilly koolaid!

Can you please include the purchase price, availibility and review of the product. Some useful product information would be nice!

Ask a blind person what their eyesight would be worth.

A Scare over some firearm that can't pierce the skin? That thing is neat!, and yes, something like that I'd definitely call a toy, I want one! People shouldn't even be scared of real firearms, be scared of idiots.

Any reporter worth his salt would have included the caliber and ballistics on this laughable piece of "gunnery," which is probably the equivalent of a gnat flying in your eye!

This story read like a human interest piece. No one was screaming to get on off the streets, there was no mention of gun control.
A Swiss company made a tiny gun. Nothing more, nothing less. Why are you all getting all left and right?
It is funny that the Swiss, the Kings of Being Nutrual have no problem with their country creating and selling fire arms of any size. It's ironic, really.

It is a shame that they didn't mention who the manufacturer was. But a quick search of the internet would lead you to swissminigun.com. On their site, they state it's 2.34mm caliber.

I can do a lot more damage with a ballpoint pen.

Ralphie should have asked for one of these instead of a Red Ryder.

And can I purchase a thimble full of bullets, hollow points if you have them.....(sarcasm)

Nice toy and probably a nifty little collectable. I can understand the general warning to law enforcement officers - it's an officer safety issue - but to warn the general public?? Stop the presses?! Right!

If the kids got hold of these and took them to school, we would have a heck of a time trying to find them. I know that there are a lot of schools out there that already use metal detector machines and wands. Most don't. What will the next idiot dream up and put out on the market to get our kids in more trouble, not to mention the adults with no brain???

So it's a toy. Too small to break skin..but it can poke your eye out. This sounds like the stuff my mother warned me about.
Posted by: mel | Aug 7, 2006 3:11:34 PM
Give me a break. This is as dumb as trashing Mel Gibson over and over and over and over AGAIN. Come on ABC. I know you are liberal and anti-gun but this is just stupid.

read this, look at the weapons
Posted by: me | Aug 7, 2006 3:20:17 PM
A sizeable punch? Yeah for an ant does this really belong in our news when we have oil prices going nuts and Hezbollah etc.

Does anyone realise that a cheap plastic squirt gun can be loaded with chemicals from bleach and amonia to some serious acids as well as biological agents AND still pass through metal dectors and most canine units undetected???????? Get real this thing is just a nuisance, you've already given the manufactor and the paranoids too much ink!

I'm thinking this article is a fake...something just to stir up activists. I've got a weapon that's just as powerful and can get past airport security. It's called a rubber band! Yep, and I can put your eye out at close distances.
Posted by: Lloyd | Aug 7, 2006 3:30:33 PM
Anybody remember the movie "A Christmas Story"? Must be a minature version of the Red Ryder Rifle that he tried to shoot his eye out with. Where's my mom when I need her, I can just hear her saying, "Be careful or you'll shoot your eye out....."
Posted by: Michael | Aug 7, 2006 3:39:08 PM
"You'll shoot your eye out!"
Oh please!! Guns don't kill people, stupid people holding guns kill people...
