Ivy League Professor Caught with Videos That Show Him Having Sex with Children, Feds Say
August 28, 2006 6:10 PM
An Ivy League business school professor is in federal custody for allegedly having videos of himself engaging in sexual acts with children, ABC News has learned.
Lawrence Scott Ward, 63, Professor Emeritus of Marketing at University of Pennsylvania's renowned Wharton School of Business, was caught with child pornography in his luggage and on his laptop computer after arriving at Dulles International Airport on a flight from Brazil, according to court documents.
An affidavit in support of a criminal complaint filed today in federal court in Alexandria says Ward's luggage was flagged for a more thorough inspection for possible child pornography after a customs officer noticed Ward's "excessive" trips to Thailand. Federal agents recovered at least three DVDs, in which Ward appears to be "engaging in sexual contact" with children, the affidavit reads. A video of children as young as eight engaged in sexual activity was also allegedly found on Ward's laptop computer.
Ward's resume says he has been a visiting professor at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. Federal officials believe Thailand to be a well-known destination for so-called "sex tourists" who travel there to exploit minors. Wharton's website also lists pro bono consulting work in Brazil as one of Ward's current projects.
According to published reports, in 1999 Ward was fined $2,500 and sentenced to five years probation on charges of attempting to promote prostitution and corrupt minors. In that case, he entered a plea which allowed him to acknowledge that there was sufficient evidence to convict him, without admitting guilt for those charges.
Ward's resume lists several government consulting assignments including work with the Executive Office of the President, the FCC, Department of Commerce and the Special Action Office for Drug Abuse Prevention. Many of his published works deal with the effects of television advertising and marketing on children and adolescents. According to his biography, Ward has been a marketing consultant to many top companies and lists IBM, Microsoft, General Motors, Home Depot, Exxon, Citibank and Johnson & Johnson among his clients. During the 1980s, he hosted a television program, "The Wharton Business Report" on the now defunct Financial News Network. Ward's biography also states that he was chairman of a foundation that served disadvantaged children with learning disabilities.
The University of Pennsylvania issued the following statement today, relating to Ward's arrest, "We have just learned of the arrest of Scott Ward in Virginia. At the present time, we have very few details. We are currently gathering information about the situation and will take appropriate action as soon as we know more."

It is not America's job to sanction any country with a different belief system than our own. We don't rule the world, though some would think otherwise. This man will go to jail, so he can no longer hurt children, but it won't do a lick of good. There are thousands of people involved in this, and the main players aren't the rich white American and European businessmen that they capture.

What's done in secret will eventually be exposed. Evil has been exposed...once again. I'm embarassed and don't even know the man. I hope he's eventually "set free" from his perverted lifestyle (maybe jail will help); admitting he is a pedophile and wanting help would be a step towards that freedom. Until then, he chooses to remain a slave. What irony.

Child sex/pornography is a widespread, albeit vile, phenomenon among the ruling-class elite. These sick individuals are not like you and I. They consider themselves to be above the law hold utter contempt for us "useless eaters". Do an Internet search on the "Bohemian Grove" to learn more about how world leaders engage in acts of mock human sacrifice and Satanic worship.

The Bible says that in the end times man will become wiser and
more evil. Also states the fact that the New World Order will be established by the forerunner of the beast, otherwise known as the
Anti-Christ. Looks as if both are
are gaining speed.

One can not blame one for having Cancer or Heart Disease, so why blame a patient with sexual abnormalities. I say the man needs medical attention and therapy and not the vedictiveness exhibited all over. My sympathies goes out the victimized children, and to the family of the accused. i wish him recovery from this dreadful disorder.

how was he still teaching. Wasn't he on probabtion for promoting prostitution and corrupting minors? Parents should think long and hard about sending students to universities that hire faculty with criminal records like that.

You are all missing the real issue here. This guy is clearly ill and needs serious psychological help. Hang'em high, and all the other rot you vultures spew misses the point. Your mob like mentality is pathetic. Do you really think he "chose" to flush his career, dreams, and reputation away in this manner?

I just don't understand the [in]justice system sometimes - make that "most" of the time. I mean, they (the law) had him dead-to-rights in 1999, but he got off with [esentially] a slap on the wrist. Go figure, huh. People, whether male -or- famale ought to be hung up, by their thumbs, in a public place - for all to see!!!

I attended Wharton several years ago for 3 semesters. I never had that creep as one of my professors, but most of the male professors at Wharton are arrogant and pompous. Almost any other MBA program in the country is better than Wharton's.

How about the hero in this case-- the customs officer who noticed the "excessive" trips to Thailand and flagged the luggage?? Withouth him/her, this guy would still be an unknown on the streets.

Why would we expect behavior like this to be punished correctly in American society when children are routinely killed when not wanted?? Rather than kill their "unplanned" kids, Thailand has figured a way to make money off of them. It won't be long in the USA when this same thing will occur. Godless officials make godless people.

I think if he is guilty they should let other male prisoners have there way with him and lets see if he thinks he is a billy bad.

Oh- you think he is bad- you should check out the school of psychology and the extremely poor "research" that essentially says that molestation of children doesn't necessarily harm children and that some children "benefit" from it. All PENN profs aren't like those monsters. Some are champions for the cause of victimology of children. Check out Dr.Anne Wolford Burgess who headed up the OENN Nursing School's Psychiatry tract- now there is a hero that has honorably dedicated her life to figuring out how to profile and track these creeps. PENN- like all institutions of learning need to take a hard look- make some changes in their tenure policies and get the losers out of there. There is also the Jerry Lee Center of Criminology at PENN that does alot of great work in this area. All of the Schools have bad guys. They need to be taken out of the schools and society.

Awful. Put them in prison for a very long time.
And keep these kids in your prayers please.

My heart breeaks evrytime I see one of these stories. We need to change legislation so that these crimes carry mandatory heavy sentences on first time offenders. Remember, it may be the the first time they are caught...but most assuredly they've been destroying lives for as long as they can remember. I can't begin to fathom how these people don't have a conscience. I can't even step on an ant without feeling remorse.
