Terror Attack on German Trains Narrowly Averted
August 18, 2006 2:59 PM
German officials revealed today that terrorists had attempted, but failed, to cause massive casualties with bombs placed on regional trains two weeks ago.
"These explosions were meant to go off," Joerg Ziercke, the head of the Federal Criminal police, said at a press conference in Germany today.
If successful, the attack would have been the third such attack on an European mass transit system, following bombs placed on Madrid and London trains and subways.
German officials said two suitcase bombs, containing bottles of gas, had been placed on trains in Koblenz and Dortmund. The officials said there were strong indications of an organized terror attack.
"We have found pieces of paper with Arabic letters and telephone numbers from Leganon in the clothes which were in the suitcases to insulate or fix the gas bottles," Ziercke said.
Police released photos taken by surveillance cameras in German train stations of suspects carrying large backpacks.
Police said it was not clear why the bombs failed to detonate, but that they had been wired to go off at the same time.

these muslim extremists are absolute FREAKS -
the cycle of evil created by brainwashing young muslim children is not excusable...
the muslim religious leaders are simply holding on to their power by breeding hatred amongst their members..
the ENTIRE WORLD must be on guard and fight against any form of evil behaviour - religious freedom is fine - but evil performed in the name of religion is still just that - EVIL

It is a shame in this day and age that people want to breed violence. I find it disgusting and the men and women who claim the are "religious muslims" are just plain evil. There is no God that wants humans tortured, persecuted or killed because we believe in a different lifestyle.
Shame on them, and to hell they will go. Their fantasies of a "paradise" after they die is just that, a fantasy. To hell they will go and there they will burn

I have a question...why doesn't Bin Laden want 70 virgins? Isn't it funny to all of you that he can talk these muslim kids into detonating themselves but he doesn't seem to be in any hurry to go take his fair share of the benefits of martyrdom. It really illustrates how stupid and utterly weak minded these people are. Get some spine and question what you are being told, children of Islam!!!

religion, such a waste of time and money. they are all nothing but cults and brainwashing.
Posted by: ek | Aug 18, 2006 5:54:30 PM
Does it not strike anyone as funny that these "organized" terrorists with the knowledge to build gas bombs would be dumb enough to leave personal information inside the "bomb"
WAKE UP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dont you see that this is a setup to further lead us on a road to government controll , tyranny and war .

In the World War 2, we were fighting fanatical facist Japanese who were blowing themselves up in 'kamikaze' missions. The ertswhile US administration had to spine to use the nuclear bomb, not once but twice. Why doesn't 21st century US administrations have courage to drop a couple of nukes on Pakistan and Afghanistan and purge the extremism from the roots ? The Japanese paid a price to learn that extremism leads to no gain. The same will hold true for the facists Islamics. You have to put the fear back into the hardline Islamic preachers in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Candidates for US presedential elections should have agendas for using nukes on people who would anyway kill themselves to kill us. What's the use of wasting millions of dollars maintaining nuclear weapons when you can't/don't want to use them?

people have too much time and too much money on there hands that they dont really know what to do with it....life is too short...well to the terroist...life is meaningless even their own...they need to be put aside somewhere far away from civilization...to rot in hell..have a happy death!!

I'm with T.J. Rather strangely convenient "evidence" - along with the lamer-every-day British airline plot (no tickets bought, most suspects had no passports, etc.) it seems that the most active terrorists lately are our own governments preying on our fears. Get some spine and question what you are being told, children of the West.
Posted by: Jane of NH | Aug 18, 2006 6:37:14 PM
WHAT?! You're talking about dropping nuclear weapons on where??
Idiots.
The evidence shows that it was BRITISH and SPANISH citizens who set up the exposions on those systems.
It's obviously a complex situation and one this is for sure -- nuclear bombs are NOT going to make anything better for anyone.
Extremists should not be tolerated -- and dropping nuclear bombs on muslim countries is EXTREMISM from the west. Good way to keep the battle raging forever.
Until we work to address the grievances in the muslim world (something Bush has patently refused to consider) the instability will continue. They have legitimate grievances, USA, face the facts. I think the Republicans and the military contractors want it to continue.

9-11 was an inside Job to get the American sheeple to follow Emperor Bush into foreign ventures abroad. don't believe the nonsene in this article. Read your history. Time to wake up and do you own research.

John's posting on Aug. 18, 2006 @ 6:14:31 p.m. reminded me of this famous saying:
Our natural aversion to war can be anesthetized by some inspirational rhetoric.
We know that the 72 virgins inspire the Islamic terrosists. We also know what John(s) inspired from.
Peace and cheers.

SURE! Another plot by Bush, right? When are the idiot lefties in this country going to realize that therre is one main difference between us and the terrorists. We have the ability to kill them all with one drop of a bomb, but we don't because we respect life and religion (sometimes too much). If THEY had the same opportunity to kill us with a drop of a bomb, we would surely be dead. They would not hesitate one second to kill us all. That is why we must not let the passive, weak leftists infiltrate our government any more. They will have us sit on our hands until we get attacked over and over. Jimmy Carter messed our country up the first time he was given a chance and now he, like many other Democrats, wants to blame America for the terrorists that he couldn't deal with in the 70's. Blame Bush. Blame Israel. Negotiate with terrorists. It NEVER WORKS, PEOPLE. WAKE UP. IT. NEVER. WORKS.

Sorry, this is moronic. They leave clues(arabic writing and phone numbers) as to who did the bombing? Complete amateurish stuff. And of course the bombs didn't go off of course for some unexplained reason. Maybe it is because there were no bombs to begin with. All this stuff has gone down when neo con Lieberman got his butt handed to him in this past primary season. Trying to get people to cower in fear and think Terror when the economy is a shambles, illegal immigrants are swamping the US Southwest, no new rreal good paying jobs are being created and personal and national debt is out of this world. Nice distraction.

It doesn't matter because we'll all die soon.

Stop being good Democrats and good Republicans. Start being good Americans. I was in New York City on 9/11. I supported both invasions. I voted for Bush in 2004. I took the red pill and realized we're well on our way to 1984 if we don't start asking questions and fighting the erosion of our liberties in the so-called "War on Terrorism". Any citizen who gives their liberties to a government for an indefinite war is an idiot. God save us all....
Posted by: Jeremy | Aug 19, 2006 2:49:50 AM
Come on Nico wake up. These radical Muslims want us all dead. Don't you understand what they mean when they say death to America. They want everyone on their knees faceing Mecca and if you don't bend to their will you will DIE. This is Jihad man, and weather WE want to be or not WE'RE AT WAR.
Posted by: Barry | Aug 19, 2006 6:36:53 AM
Interesting. Progressive, pro terrorist, anti Israel Germany being attacked by terrorists.
I thought the "enlightened" progressives told us that if we obey the terrorists that the terrorists would spare us and not attack us.
The democrats in the US better rethink their "kinder" war on terror, it doesn't work. Appeasement of evil never does.

Its about time y'll all (especially muslims) turn atheists. PLEASE STOP THIS CARNAGE! We already have to many thing to worry about with AIDS, bird flue, green house warming....etc. We are humans. Lets get back to humanity; build a better world!
PEACE IN THE WORLD....PLEASE

Its like they said ..these muslims
arn't stupid ..so why would they leave personel papers in with the bomb....and why should we belive all this??

I don't believe Sept 11th was an inside job rather than us failing to recognize the signs. I am christian and believe that the majority of muslims are peaceful people. Therefore using nuclear weapons to destroy them, at least for me, is out of the question. We must continue to find the evil ones and kill them on the spot. There will be innocent casualties on both sides. Them blowing up themselves in public places with the intent on killing only innocent people (due to their lack of power to face our soldiers and cowardness)and us being trigger happy and bomb happy killing innocent people. There is no quick fix. As in WWII (and I am only 30 YO) we were dragged into the fight when we wanted to turn the other cheek we were also dragged into this one. I'm not opposed to using lethal force. By all means kill all the evil fanatical muslim, christian and jewish (in which the jewish and christian fanatics never make the news)terrorist without regard for their cause. All in all we are in for a long haul and must deal with it.

Hi,
I am from Germany, German and living in Germany. It is big news here in the media. Police said today that they captured one of the two men in the city of Kiel which is in North Germany at a train station of the same city at 3 am in the morning. It is said that he was to leave the country. He is a 21 year old guy from Lebanon studying here in Germany since 2004. Investigators say that it is not the act of two people but probably of a group. Goal was to kill a lot of people.
No matter what we do or not do, terrorists remain terrorists and we need to track them down and get them into prison or get them out of the country cause all they want to do is destroy our daily life and way of living and spread fear. One thing I do not get is that if they do not like the way we live, why are they even here?
Posted by: Mark | Aug 19, 2006 7:28:49 PM
People, you're all here talking about how stupid these terrorists are, ever ask the cause of their determination to die?
What are the Americans and Europeans in mid-east doing? The Oil. Who're benefiting from the energy? That's Bush & Dick's friends and families. Look at the record earnings Exxon made every quarters.
However, religion is inducing more in the conflicts. Bush accidently revealed his thoughts after 911, referred it as a religion war!!
You deny it or not, Bush won the election because of churches, though he's dumb and clueless. You all are watching Bush is leading us into the dark age, we all are losing our freedom.
Posted by: Roy | Aug 19, 2006 11:35:22 PM
We need to be thinking proactively. We need energy independence. Then we won't need to be in the middle east. Then the terrorists won't have an ideological leg to stand on. But until then, forget about ever leaving Iraq. Our troops will continue to be sent to die for us, b/c Iraq is the main front in the battle against terrorists. Just remember two things, the strong survive and it all comes down to money.

Mixing politics with religion is a very very dangerious & deadly cocktail,Fighting terrorism it's like loosing battle against cancer it is very deep rooted.Europe & America has given all the benifits as citizens but they will never feel British or American.Looking back in history instead of worring about the communists in the 70s America should have been carefull of the new rash that would develop into deadly infection in the future and, learn from its history!!!
Posted by: Anin | Aug 21, 2006 7:59:07 AM
Um, if you're wondering why they would have left personal papers in with the bombs, perhaps because they thought the bombs would go off and destroy everything?
Posted by: J | Aug 22, 2006 8:37:25 AM
Hi,
here in Germany, this terror attack, which, *lucky us*, failed, is the biggest news on TV right now.
It's just not fair that we have to tolerate those freaks from the middle east over here without complaining.
THESE TWO MEN WHO TRYED TO KILL HUNDREDS OF innocent Germans in two trains are muslims.
But hey, if we Germans send them back home to the middle east, the world will scream: "Ha, look at you germans! It's happenting again. You racists!"
We should not allow any people from the middle east to study at out universitys or live here at all, as long as the world terror lasts.
I feel sorry for all the muslims in the world that are as innocent and peaceful as we are, cause it's not there fault that there are terrorists like those two men.
But hey: As long as I know, all big terror attacs so far have been done by muslims.
I just don't want to be scared on my way to work anymore, every time I see someone on the train who doesn't look European.
I'm sick of people saying that everone could be a terrorist and that you'll never know. So how comes I AM SCARED when I enter an airplane and there is someone sitting there who lookes like he's from Irac? I guess I'm either crazy or its true: Terror attacts are created by muslims.

Of all the comments I have read, J and Claire have the most common sense of all of them. My heart goes out to you, claire, because you and your fellow countrymen are really stuck between a rock and a hard place. The other people (not all but a vast majority) seem to think the black helicopters are right over the horizon and that Mulder and Scully are on their trail. What's really scary to me is just how gullible everybody is no matter what country they're from. The wilder the conspiracy theory the more apt it is to be believed. But it's been a real hoot reading about them.
Posted by: Jeanette | Aug 25, 2006 1:30:39 PM
well, thank you Jeanette.
I also wanted to tell all the other people who wrote comments here:
It is always easy to talk about some weird conspiracy theory of the American government when all of it seems sooo soo far away, but hey: This one guy that you see on the picture in this blog, the left one of them, was arrested a couple of days ago here in North Germany. He used to live in a dorm room which is 5 miles from my house. He went to the university I used to go to. This can not be a fake, cause it's here, it's real, and it's true.
Go write some nice novels, you guys really seem to have a wanton imagination.

if only mis-spelled missives, posted on the internet, actually helped. the only thing that will help,is a new world order with pols who care about their fellow travelers and that will never come about.
Posted by: jerry | Aug 28, 2006 5:47:36 PM
mis-spelled? I'm sorry for you, jerry, that the spelling of what I wrote is the only thing YOU noticed. Before judging, you might try to walk in my shoes first: Do you speak german, english, french and spanish? Well, if you don't, you might forgive me my spelling. Nobody's perfect.
If only people could be more tolerant and less small minded. That's even a way to stop the world terrorism.
