For those of you who kep saying that Muslim extremists hate us "just for existing" or "because of our freedom", you really aren't seeing the whole picture. First of all, I am not an apologist for terrorists, they are an abomination, but there are many people in the Middle East and in other parts of the world that have legitimate reasons to be angry at Americans. We are a superpower and we have enormous influence in the lives of people outside of our borders. We have exterted this influence through our foreign policy to get the things that Americans demand, like affordable oil. We have done this for a very long time. Many times people in the Middle East paid the price for the policies we put in place. That anger was bound to erupt. Think back to our own American Revolution. Taxation without representation was a British policy enforced on the colonies and eventually we fought back. Not all Middle Easterns are terrorists, but a lot of them have a legitimate beef with the US. Before we had wars against Saddam Hussein, he was an ally and we have a long history of supporting dictators if they were useful to us, much to the detriment of those countries and their neighbors.

Extremists do want to kill us and see us as infidels. But they don't start out that way. They start as people who feel victimized by a power larger than them. With each negative experience their sense of helplessness grows and then they cross path with people who give them a sense of power. They tell these people that they can fight back and that God (Allah) is on their side. A superpower like the US doesn't seem so invincible if you believe God is with you.

One of the best ways we can fight terrorists is to find alternative energy solutions to eliminate our dependency on Mid East oil. Because of our dependence we are forced to have an interest in this area and our need is so great that we have to wield political power. You'll notice that when there are despots in countries on the African continent we are slow to respond. When have we ever invaded an African country to free their people from an evil leader? Why would we? What asset or natural resource does any African nation have that we Americans need? They don't have any. We aren't nearly as interested in "spreading democracy" to countries that don't have anything to offer.

We need to find alternative energy sources so we can get out of the Middle East. If we weren't in the region constantly throwing our weight around, extremists would have nothing to fight against. I don't believe they care much about the "infidels" unless the "infidels" are hanging out in their back yard.

OK, I'll admit that both Bush and Clinton dropped the ball when it comes to these islam freaks. Each of them had opprotunity after opprotunity to destroy the terror networks. Clinton had the best opprotunity and subsequently fired two missles at Africa and killed a couple of camels. (I guess Clinton had cigars on his mind!) Bush #2 while he started out well with the Taliban really took his eye off the ball when he saw an opprotunity to finish what his Dad couldn't. Iraq has really diverted the war from an offensive against terror to providing stability to Iraq. The Iraq situation would have happened at some point anyway, however we should refocus our efforts on the terror networks instead of the eternal differences between the Shites and Sunnis. Assessing the current and past Presidents efforts to curb these terror networks to say the least... it has been horrible. It is easily seen that all the way back to the Carter Administration there was trouble in the Middle East starting with Iran when another islam freak took that country over and the entire region has gotten worse and has produced more islam freaks every year since. This war will not end for many more years but if there is anything good about this war is that it is keeping it out of my backyard.

Racial profiling at airports should really be one of the last levels in the line of defense in our airports as it is not highly effective. Why?

(1)al Qaeda has proven to be quite adaptable to our security protocols and have shown the ability to morph their methods to overcome them.

(2) Many of the world's Muslims are not Middle Eastern. Indonesia may be the largest Muslim nation on earth. There are also African nations that are Muslim. We'd have to profile many different races of people from many nations.

(3) Today's enemies may be Muslims, but tomorrow's may not. After all, Timothy McVeigh was not Muslim but would have been equally as dangerous in an airport.

Therefore, we have to secure against terrorist tactics (explosive detection on persons, all bags screened, etc.), while also profiling and utilizing information sharing so that the airlines have up-to-date lists of no-fly terror suspects.

Just think if we have spent even a portion of the $600 billion we've spent on a needless war in Iraq on airport security what could have been accomplished.

Nuke the whole Middle East. Then take all the oil and make gas $1.00/gallon.

All I can say is that it is history repeating itself over and over again. This country still has not learned from our history of wars and conflicts. We can't even live in peace with each other in some of our cities much less in on a world wide scale. I have a couple of comments. First, why is our government trying to push these mideast countries into Democracy/Capitolism? It seems to me that they don't desire to be free or to bring most of their people out of poverty. Second, does anyone pay attention to the bible or writings from prophets? This moment in time is termed the "end of days" and it quite obvious to me it's just around the corner. It is said we still have time to change our fate and yet we still keep taking the direction we are, because of our "Convictions." Third, do Americans have pride in their country? If so, then it's up to us to realize so do the people of Iran, Venezuela, China, Russia, North Korea, Cuba and Syria. We must not feel that we can intimidate countries into doing our will. It is not our right to impose sanctions or threaten people around the world. The only way to impress our fellow countries is to lead by example. If war is the example then we will eventually feel the "dogs of war" on our own land.

One last note, we as a country are losing our livelyhood on a daily basis. China will have economic superiority soon, mainly because of the mismanagement of businesses and funds in the U.S. by our own leaders. You know after watching that movie about 9/11, it is a shame that so many people had to die because no one was willing to give the command to go ahead and do what needed to be done in the first place. We are so worried about hurting women and children over in their countries, but it's okay if they come over here and kill almost 3,000 people and more in the United States. I have sat here and read for at least 20 minutes the comments posted. We are all different and all have our own opinions. But we are all Americans. The enemy has us quarrelling with ourselves and that is what they want. Successful campaigns can be won by attrition of the enemy from within. We seem to be more concerned with arguing politics and mistakes, instead of hunting the criminals down and leaving no chances to bare (IE - vaporize them). I am all for turning Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan into lakes or parking lots. But arguing over mistakes and differing opinions is why we havent won this war. It is why our troops (and I have family in 3 branches) die in the line of duty while we sit and argue with eachother. We have yet to come together unified with resolve. We will never win until we unite with one goal. At this point, it is not going to happen any time soon.

I will say this. For all of the "peace freaks" who choose to turn away, how will you feel when this plague comes to your front door? How will you then feel when some suicidal idiot takes away your family members and loved ones because we sat and argued with eachother and didnt stand together and deal with it? Will you then decide it is now something worth fighting for? Will you then decide that now your personal loss carries meaning? WAKE UP AMERICA!! We are the land of the free - home of the brave - and seekers of justice and equality!!! Not snivaling babies who whine about politics and corrupt politicians.. oh wait, maybe we are. And the world sits back and just watches us dig ourselves deeper and deeper into our self made hole.

We are scared of international opinion and try to do the politically correct thing. Meanwhile we are being sadly raped of our diginity and respect for what so many paid their lives for us to have and to keep. We are being whittled away to nothing over "niceties". We lost 3000 to "niceties", to political correctness. The next number of loss may be even higher. When will WE WAKE UP AMERICA? Stop arguing and find the common goal. Extremists dont care what we think. They care that we are DEAD. Not crippled, not wounded or humiliated. DEAD! How can this be made any clearer?

For the "peace freaks"... let a robber just come into your home, kill you where you stand and take all that you have and worked hard for because you want to be "nice and peaceful". This is what we are doing with terrorism. We are allowing it. We arent dealing with it affectively. Do you let a mosquito keep biting you? Sucking the blood out of you? Or do you swat it and kill it and not allow it to bite you any longer? I say there are a lot of dumb ass people walking around in America today who dont seem to mind getting bitten to death by the mosquitos.
