CIA: 5,000 Terrorists Captured or Killed
September 11, 2006 12:47 PM
More than 5,000 terrorists have been captured or killed in the five years since the 9/ll attacks, CIA director Gen. Michael Hayden said today.
Hayden's remarks were made in a videotape statement distributed to CIA employees around the world.
Hayden called the 9/ll attacks "an unforgettable blow" from a "plot we had not been able to prevent."
Since then, he said, "Al-Qa'ida's core operational leadership has been decimated, and their
successors are in hiding or on the run."
Hayden paid tribute to four CIA employees killed in Afghanistan: Mike Spann, Helge Boes, Chris Mueller and William Carlson.
Veteran CIA officers continue to praise the leadership of Gen. Hayden, who took over earlier this year from Porter Goss.
As part of his effort to highlight CIA accomplishments, his videotape statement was distributed to reporters.

Vote on whether the CIA is doing a good job in the war on terror.

So that means we are about dead even then...considering we lost an estimated 2973 on 9/11 itself and the death toll in "the war on terror" is slightly higher than 2000. But i dont think we can count the number of terrorist killed or captured in Iraq, considering iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and the only reason we are even still there is because of the civil war that is inevitably going to errupt

Brilliant response Ron Constible. I suppose that you would invite them to your house, make nice and live happily ever after!
It's obvious, you can't get your head out of the sand, get a backbone, and stand up to these butchers.
Thank GOD the CIA and this administration have the courage to do it for you and your family.

This is great...too bad ABC bowed to pressure from the left and didn't edited the miniseries on 9/11....I bet Showtime didn't edit a thing in "The Reagans"

Why doesn't Micheal Moore make a movie about this? Great job guys and keep it up.

Thanks to the brave men and women fighting this unavoidable conflict, and to the administration's leadership. Now, let's go terminate the rest of the radical Islamist terrorists.

Going out there, protecting us, stopping bad guys, in it's golden perfect form there's nothing wrong with that. It's the "At All Costs" part of the operations that are the problem. 5000?! That's it? The civilian body count of our war on whatever-the-branding-says-this-week is conservatively at 150,000, and our military/agent deathtoll is creeping closer and closer to 3000.
So militarily we don't even have a 2-to-1 ratio for them to us. And as far as "surgical" goes, we're destroying 20+ innocent lives for every 1 we kill or capture.
hardly what I'd call "winning", and hardly what I'd call "surgical".

This is why there is a nuclear option.

5,000 dead terrorists, that's a good start. Now lets kill the rest, make rubble out of the Middle East
Posted by: Andy | Sep 11, 2006 2:50:56 PM
And let us not forget the 2600+ soldiers whom we put forth to be slaughtered "over there" in Iraq so that we wouldn't be slaughtered over here, or so the story goes. The ratio of only 2 terrorists killed or captured for each American soldier killed in Iraq and Afghanistan is very, very sad.

Many heartfelt thanks to the unsung, unidentified heros and heroines that are in some of the most God forsaken places on the planet risking life and limb to keep our homeland and lifestyle safe. We should all have their backs.

5,000 down and how many millions to go?
Posted by: ted church | Sep 11, 2006 2:53:30 PM
But we're less safe today because the threat of terrorism has increased because of Bush/Cheney colossal failures and horrible foriegn and domertic policies.

Clinton let all this happen, the 9/11 Comission proved he had the data on plots to fly planes into buildings in 1993!!! His legacy is not sex in the White House; it's treason!!!!

When will the NY Times do a story on the terrorists grieving families, waiting for their Osama or Muhammed to come home after a hard day cutting off heads of infidels or setting off explosives beside a marketplace.
I'll make sure I have plenty of hankies ready when I read that story

It's great to know that there are 5,000 less terrorists out there. Unfortunately, for every one we kill or capture there are hundreds more.

GO CIA!

Thank goodness for steady patriots like General Hayden and the operators at CIA, et al.
Without them people like vance would have us appeasing terrorists, so that we don't offend their beliefs.
To vance, daily kos and others- truth is not relative! Terrorists ARE evil and this republic is not.
Thank you Gen. Hayden for helping to protect ALL of us, even vance.

This is great news and a factual report! I commend ABC for reporting facts with no spin!
Posted by: Dave | Sep 11, 2006 3:01:19 PM
I have no doubt that if Mr. Gore would have won in 2000, that death toll would probabaly be of Americans, not terrorists.
Thank you, President Bush!!!
