Former Florida Resident and al Qaeda Operative Eludes FBI's Net
September 12, 2006 2:04 PM
A one-time Florida chemistry student has the FBI worried and working overtime.
When he attended Broward Community College in Fort Lauderdale, Adnan El' Shukrijumah excelled in chemistry and computer classes.
But authorities say in 1999 he switched schools, joining al Qaeda and learning to excel in the handling of explosives and firearms at training camps in Afghanistan.
"Shukrijumah is a very dangerous individual," said Stuart McArthur, the assistant special agent in charge of the FBI's Miami office.
"El' Shukrijumah is a major concern. He's a trained al Qaeda operative," McArthur said.
The FBI says prior to 9/11 Shukrijumah secretly traveled to several U.S. cities to conduct surveillance runs, including Houston, Chicago, Washington and New York.
Justice Department officials say El' Shukrijumah was hand picked by al Qaeda leaders to team up with fellow Floridian Jose Padilla to blow up large U.S. apartment buildings using natural gas lines. Padilla was arrested in May of 2002 and is awaiting trial in Miami on terrorist related charges.
But even with a five million dollar bounty on his head, authorities say El' Shukrijumah has eluded their net.
And as the clock ticks they fear he will help guide al Qaeda to another terrorist attack somewhere inside the United States. "He has a knowledge base of the U.S. that he can share with other al Qaeda operatives," the FBI's McArthur said.

Regardless of what special interests want in any kind of legislation; ultimately it is the legislature that is responsible for the bills that are or are not passed and in what form they finally go through. Special interests are just that - interested only in their own piece of the pie - legislatures have are duty bound to the people of this country; they could and should reject the pressures of special interests. Re-election should not be their primary concern and is the only reason special interest groups succeed. Each legislature should be given a copy of "Profiles in Courage" to understand what it means to serve our country.

Is this guy a student from the Middle East? Why do we continue to allow people from the Middle East full access to our colleges, universities, and our schools. Amazing that the FBI hasn't started really looking into the student population that arrive from the Middle East and start doing regular check up on these. Another suggestion would be to not allow any middle East students into the United States to go to school.

I applaude you for the 9/11 report that lead up to that day.
I think it is time for action when a political party can threaten your FCC license because they dont like what you report. To me the Damocrats are self seeking cowards. In most cases out and out traitors to our country.

We'll catch him just like we caught Osama!....Oh wait....never mind...

It is comforting to know that we continue to train terrorists who use our schools for their training camps.
Wake up America!

Yeah, well he is a brainwashed individual who does not know how to live civil; furthermore, Bin Laden doesn't even give a darn about him. Everybody in the U.S. stay alert at all subway stations, bus stops, etc. I have asked Metro Red line workers and Sheriffs here in L.A. if there is enough money to buy bomb-material detectors, sniffing dogs, and personnel to prevent someone like El' Shukrijumah entering a station and blowing himself up. The Sheriffs and Metro worker all said, "There is not enough in the budget", gee thanks guys, I guess it's cheaper cleaning up the mess. We all have to be very careful when boarding public transportation, and entering any setting. Why doesn't he learn how to make negotiations work for him and his people and teach Al Qaeda...That there is no such thing as a holy war!!

Just imagine how many other students are attending our universities preparing for a career in Al Qaeda. My taxes at work...

Never mind Osama, what about Jimmy Hoffa? The FBI can't find a man who's been dead for 30 years, what makes anyone think they can find a live man?

I am glad that the movie Path to 9/11 showed the religious muslims that turned in the terrorists..there are good and bad in all countries regardless of religious. It also was fair in depicting how cowardly Man can be to make a decision as see in the white house scenarios..consequences indeed for us Americans for lack of a good, solid gutsy government. Wake up or we will lose all our towers.

Thanks for airing "Path to 9-11". I did not think you would dare to even hint at wrong doing by anyone in the Clinton Administration. But,to your considerable credit you seemed equally hard on both Administrations. As a "news junkie" of long standing I remember pre 9-11 events, 9-11 events, and post 9-11 events vividly. I have problems with your take on those events but by and large I think you were reasonably fair. The actor picked to play Dick Chaney suggested that you don't know the man at all.

Why dont we wake up and smell the coffee, we have just gotten too politically correct and afraid to offend anyone, kick them all out of the country, where else can you go to school and then go back a kill the people who gave you the education.

No offense, but the ignorance displayed by some of these posters is breathtaking. Ban students from the middle east from colleges? Why not just go the extra mile and create concentration camps for dark skinned people?
"Your tax dollars"? Do you have any idea how much foreign students pay to go to a college in the US?
It's ok to rely on the middle east for cheap oil, but it's not ok for them to get a decent education? I understand your government is doing everything it can to make you paranoid, but let's not turn the clock back 100 years in the interests of "security".

now I know why ABC would air such lies as the 9/11 farce. it's false and despicable. what a shame that disney/abc would so violate their audience by advertising the movie as based on the 9/11 reports.
ABC is the Pravda of the west.

Bush was responsible for the safety and lives of these 9/11 casualties. Bush FAILED. (If he failed on purpose to create a Neocon "Pearl Harbor", I wish I knew.)
9/11 is the 'anniversary' of Bush's Failure as much as it is the day of remembrance for the dead of 9/11.
If this isn't acknowledged upfront, then all Rove's doublespeak, diversionary tactics, and "conditioned response signals" (telling us to be as sad and frightened as we were when it happened) succeed.
The funeral dirge and fear-mongering of 9/11 must not be allowed to drown out the five-year-old questions and the utter truth that THIS COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED BUT BUSH IGNORED THE WARNINGS.

This guy is definitely a bad apple. He may be disguised as a Muslim woman living in W. VA right now for all we know.

son..... I can't even pronounce his last name let alone get it out in a timely fashion to even say "El,... there he goes".
...he's probably waiting to meet with good ol' Osma been bloggin' .
...be with you in a minute "El" soon as I finish up this call with Brian.

I believe this is the same guy we were looking for in S. Tampa a couple years ago. MacDill AFB, Cen Com, is located just a few miles south. Let's not drop the ball on potential incursions. And, their recruiting could transition to other than middle eastern backgrounds with Benedict Arnold in their midst.

WHen I was watching the movie the Path to 9-11, I remembered my first thought when I thought the towers burning "Where is the CIA and the FBI? Didn't they know about this?" I made an irritated comment at work while we were all watching about how all these "big guys" have failed us. Someone said it was not so. Well, the 9-11 Commission just confirmed that.
