No FBI Investigation Into U.S. Embassy Attack in Syria
September 15, 2006 6:47 PM
After the smoke cleared from Tuesday's terrorist attack on the U.S. Embassy in Damascus, Syria, the charred shell of one exploded vehicle used by the attackers lay near the Embassy entrance alongside the bodies of three attackers killed by Syrian forces responding to the assault, U.S. officials told ABC News. At another entrance to the embassy, the site of the second attack, another attacker had been shot in the leg by Syrian forces and taken into custody alive.
But within 90 minutes of the attack, U.S. officials report that Syrian authorities had cleared the crime scene of debris, including the destroyed vehicle and any forensic evidence which could have been used in an investigation. The Syrians also removed the bodies of the three attackers killed by security forces during the attack. All of this before any proper investigation could be conducted by the FBI into the details of the attack.
The FBI, which usually sends a team of investigators to the crime scene whenever US facilities are attacked, appears not have not done so this time. According to FBI Special Agent Richard Kolko: "The FBI had sent an assistant legal attaché to Damascus to advise the U.S. Embassy. This Agent has departed Syria. No other personnel were sent or requested." Kolko deferred to the State Department for additional information.
"The Syrians are leading the investigation and the RSO (Regional Security Officer) is coordinating with the Syrians," said a State Department official on Friday, declining to elaborate on the level of cooperation between Syrian and US officials or if the investigation has yielded any new information.

I find this to be very interesting. Can only wonder if Syria might have "staged" this event and then made certain that the FBI would not be able to learn any valuable forensic evidence to trace the source of the attacks. No source, no motive. No motive, no idea as to whom the attackers might have links to. A real question here of "cooperation" where Syria has a mutual animosity with the U.S. Someone needs to ask some questions.

I think a better question might be with such timing and world events, does America actually benefit from this?

Is Asbestos suggesting America (working with or without Syrian help) staged an attack against its own embassy? The evidence and lack of opportunity alone make this unlikely. World events are shining too bright a light on Syria these days. Their support of Hizb"Allah, the UN investigation of the Harari murder, their green light to hit squads in Lebanon to resume their terrorism and Syrian cooperation with NK and Iran to develop missiles and WMD makes Syria far more likely to stage something. They may well be trying to show the West that they can be a "moderate" regime that protects even the US embassy, even if they are the terrorist convention capital of the Middle East.
Letting in the FBI would reverse Syrian non-cooperation with which they continue to defy the UN’s investigation. I suggest Asbestos check out the counterterrorism blog for more information on this topic rather than suggest more "We staged 9/11" irrationality. Isn't this just more misinformation (disinformation) intended to disrupt the discourse which in this case reveals more Syrian (Fascist duplicity)? If the Syrians are that calculating maybe we shouldn’t trust them. Funny how the left claims the right does this polarizing all the time. Saying we gained from the Syrian/extremist attack is like saying Hizb"allah gained by attacking Israel (which some claim was an Israeli-US conspiracy). While justice is blind, reason is not. Big difference.

Sounds like another staged event with links to the torturous whitehouse and the dictator bush

another staged event is right !! glad there are other true patriots out there whose minds haven't been turned to mush by the media inc. i wish more knew what is really going on - we'd have a revolution in this country instead of another planned staged "attack" to be used as a another pretext for more war. God help us.

Only the US could pull off such an attack. The area is heavily guarded by the Syrians as the royal palace is in the neighborhood. The truth always comes out....maybe years later, but it will happen....truth will oust.....
