FBI: Two U.S. Residents Help Run al Qaeda
September 07, 2006 12:18 PM
Two men who grew up in the U.S. are now believed to be in the top ranks of al Qaeda, operating out of Pakistan.
U.S. officials say the alleged turncoats, from California and Florida, work closely with al Qaeda's No. 2 leader, Ayman al Zawahiri, in planning attacks on their home country.
FBI officials identify the men Adam Gadahn of Orange County, Calif., and Adnan Shukrijumah of Broward County, Fla.
Gadahn, a one-time heavy metal music fan, has been seen frequently on al Qaeda video tapes, most recently last weekend.
In the most recent tape, Gadahn spoke of Americans as drivers of gas guzzling cars with cell phones and college diplomas.
"I can't forget the day when as I was praying a prescribed prayer with one of the brothers in a shopping center parking lot in suburban America, a man sped by in his sports utility vehicle shouting from his open window, 'Worship Jesus, Your Lord,'" Gadahn said as he invited others to convert to Islam.
The FBI has a $5 million reward for the second American al Qaeda, Shukrijumah, a one-time student at Broward Community College.
Shukrijumah is suspected to have had contacts with 9/ll hijack leader Mohammed Atta before leaving the United States shortly before the attacks.
FBI officials say Shukrijumah traveled to Houston, Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C., to spot potential targets.
Officials say Shukrijumah has been in Pakistan since March 2004 and works with his fellow American, Gadahn, in producing and distributing al Qaeda videos.
In the effort to find Shukrijumah, the U.S. has distributed match books in Pakistan with his picture and details of how to collect the $5 million reward.
Virtually every one of the FBI's 56 field offices are involved in the hunt, according to Stuart McArthur, the assistant Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Miami field office, who heads up the bureau's hunt for Shukrijumah.
"Shukrijumah is a dangerous individual. He's a trained al Qaeda operative. He's received explosives and fire arms training," said McArthur. "He poses a danger to the U.S. in that he spent a considerable amount of time here and is very familiar with our customs."

Isn't it strange how many Americans have no trouble becoming Al Qaeda leaders but supposedly the CIA was unable to infiltrate the group because
Al Qaeda supposedly would not trust Americans and would assume them to be CIA agents. It makes you wonder if the CIA even tried to infiltrate Al Qaeda at all.

Is that reward for "Dead or Alive"? If not it should be.

I'm expecting more news on terrorism in the next few months before the elections to help the Republicans.
I imagine they'll try to drag this out as long as possible to win elections.

I am spending the next two days emailing my 3,000 customers to not watch the docu drama 911 on ABC. Only an anti american company would use this momment in our nations history to make money. Further we are asking our customers to contact your sponsors with our complete disgust. Do not buy anything advertized on ABC.
Does Al Quieda pay you to attack the USA. You are clearly encouraging our enemies.
My son is in Iraq defending trash like ABC.
Posted by: Randy Ericson | Sep 7, 2006 2:08:11 PM
I heard that ABC was broadcasting a basis and defamatory mini series on the Clinton presidency and his aides about there actions prior to 9-11. This during the anniversary of 9 11. Is this what ABC wishes to do cause more bias, distorted reporting and pass that off as true reporting among the American people. Let's get real here!!!!
You are getting as bad as the FOX network!!!!

These two and other Americans like them, should be arrested, tried and then executed for treason.
Posted by: Bill | Sep 7, 2006 2:32:00 PM
I beg these murdering thugs would have thought that we (weak-minded Americans) would have stopped digging through rat tunnels looking for them by now. All this story does is confirm the fact that just because you are born on American soil does not make you an American. Hey Adam and Adnan, say hi to Hitler when you get to hell.
Posted by: David Maheu | Sep 7, 2006 3:17:32 PM
Are these men American citizens or are they illegals either way they should be hung and left to rot in public as traitors.
Posted by: Kay Mills | Sep 7, 2006 3:37:57 PM
These people committed treason and should be tried as traitors; just like the Rosenbergs.
Like it or not these people are plotting our demise and will stop at nothing. They use mosques to preach hate and the distruction of America and our way of life. They would not hesitate to kill us and our children,as they did on 911.
These Islamic Facist terrorist are among us, not 4000 miles away as our enemies were in WWII.
Wake up America before it is too late.

It's obvious to me that the Bush administration is out in full swing, fear mongering before the coming elections. It worked before so they hope it will work again to get them elected.
Rumsfeld's allusion to fascism should turn his face toward the Republican party to see what fascism really look like. That old expression "when you point a finger, four fingers point towards yourself," applies here in spades.

It's part of history now, tragic as it was,it is no different than any of the other terrible events in our world history.Programs such as these open our eyes to the possibilties of what we are facing now in our world. It's time we deal with it and not close our eyes.

Isn't there something called the Freedom of Speech???? ABC can air what they want, so long as it doesn't offend the FCC ... you might not agree on what's being shown - so if you don't like what's on, change the channel, or better yet, read a book, or go outside and get some exercise you fat Americans!
Posted by: Hag | Sep 7, 2006 3:50:30 PM
Here is my opinion....I totally blame Bush for the situation we are in.
If we had gone just into Afganistan and finished the job there by rooting out all of Al Queda including putting military pressure on Pakistan and cleaning up all of the terrorists there we would not be having the discussion of future attacks and Americans turning on their country...
Instead Bush led us into Iraq and now we are stuck in a VietNam type war and meanwhile the Taliban is regaining a foot hold in Afganistan.
I think Bush is the worst president I have ever seen and he continues to uphold his decisions and play the victim.

ABC....you must pull the movie "Path to 9/11"... I am a faithful ABC watcher. But, I am also a democrat and this is full of Republican bias, misleading information and you are condoning it by airing this movie. Enough is enough already. Note that 9/11 occurred on Bush's watch, not Clinton's. And we could of gotton ride of Sadamm Hussein in the first gulf war, when the first George Bush was president. FBI and CIA new where he was... and let him go. the war we are fighting now (IRAQ) could have been prevented had we acted then.

Why can they catch this man?
They are still trying to find out where he is, possible right under their noise.

I'm looking forward to watching ABC'S docudrama on sunday and monday i was really disappointed in the first WTC attack when the clintin Administration ignore the fact that the terrorist were here to do us harm. He was moore interested in his own personnal affairs then he was protecting the arerican people. He could had then gone after UBL but choose instead to let somebody woory about. If ABC shows this in it's entirely it should boost ABC ratings for shoeing the american people what really happened with the clinton Administration. sam Sanchez

These guys are even less of a threat than Osama. The only real reason for the FBI to go after them is to show all the peasants it doesn't pay to despise the political class.
Want something to worry about? Worry about the "trained al-Qaeda or Hizbullah operatives who have been living in the U.S., running convenience stores, for the last 15 years.
That's a REAL worry. These guys aren't.

Posted by: salvy | Sep 7, 2006 4:43:49 PM
I object to the miniseries you plan to show Sept. 10 and 11 that depicts what "happened" to cause the terrible events on 9/11. Such a "docu-drama" will be beleieved by many to be true, and puts words into the mouths of people who didn't utter them. Is ABC trying to blame people in the Clinton Administration for what happened on 9/11? The blame should be on the terrorists and their extreme ideology.
Posted by: Mary | Sep 7, 2006 4:53:04 PM
All of you people blaming 9/11 on George Bush need to get a clue. If Clinton had done the job when he was president and taken care of these terrorists when he had the chance most of this would not be going on right now. Clinton needed to have guts which he didn't. Heck, he couldn't even control himself let alone take control of protecting the country during his two terms.
Posted by: SAM | Sep 7, 2006 4:53:26 PM
And you want to take OUR guns from US. Instead of reliving 9-11 through a half-ass documentary in which most detail are changed for TV ratings, this is what you should have on the screen for the hour or so this program runs.
"al-Qaeda their out there and their trying to kill you"
Posted by: Frank | Sep 7, 2006 5:10:11 PM
Guys, the real reason all of this is happening is because the world-wide bully, America, has been bullying other countries. Just look at our governments history and you will see just how much we have been irritating the people of the middle east. We have no business being there, forcing them into a way of life that is not of their own personal choosing. Isn't America supposed to stand up AGAINST actions like that? Americans are being hypocrites. We as Americans would not put up with it and would indeed resort to the very same terrorist activities that the people of the middle east are using. Just look at our own history and how our country started. We were terrorists! Finally Brittain gave up and went home. If you want to know basically what Bush and past American politicians have done, imagine this: Bush gathers the American people in a field, around an active bee hive. He then takes out a baseball bat and attacks the hive. He runs, but leaves the American people standing there wondering what just happened. Bush is an idiot, following in the footsteps of many other idiots before him. If America and its allies wants to end the terrorism against them, then walk away from the bee hive and just leave them alone. That is all they want. America was created by people trying to escape religious persecution. So why on earth are the American people trying to force other people of different faiths to join their Christian ranks? Americans have become fat, lazy and overly religious to the point of fanatasism. They forget that here in America, we are promised the freedom from religious persecution. Yet, that is exactly what people get when they live here or visit here. That is what they get when American missionaries travel to other countries. They force people to believe as they do. If they refuse, then America beats them up for their refusal. America is far from innocent here. Get over the American pride and see what we are really doing to other people. Then, and only then will you understand why millions of people around the world hate the Americans. This number increases on a regular basis. Why? Because America is fooling itself and is hurting everyone else. Just like a typical school yard bully.
Posted by: Thorn3 | Sep 7, 2006 5:54:15 PM
OK Sheila, the planning of the WTC attach went on for 5 to 10 years before the event. What about the other 2 Presidents? I think the Clinton administration was asleep at the switch.
Posted by: Ben Marbury | Sep 7, 2006 5:59:14 PM
Those left-wing americans calling Bush stupid, fool, ignorant and the "Bush Haters" are people who have nothing to offer but a twisted belief that the democrats can do a better job than Bush regarding the war on teror. I don't even want to imagine what our country would be like if the democrats were in control during these times.

How many other fantical Muslims are there living in the US!
We should strip these extremists of their US citizenship and send them packing back to Arabia.

If "Slick Willie" was keeping his focus on USB and not on chasing interns we might not have had 911. Let ABC show it, it is still a free country.

I don't think half of these people making comments here have a clue. Movies - They make millions and you would probably be surprised how many pockets are getting lined. Just like Viet Nam - Not even close. Yes we have lost needless lives, but nothing like Viet Nam. You can walk down any street in America and possibly be very close to people that support terrorism. Most of them, like these two, have lived right along side Americans for years. Just because they might be Iraquies, Asian, Chinese, etc. doesn't mean that just they are suspect. Most people worship the almighty dollar and would do about anything for it. Enough - Take a look around, do you really know your neighbor? The way we here in America have always been there for every country and nationality there is with a helping hand, free housing, medical, cash etc., can we really blame anyone but ourselves?
Posted by: Ron | Sep 8, 2006 6:31:50 AM
On the comment about boycotting ABC, good idea; we do not need to be reminded of how people died because some fool doesnt like America. On the comment about being born an American, I agree, Imigrants who are naturalized as Americans have to know so much and prove that they are American before Naturalization, and the sad part, is that they can lose it anytime. I think they naturalized folks are more American, they choose it conciously. Those who choose Al Qaeda, they do so conciously as well. As Americans we respect that choice because we believe in freedom. Sad that our beliefs in freedom is what is being abused. On the comment on Afganistan, perhaps you need to go to the Afgan, we are currently taking applications ARMY, NAVY, MARINES. Put your money where your mouth is. On the comment of World Wide Bully...to maintain our lifestyle, our cost of living, and our freedom, we need to step on a few toes. Diplomacy is good, but sometimes when you sleep with the wrong type, you end up with regrets later..America does wht American has to do. If you want to change that, VOTE, elections are coming up.

Enough is enough! Stop with anti-American rhetoric and focus on the real problem. It is the Islam radicals and terrorists that are the real problem. As a country we should be united in our efforts to rid the world of these people who don't value life and don't have the courage to show themselves. Why is it that these people must hide? The answer is pure and simple, should they truly decide to show themselves they would meet the same fate as the Hitlers, Mussolinis and the Husseins that have gone before them. As for ABC, I am dissapointed in the network for the simple reason that it seems that they are trying to profit from a tragedy and that is always disapointing. I am bi-partisan voter and I'm tired of the infighting that both parties constantly participate in. We need to focus on what it best for the overall good of the country, and not what benefits this or that party. Best to our troops and their families and stay strong America. Never forget 9/11!!!
Posted by: J.Scher | Sep 8, 2006 9:52:38 AM
Isn't it interesting how the pro-Clintonites see anything negative about Clinton as "bashing"? Wasn't he the same President who did NOTHING after the U. S. Cole was hit? And don't try to say that the planning for 9-11 was done only after Bush was elected. Clinton must shoulder much of the blame for intelligence failures.
Posted by: ChiefBill | Sep 8, 2006 9:58:33 AM
There are a lot more al Quaeda sympathizers in these mosques right near us. I have heard so much anti american talk from some of the people going to these mosques that I wonder why those individuals are here at all.
Posted by: John | Sep 8, 2006 10:18:05 AM
This is why our country should use profiling to catch people that do crimes we Americans should throw these people out of our country. If these men are like that so are there families!!!!! Any American that puts another country name in front of America is not truly American..... And if you'll notice those are the ones that want to change America and its heritage. We should do like America did when Japan attacked us round up all desendance from the country's involved in terror and put them in consentration camps. We did people from Japan after Pearl Horbor.
Posted by: Ricky | Sep 8, 2006 10:24:26 AM
You know part of the big problem...is instead to be sending abroad all these bad signals we should be united no matter what. Starting with the politicians and ending with the rest of the people. Is so embarrasing reading and listen all these negagive talks. We as Americans we should stop pointing fingers and have more respect for the people that are defending our contry. Stop blaming George Bush for everything is happeing why you don't wake up and stop nagging about it. With all these blaming to our government you make the enemy stronger. Then in the future don't hope any respect from them what so ever.

Wake up people. Clinton had nothing to do with 911. Clinton had nothing to do with Iraq. Iraq had nothing to do with 911.

I ahve few word to say. I am not born and raised in USA. But still I love USA and my country - India.
Lets look at the root cause of the people like the two in question turn agianst their own country and countrymen.
I do not think that greed of money may be involved but the deep rooted hatred about the governmrnt in genral must be the root cause.
FBI and CIA should have some kind of system to filter these kind of individuals.
Posted by: Kishore K. Chokshi | Sep 8, 2006 12:58:21 PM
Is deep rooted hate motovated by the government? I would say not! These men as mean in other countries seek their selfish goals. If it is not money, then fame or spiritual notice. The simple truth is a bad child hood, leads to criminal adult hood in this case. People must put care and compassion for others first, for it is all that separates us from our heathenistic past. As in 9-11 thoughs who stepped up and helped while facing personal lose are the true winners.

This movie isn't as fictious as you may think. Ok, Albright said she wasn't the one to make the phone call...but the phone call was made. Do you think the caller will fess up? So they made it her in the movie, they can change it to a voice on the end of the phone and leave it a mistery as to who made the call.
Mike was on the right track about the convience stores. Not only did Johnson open up the flood gates letting in foriegners who had no time to assimalate but they bought up all the mom and pop stores and gas stations with 7 year tax exemptions and send the money home to "the family". I wish I could have had a exemption like that. I'd have started my own business.
I wish all of you would get so upset about all the trash our young people are being exposed to on T.V. that you think has no impact. Each generation gets a little more anestisized. We are consuming ourselves and leading to our own eventual demise with all the redefining of "freedom's and right's". With all the "what offends one person may not offend another" There is no such thing as common decency anymore. There is very little respect of privicy and people think nothing of lying.
Posted by: Evelyn Cobb | Sep 8, 2006 2:38:33 PM
The point of the matter is that both Bush and Clinton refused to go after Bin Laden. Why?
Because Bin Laden is a CIA/Department of defense asset. Look at where he was at during the war in Yugoslavia. Do a search on google.
Look up CIA assest in any search, and you will begin to a long list of well known crimminals which the CIA refuses to go after at the expense of utilizing them for more "valuable" actions.
Saddam Hussein was put into power by U.S. foreign policy to keep Iran and the Soviets in check. However, it seems like mainstream politics/media seem to forget the past 30 years. Like anything before Ronald Reagan, or more likely the first George Bush, didn't happen!! Where do you think Al-Qaeda and all of it's cell training tactics came from? From CIA/black ops intelligenece sources.
It is no lie that numerous goverments in the world still utilze, when needed, mercenaries and warlords. So why is it so odd to suggest that the U.S. doesn't do the same thing? Maybe if ABC actually spent time on a little history and good research instead of edutainment, or ignore-tainment, then the world would be a safer place.
Posted by: anon | Sep 9, 2006 11:41:15 AM
Forget about Bush's approval rating. I'm sorry to report that all of the latest polls show that the national news media now has the lowest approval rating among all Americans in its entire history. 87% disapprove. Nobody, Republican or Democrat, likes or believes any of it.

I watched this two-night event on 9-11 and thought it was really compelling. But, I couldn't see any advertisers to boycott- it seems to have been commercial free.
I think we need to postpone 2008 presidential elections and leave George W. Bush in until he completes the war on terror. No one else seems to have the stomach for it.
