Wesley_snipes_nrThe star of the "Blade" trilogy and "U.S. Marshals" has been indicted for tax fraud and failure to file income tax returns. Wesley Snipes could face up to 10 years in prison.

The indictment states that Snipes and his co-defendants "did attempt through deceit, craft, trickery, and dishonest means" to make it appear that Snipes had no liability for federal income taxes when in fact he did owe money to the IRS. Snipes allegedly failed to file proper income tax returns from 1999 through 2004.

"Our system of government depends on citizens paying their fair share of taxes," said U.S. Attorney Paul Perez. "Those who intentionally and unlawfully harass the IRS through deceit, trickery and fraud undermine the collection of revenue that is vital to every aspect of the operation of our government, including defense, the war of terror, health care, law enforcement and education."

A New York native, Snipes has starred in many hit movies, including "White Men Can't Jump," "New Jack City" and "Blade." He reportedly earned in the $10 million range for two of his more recent films, "Blade: Trinity" and "Murder at 1600."

I hope he owes enough to justify the cost of investigating him!

I remember many years ago, I had joined the Peace Corps and made so little that I did not even have to file a tax return. The IRS sent two agents to my parents' house trying to find out why I had not filed. Talk about a waste of taxpayers' money!

I hope Wesley gets to close the cell door on the crook who talked him into the fraud.

entertainers are important in this modern day media driven society, so they cannot simply be locked away. However he is a millionaire, and millionaires have no right nor reason to avoid taxes. and its not just for themselves, either; it's for us everyday joes who ARENT millionaires, for those of us who pay taxes and are still poor. He should have to just pay back all the money he owes. They can add it up, put him on a plan or something, but the debt should be paid. And if he ends up in jail then in my mind that would be proof that the government was harboring a personal agenda against him.
