Clean Clothes, Dirty Money

Attorney Stephen J. Plowman pleaded guilty today to charges that he tried to launder more than $100,000 in drug money through a business he set up in Seattle, the Queen Anne Maytag Laundry.
According to the plea agreement, the cash to purchase the laundromat came from a client of Plowman's, a convicted cocaine trafficker named Carlos Ford.
Prosecutors say Plowman stored the money in a safe and did not report it to the IRS, as required for cash payments over $10,000.
In the plea agreement, Plowman admitted his failure to file the report was "part of a pattern of unlawful conduct."
He could face up to ten years in prison, but under federal sentencing guidelines is expected to get between 18 and 24 months when he's sentenced in January.
