FBI Contacting Pages; Evidence Foley Solicited Sex
October 03, 2006 6:51 PM
FBI agents have begun to contact former congressional pages in the growing investigation of disgraced former Congressman Mark Foley, according to federal law enforcement officials.
At least one former page has reportedly offered evidence that Foley sought to solicit sex during instant message exchanges over the Internet.
The "preliminary investigation" appears to be heading towards a full field investigation, according to one official.
THE BLOTTER RECOMMENDS
Officials say Foley's extensive knowledge of child exploitation laws may have helped guide him as to how far he could go without violating the law.
Instant messages obtained by ABC News indicated Foley met or arranged to meet young men under the age of 18 who had been pages.
Despite the fact that Foley's attorney has said Foley admits to sending the "totally inappropriate" e-mails and IMs, the FBI has still not seized his computer and hard drive.
"Mark has absolutely agreed on his own and with our counsel not to do anything with any computer, not to delete any messages, not to obliterate or attempt to obliterate any IMs, e-mails, Internet communications," said Roth.
The FBI confirmed today that it has not drawn up a search warrant for the equipment because the investigation is still preliminary, and they are still examining the messages they've obtained so far.

I dont think he did it at all can we really be positive that he wrote those messages no we cant therefore he's innocent until proven guilty and he is a republican so i dont see it happening also the latest is that his lawyer is saying that Foley was Molested as a child by a catholic priest.

Whatever is done now, it may be too little too late. We may only be seeing the tip of the iceberg. Republicans calling for investigation NOW?? It's a bit like allowing the fox to guard the hen house, isn't it? The important thing here is the fact that these children went to Washington with ideals about our governing system. What some got was disillusionment, confusion and just plain fear. It's another case of an authority figure taking advantage of his position. If Mr. Foley were abused as a teenager, I would be inclined to think that he would not condone such actions, but go in exactly the opposite direction. It's all disgusting to me. Being a gay man does not excuse what he has done. We've not heard all of this yet. I'm sure there's more to come, truth or not.

Oh, lay off the gay lawmaker. He's just another DOM (dirty old man) in the "pursuit of his happiness."

My brother is doing 5 years in jail for solicitation of a prostitute and Foley is still running around?? The first thing the police did was take my brothers computer. To this day, after admitting there was nothing on it, the police are still holding the computer for "evidence". At least my brother could admit he was just horny. I am sick of the political spin the both political parties are putting on this. I have long believed that this country needs new political parties and leaders who put the American people first. The asses and elephants are only worried about pointing out the flaws and screw-ups of the other party. They need to realize that the American people they represent can see that their job cannot be done with everyone playing the blame game.

Don't assume that Republicans are looking the other way. Yes, often the representatives of the party are often corrupt, as is the case of the government as a whole. Most Republicans feel that Foley's actions are represhensible and appaling, and he should be judged just as any other that has commited this crime.

It's absurd that people blame this on the Republican Party. There are Democrats who do the same thing. Just admit it, they're ALL corrupt.

Wow! Unbelievable how all the Dems and their supporters are going off the deep end over emails with a young federal employee but yet when the President (Clinton) admitted to having oral sex with a young federal employee they all said "Oh, that's not so bad!"

Why does this have to be a partisan issue? I seems that when a member of one party screws up, the entire other side jumps up and down but when the shoe is on the other foot, they keep quiet. All of us have sinned. These sins are unquestionably horrible but let's maintain some semblance of humanity instead of acting like the nah, nah, nah children that the other party is acting like right now.

People who say that Foley's activities were allowed to continue because he is a Republican are ignorant. There are bad seeds in both party lines, history demonstrates this. If people would stop referencing the politics behind this and see it for what it is - a child predator using his influence to fullfill his disgusting desires, then things on the Hill would get fixed.
If Hastert new about this as other lawmakers have claimed, then he's just as guilty as Foley, if not more. The issue isn't about which party the sleeze bag belongs to, it is about reforming laws to protect our children. If congress doesn't understand this then vote each and everyone out who knew about Foley The Pig - I don't care if they are Republican or Democratic or Independent. For lawmakers, lobbiest, the media and anyone else who turns this into a political issue, then I say to you - get in line with the Pigs who use issues like this to better their political cause.

Why is it when Clinton "was accussed" of having- whatever it was he did with Monica- everybody wanted him impeached. But with Foley, they're relying "on his word" that he won't tamper with his computers? What happen to those guys on the ABC20/20 sting should be hapening to Foley. The sting had an adult pretending to be a child- Foley solicited an ACTUAL CHILD, even if he was 16 or 17 years old. Read his IM that's posted on ABCNews. I don't IM my husband like that, and we've been married for 12 years!

We need to remember that there is a world of difference between being gay and being a pedophile. Foley is obviously a pedophile, not gay. His lawyer has said that Foley is gay, and that his "outing" is part of his therapy. This is an insult to gay and lesbian people everywhere. I have quite a few gay and lesbian friends (I am straight) , and believe me, they are just as appalled and disgusted by Foley's behavior as everyone else. If he had solicited sex from the underage female pages, we wouldn't hear anyone calling him a heteroxexual!
Let's be clear about another thing: if this were ANYONE ELSE besides a Republican congressman, his computer would have been seized as evidence the next day after it bacame known. They don't need to investigate further, he has admitted THROUGH HIS LAWYER that he sent the emails. They could have had a warrant in one hour, but they didn't even need that. The computer and his office are both government property. They don't need a warrant to seize government property. THis whole mess smells to high heaven. I'm an independant who has voted republican on the national level for the past 20 years. NO MORE!

Mark Foley is a sick, depraved, sociopathic man. His narcissist behavior also has him passing the blame claiming he was abused when he was a child. No evidence of that yet but it's absolutely no excuse! In addition, Dennis Hastert did't do anything about it most likely to save a seat! Shame! Shame! These seats are supposed to be held to the HIGHEST standards and obviously Dennis is not qualified. Dennis Hastert is behaving even more vile by refusing to resign. Shame! Shame! Preying on underage kids is absolutely sick no matter if you are the person doing it or you are the person who knows about and does nothing to stop it. ZERO TOLERANCE! Get out! I'm am furious about this and absolutely disgusted with the Republican's who are siding with them. If anyone else knew about this, they need to get out too. I can't wait until the elections! Good riddens.

I personnally would have loved to see Foley on 'To Catch a Predator'. I'm non partisan myself, so the public humiliation of any politician, Republican or Democrat, is amusing. It's no wonder he lobbied so hard for child exploitation; guilty conscience.

I don't see ABC following up on this story. Tom Reynolds whose chief of staff worked for Foley and went to his aid had a presser yesterday in which he refuses to discuss what Alexander told him or he told Hastert because of membership privilege. He claimed he took what he knew to his supervisor as if one of the most powerful men in the Congress was little more than some poor joe working in a factory. Something happened to make Alexander approach Reynolds - what was it? And what is Alexander saying? Is there no followup on the cover up?

It is still amazing to me that not one word is being said on the raido or tv or in print that I am aware of from Focus on the Family and other Christian conservative foundations, church's and organizations. It is very sad and shameful that these institutions will be seen as one sided and not portraying the true message of the Gospel. Yes there is forgiveness, but as they say and have said, there is a price to pay for your sins.
Posted by: Jake | Oct 4, 2006 9:20:29 AM
perhaps they have not consifcated his computer and DID Jefferson's because Jefferson did not resign and Foley did. They can always get it.
Posted by: wallabbie | Oct 4, 2006 9:23:46 AM
If Foley is so certain he never had personal sexual contact with young boys, then he should insist the FBI take his computers, calendars, etc. immediately (not wait for them to get a court order).
But I believe that will happen about as much as I believe alcoholism caused him to write the messages/e-mails!

How can anyone blame the Democrats for the Foley scandal? Its like holding neighbors responsible for abuse in the house next door. Hasert claims he and the GOP leadership were completely duped by Foley, and yet asserts that the Democrats knew and were waiting for the right time to speak up. It is as if he is saying the GOP is 'slower' than the evil Democrats.

"Asked to resign"? Foley was "Asked to resign?"
He should be snatched up by his collar, dragged to the front doors of the capitol building and kicked in his rear down the capital building stairs, and all of his personal belongings thrown behind him. My God! Child molesters are running this country!

What's really unbelievable is self-styled moralists Hastert and admitted doctor-shopping drug addict Rush Limbaugh desperately defending the enabling of the sexual predatory behavior that Foley was charged with regulating. The current Republican pattern, from the President down, of refusing to take responsibility for mistakes and mis-steps that are killing people, destabilizing the entire Middle East and corrupting government at all levels (even Secretary Rice has no knowledge of being warned by the CIA of 9/11 on 7/10) has surely reached the breaking point. Even the most diehard Republicans must be ashamed of their representatives wanton desire for power at all costs. Democratic criticism of this destructon of our governance is pointless - nobody on the Republican side cares what Democrats have to say. Only fellow Republicans can tell these guys to wise up. Please, Republicans, do it.
