"I smashed his head into the cell door.": New Reports of Abuse at Guantanamo Bay
October 12, 2006 3:16 PM
A Marine Corps sergeant is going public with new charges of abuse at the Guantanamo Bay detention center.
The sergeant visited the base in late September and tells ABC News she was "shocked" to hear several guards from different parts of the camp speak openly of mistreating prisoners.
One said, "I took the detainee by the head and smashed his head into the cell door," she tells ABC News. Another "was telling his buddy, 'Yeah, this one detainee, you know, really pissed me off, irritated me. So I just, you know, punched him in the face.'"
See the full report on what she says she heard and saw at Guantanamo Bay -- and what the Pentagon is doing about it -- tonight on World News with Charles Gibson.

The inmates at Gitmo are the worst of the worst. Who cares if they get punched in the face or their head slammed into bars of their cells? Obviously they probably did much worse to other people BEFORE they were confined. Eye for an eye, no?

This is bad. A female Marine with rank, ratting out other Marines! Pathetic!

Why is it that she cares so much? Maybe she'd have a different perspective if she actually had to be there with the prisoners.

Why should I care about these guys at Gitmo? Basketball season is about to start....

Do unto others...We should be ashamed. Prisoners should be allowed to have lawyers and trials. They should be treated with some human dignity.

still better than getting your head chopped off for the whole world to see.

It's amazing to me that all of these military people are going to the news media instead of their chain of command. What is it that they hope to gain from circumventing the system? If this persons peers knew she was a rat, is it possible they baited her? A mute point seeing as how everyone now knows. Ret Mil

Hello? It's called a war. You make a big deal about this, as if terrorists beheading prisoners doesn't matter and who knows what else?

This woman should be court martialed. This is clearly agaist the UCMJ. There is a chain of command. She should have used it. She is not a patriot she is a criminal for doing this and ABC should be ashamed.

Are we forgetting these people are in the detention centers for a reason, who care if they are getting abused while in custody, they are killing others and threating the U.S.A.

I think that this is discusting! These types of things should not be done or wished upon onto anyone. Yeah, they have done something wrong but they are serving their time. This is not fair and it gives the Guantanamo Bay detention center a bad reputation.

I just watched the ABC report on this. This marine is doing her duty. I am a Vietnam veteran who served honorably. The comment by Ray here is asinine. The report showed the marine's Commanding Officer and he stated he encouraged her to file this report. There was no breach of chain of command. I suspect that some who are calling this honorable young woman a traitor have no idea what integrity and honor are. PEACE - BRING THE TROOPS HOME

We have seen hundreds of prisoners released after years at Gitmo because it has been determined that they were caught up in a sweep without actually having any connection to the enemy. So how can you say that they're all dangerous and deserve to be abused?
Innocent until proven guilty is still the law of civilized nations. Bush uses Gitmo to circumvent the law.

Its very interesting reading the views posted here - And you wonder why the US is so disliked around the world? - So much for American values!

None of these "prisoners" has faced a judge, none of them have been convicted of any crime.
And yet some here recommend that these people be subject to cruel punishments.
Look at what Bush has wrought: Bush has made America a land of torturers.

What about the rights of the people they killed???????

Brave young woman. And many in the military chain of command have tried to get the Bush administration to change course and adhere to the rule of law in the treatment of prisoners. The administration doesn't listen to its military. That is the ultimate disrespect for those who serve our country.
When men who avoided military service (Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld) ignore the advice of Colin Powell and many retired generals, you know we are living in a hell of our own making.
The best way for the U. S. to protect itself against its enemies is to remain a democracy with respect to the rule of law, Geneva Convention, our Bill of Rights and U. S. Constitution. Sad to have to state something so obvious.

Why did she ignore the chain of command? The chain of command obviously doesn't want to hear it. Look what Rumsfeld did to General Shinseki when Shinseki said "we'll need more troops".
As for the guards, has anyone ever heard of discipline? I thought we needed an army and not an undisciplined mob. I, for one, don't want soldiers learning to be animals and then coming home to walk the same streets as I do.

According to some of the idiots here I guess by their standard cops should beat the hell out of everybody that gets thrown in jail here as well. After all there is no way they could possibly not be guilty right? NONE of the Gitmo detainees were released.... oh wait a lot were. Regardless that taught them not to mess with us right? Wait some of them joined the insurgency after they returned!!! But that could not be any were bitter about their treatment could it? Of course not. And the Iraqi's have welcomed us as liberators and GW is a "Uniter, not a Divider" like he promised he would be!!! HAHA!!!

Usually you are innocent until proven guilty not guilty until proven innocent.
The Road to Guantanamo. Watch it. Then tell me that any of this abuse was justified.
