Fugitive Boston Mob Boss Spotted at Gangster Flick?

One of the FBI's 10 Most Wanted Fugitives was reportedly spotted catching a flick that may have hit home for him.

FBI agents are investigating the sighting of a man resembling James "Whitey" Bulger, who was seen leaving a San Diego movie theater showing "The Departed" last month. 

Bulger is wanted by the FBI for committing a range of crimes, including 18 counts of murder, extortion, narcotics distribution and money laundering.  According to the FBI, these crimes were committed "in connection with his leadership of an organized crime group … in the Boston, Massachusetts area," -- much like Jack Nicholson's character in the movie.

Despite a $1 million reward on his head, Bulger has eluded capture for 11 years.  Investigators say Bulger uses a variety of disguises to avoid detection.

ABC News has learned the security videotapes obtained by the FBI from the theater show a man wearing a floppy fishing hat, sunglasses and a windbreaker.

"At this time, no one has concluded that the individual in question is in fact, James Bulger," the U.S. Attorney's Office in Boston told ABC News. "However, as is done with all reported sightings and other lead information, logical and appropriate investigative steps are being taken in cooperation with law enforcement officials in San Diego."

Members of the Bulger Fugitive Task Force have investigated several sightings of his whereabouts in different parts of the country and in foreign countries since the warrant was issued for his capture. 

"This is an ongoing priority fugitive investigation for the FBI. As such, we will continue to pursue all investigative leads," the FBI told ABC News.  "Individuals who believe they have information concerning this matter [Bulger] are requested to contact the San Diego FBI at telephone number (858) 565-1255 or the Boston FBI at telephone number (617) 742-5533."
