Terrorist Video of Targets in New York City Released
November 07, 2006 11:35 AM
Surveillance video of the World Trade Center, the New York Stock Exchange, Liberty Plaza and other downtown street scenes was released by Scotland Yard today shortly after the likely cameraman was sentenced to a minimum of 40 years in prison.
Dhiren Barot and a friend took the video in April 2001, just a few months before the 9/11 attacks, though prosecutors did not charge Barot with direct involvement in the attacks.
But Barot clearly had his eye on the World Trade Center as a target.
THE BLOTTER RECOMMENDS
In one shaky shot, the cameraman zooms into a side shot of the towers and is then heard making the sound of an explosion.
In another eerie clip, the camera zooms into the front of a firehouse where the FDNY plaque is hanging in front of the red door. Over 340 New York City firefighters were killed on Sept. 11, 2001.
Other financial targets are also shown, including the ID check at the entrance to the NYSE as well as Liberty Plaza, where NASDAQ has its administrative headquarters.
U.S. law enforcement officials say Barot had planned to target a number of important financial buildings, including the Citigroup buildings and New York Stock Exchange in New York City, the Prudential Financial building in northern New Jersey and the International Monetary Fund and World Bank buildings in Washington, D.C.

If it is true that Barot did all that planning, plotting and serveillance for an attack on the US, i am DEFINATELY NOT going to see his movie.

Why bother with this investigative news when ABC scheduled the County Music - a clear celebration of southern culture - THE NIGHT BEFORE A VERY IMPORTANT ELECTION. Guess what are the most viewed photo's on Yahoo news today - all CMA awards.
You might as well call ABC the "Republican Broadcasting Company", and skip the investigative part.

Why can't the guy just get two rounds to the cranium? Throw him in a hole in the ground and move on...

If he truly had plotted to attack the US... What other evidence was given aside from the video footage?
In a democracy, people aren't convicted on the premise of having taken video footage of tourist destinations, and nothing more.

Just for your information, nffcnnr, Barot is not the same person as Borat, a very funny commedian. You were just kidding, right?

This just goes to show you how scary the world is today. You can get convicted on talking about things now, and no matter how scary hearing or seeing this video might be, it was never proven I'm supposing to be carried out by him and I would consider it a part of free speech. And remember if you take away free speech from one person, you take it away from all of us. It's a very slippery slope once free speechg goes in the toilet.

umm.... quick note to MojoXN -
there's a link at the bottom of the article that says "Click here to view the evidence against Barot presented in court."
If you want to go off on "democracy" for convicting someone "on the premise of having taken video footage of tourist destinations", perhaps you should have the whole picture first.
There's a lot more to it than the video - that's just the aspect the press has chosen to use as a hook for thier stories

> What other evidence was given aside from the video footage?
The BBC WEB-site has details:
Dhiren Barot, 34, a Muslim convert, was a "member or close associate" of the al-Qaeda terrorist organisation. The UK citizen had been under MI5 surveillance and was arrested in London in August 2004 after police decided he was "simply too dangerous to leave" on the streets. Police determined that Barot received extensive terrorism training in the use of weapons and explosives for the first time in Pakistan in 1995. The Police recovered and documents, e-mails, DVDs and computer hard drives, which were used to prosecute this man. Evidence revealed the most developed plot was the "gas limos project", a plan to blow up three limousines "packed" with gas cylinders and explosives next to or under target buildings in the UK. Additionally, Barot was planning arson through hijacked petrol tankers and the use of an aircraft. Plans to detonate so-called dirty bombs - explosives devices containing radioactive material were also found in his possession. Barot was not convicted for videotaping in the US.

yeah ABC -what was up w/ the bubba fest on Monday nite? We could have used an infusion of some thing that made more sense for a broader audience. The glitter boyz and cheatin gals of cuntry music have a narrow [minded] audience. It did not appeal to our hope for some good election fodder and it really made our family wonder what your progamming execs were thinking.
Maybe nffcnnr is correct - ABC is GOP spelled sideways....

Does anyone have any idea how many people on any given day are shooting video of famous landmarks in NYC?
Someone had better tell them that it's illegal and there's a new law on the books.
Whether or not they may have affiliations with AQ or The Birchers or some survivalist group from Idaho or the Church of Latter Day Saints doesn't really matter.
I would suppose they have all opened themselves up to some degree for the possibility of "justifiably" being stopped, searched and detained just for simply shooting the video.
"Strange days indeed."

I AM NOT A COUNTRY MUSIC FAN, BUT IT WAS MUCH BETTER THAN WATCHING POLITICAL CROOKS, AND LIBERAL MEDIA ACTING AND SINGING. I DO THINK COUNTRY MUSIC PERFORMERS ARE MORE REAL THAN THE OTHER AWARDS SHOWS, AND I DON'T BELIEVE THEY MADE FUN OF ANYONE, OR DID I MISS THAT?

I don't know why so many people are down on ABC for running the CMA on election night. Isn't watching election coverage kind of like watching the Weather Channel? A great deal of talking about no information!! I'm sure ABC realizes that there are many people not interested in watching the election results, so they gave those people an alternative. And no, it's not apathy to not watch: what is the point of staying up till the wee hours only to go to bed still uninformed of the outcome, when you can just wait until the next day to find out. I voted, and I care about the outcome, but I'm not going to waste my time like that!

Another media propaganda story. Trying to scare people into submission. This will continue on and on if Americans allow their fear to control them.
The only thing to fear is fear itself. Al Qaeda is actually Al CIA along with MI6 in Britain. These so called terrorist were trained by the CIA in Afghanistan to oust the soviets. The CIA along with other intelligence agencies are able to use money to pay insurgent groups, extremist, and criminals to get a job done. That is how Afghanistan's government was over turned. The same with all these so called terrorist.
The bill of rights and habeas corpus has now been over ruled by the recent military commission legislation.
The simple thing is America will be scared into submission to think that the USA government will protect them but the fact is they will not protect but violate one's rights. This happened in Abu Grahib and Guantanamo Bay.
Think, investigate, learn, question. Don't take what the media feeds you.

First off all tv is mind controling to some exstent. That's why they call it programs. Wake up America! Country music is a form of mind control. Flouride in your water is mind control. We've been controled for over fifty years. We haven't ever as a country or any other country had true honest journalism. Most people couldn't deal with it. The closest we come is the BBC. Learn to think for your self.
