Update: One Bush Twin Leaves Argentina, One Twin Stays Behind

November 27, 2006 8:26 PM

Bush_sisters_nr_2 As one of the Bush daughters left Argentina, a U.S. embassy spokesman denied reports they suggested the twins leave in an official statement issued this evening.

First Daughter Barbara Bush ended a 25th birthday vacation trip to Buenos Aires and left the country on a flight late last night, ABC News has learned. Her sister Jenna plans to stay for at least another 10 days, sources tell ABC News.

The U.S. Embassy Press Office in Buenos Aires, which had refused comment to ABC News earlier today, issued a public statement tonight, denying reports that embassy officials "strongly suggested" that President Bush's daughters curtail their visit in Argentina.

The e-mail statement from the embassy states, "This is false, as are other aspects of the report referring to the Embassy's position on the visit. The Embassy welcomes the visit and has provided close support and cooperation."

The twins highly visible 25th birthday vacation trip to Buenos Aires became a security headache, diplomatic and security officials told ABC News, after the theft of Barbara's purse and cell phone during a visit to a popular marketplace. Other public events attended by the Bush sisters also resulted in extensive local media coverage.

This is news? Two vacuous bimbos? Should I be annoyed that they have a good time in Argentina? Should I care? What concerns me is that the media here (and not just ABC) make such a big deal out of absolutely nothing.

Why should we care what these girls are doing? My son is in Iraq, he chose to join the Marines and I am proud of him, but I dare anyone to criticize what he is doing. Not all young people are cut out for combat.
We should all stop being so judgmental, I'm sure that Barbara and Jenna will get down to something constructive very soon. I can't see that there parents would have it any other way.

When y'all going to leave the children of the president alone? I don't care WHOSE prez, wheather it be a Democratic Clinton or a Republican Bush...can you please leave the children alone and let them have some peace? They don't need to pay for the faux pas of their parents. THANK YOU.

I'm just thankful Bush's daughters aren't standing by their father's side or donning fatigues for a photo op, all in an attempt to put a pretty face on his BS. The twins aren't cooperating, and whether it's because they just really like to party or because they hate their dad's politics, either way, they're not being "good" first daughters and I'm glad.
It certainly would be good politics for the twins to be in Iraq -- doing some sort of feel-good "hearts and minds" stuff... oh, you know, like giving out Jolly Ranchers to Iraqi children whose houses were just bombed. Of course, if the family as a whole really had their public-persona act together, then sure, the twins should be serving in the military. Reality is, they're a security issue, etc. so I wouldn't blame them for being put in some low-risk position. But at least it would show an effort toward non-hypocrisy on W's part -- the idea that he's willing to send his own children to war. Remember, though, that the twins are 25. Their dad can't force them to enlist.
I admire them for not functioning as tools of their father's agenda. If W was my dad, I too would probably be out drinking & partying to get away from it all. Well, in addition to that I'd probably grab as much of my inheritance as I could and use it to run for office as a Green or a Democrat in Texas or Uncle Jeb's Florida.

these two are poor examples of young privliged rich punks. born on 3rd base, think they hit a home run when they touch home plate. they have right to party with their inherited wealth, but do the taxpayers have to subsidise it?

I agree that the US Government has to protect Mr. Bush's daughters. but they shouldnt be permitted to leave the United States unless they are on official U.S. business or serving in the military, OR paying for their own security. There are perfectly lovely places to vacation here in the States, and even Hawaii is much less expensive, much less of a logistical nightmare, and much more secure than Argentina.

I would like to know who is paying for the girls vacations? If they pay their way, who cares were they go. If taxpayers pay for secruity, then they should not compromise their safety and the safety of our country because they want to vacation outside of the U.S. On the subject of being a role model for other young people. They aren't doing a very good job of it. Not all President child do what they are suppose to do to keep out of the media's eyes. Reagan children for one. So, live and let live.

Dear uneducated,

There are too many of you to list.

It's a voluntary military! Get over your whinny, why didn't they joint mantra.

The anti-bush haters are alive and well it seems. Apparantly in their little minds, ALL Bush Administration officials and their families (kids included) should be 1)in the military, at the front lines 2) be NOT having ANY fun while someone else's kids are overseas fighting in Iraq . I notice that Chelsea Clinton, Amy Carter never went in the military? Chelsea goes to Stanford at govt expense, then right out of college gets a six figure income in an investment firm in NY. The amount of "family overseas tours" by Hilliary and Chelsea (neither elected officials at the time) were more than double or triple the ones taken by family members during the previous 3 administrations. Kerry and Algore, THEIR families didnt go into the military. Kerry's daughter didnt even bother to join the USO tours. Kennedy of course has NO family near the military and never will. So lets get it on level playing field here ok?

The reason why it seems that there are many Bush-haters on the forum is the fact that only 28% of the country still supports his dry-drunk presidency. For it is Bush himself who has disrespected the office of Presidency by FAILING in his duty as Commander in Chief.

It is simply a natural statistical probability that this occurs on such forums.

The story is the twins vacationing in South America. Their father is claiming that we are in a "world-wide war against terror that will require the sacrifice of every American"

I thought the Bush twins were US citizens but I could be mistaken.

As more and more families get that knock on the door with that man in uniform notifying them of their son or daughter or mother or fathers death,(and 15 more did in the last two days) the GOP
Neo-"Con" loyalists will only isolate themselves to obscurity.

To be sure, the military is voluntary. That means there is nothing stopping all the Neo-"Con" apologists from signing up and fighting the "enemy" whoever, that is.
One question begs to be asked.
"How many US soldiers and Marines have been killed or maimed by sectarian violance as opposed to being killed or maimed by Al-Qaeda ?

The fact is, the Bush twins don't deserve to be blamed for the bad judgement exercised by their father.
As for Chelsea, and Amy, their fathers did not start a war and ask every American to join a world-wide war against terror. Then, constantly fear-monger the American populace. Nor did they promote hatred of the United States by displaying an arrogance not seen since (insert the name of any dictator here)

The people of the United States have spoken. Who's whining now!!
