Cold Cash Congressman Says He Has 'Never Taken a Bribe' in New Campaign Ad
December 01, 2006 11:50 AM
Louisiana Congressman William Jefferson (D-La.) has taken to the airwaves to unequivocally deny the allegations that have plagued him for months. "I have never taken a bribe from anyone," he asserts in a new campaign ad.
Jefferson is running for re-election despite being at the center of a federal bribery investigation. He faces a run-off against fellow Democrat State Rep. Karen Carter on Dec. 9.
Carter has seized on the probe in her campaign against Jefferson, and recently ran an ad quoting a Washington Post article that said the FBI had caught Jefferson accepting a bribe on videotape. In this latest ad, Jefferson responds by saying that Carter's "newspaper source got the facts wrong."
THE BLOTTER RECOMMENDS
A search warrant issued in May alleged that Jefferson had accepted $100,000 in cash from an FBI informant on behalf of a high-ranking foreign government official in exchange for help with securing a telecommunications contract in Africa. The affidavit states that Jefferson's handling of the briefcase containing the cash was "videotaped by the FBI from several vantage points." Most of the cash was later found in a freezer in Jefferson's house.
Jefferson has not yet been charged with a crime. Two of his associates pled guilty to bribery-related charges earlier in the year.

Except that once when he was caught on video allegedly accepting a bribe from an undercover FBI agent and later found to have the marked bills in his freezer at home?

Of course it was not a bribe. Democrats will call it something else. We have to remove that word from the Dictionary. Democrats will not accept bribes. So I wonder what the new PC code word will be. Since most of them are lawyers maybe they will call it a "Trust Account" Trust me I will come through for you. No bribe just a Trust me Money to do what is right.

Jack Murtha Comes To Mind, Remember ABSCAM?
Only Difference between Murtha and Jefferson Is The Color Of the Skin. Both Appear To Be Crooks But One Should not Be Punished any more than the other.

We need blind indictments - where the facts of the case are presented but the name is not.

I did not have bribe with that man Mr.....
And another Democrat bites the dust...... And on and on and on and on...

Guys if the FBI or any agency gets close to indicting a democrat, the Mainstream Media will immediately stop covering it, look at all the crap that is now coming out AFTER the election. ABC, NBC,CBS, and Cnn are nothing more than talking heads for the democrat party. Even the disgraced and replaced Dan Rather is still at it.
Posted by: SL | Dec 4, 2006 3:14:39 PM
Are you kidding me Shane? The current administration has redefined everything negative in every piece of propoganda they have produced and tried to pass it off as something positive and you accuse the Democrats of trying to reinvent? I remember reading, hearing and seeing articles detailing Jefferson's corrupt behavior as the lead story by all of the news outlets you accuse of being talking heads. Perhaps you were too tuned into the daily Fox "News" channel's daily worship of our idiot-in-chief to have noticed any differently.

Makes you wonder what the rest of the Washington hoodlums do every single day...but he must go.

It's not a question of democrat or republican. Greed is rampant, and people (dems - repubs, white -black, man - woman) will sell there sole for a buck. We are a weak and decaying world and society, just like our planet. I'm not a zealot, I beleive in God, (but I beleive that's between me and him so I won't impose it on you) and I do beleive the signs of the end times are evident and obvious. Maybe not tommorrow, or even 50 years. But the decline and finality is certain. People would rather watch survivor and make overs, than pay attention to the clear decline, waste and disgust. Foget getting involved when over half our population can't even find the 5 minutes every 4 years to vote for a national leader. I love my country. There is no dispute America is great, but we have become weak and soft (except our volunteer troops). God bless our WWII generation. We need you more than ever.

I hope the Democratic Leadership throws this guy out or else The Democratic Leadership will look just like the Republicans.
Posted by: Patrick | Dec 8, 2006 9:14:24 AM
Man, you Republicans are just grasping now. I had no idea you guys were such whiners. You LOST control of Congress. It's okay though, you still have the Presidency and the Court, and oh yeah, Rush is still on the air. That's so sad you guys aren't in control of ALL branches of govt. Too bad. Boo hoo.
Yeah, a Dem Congressman took a bribe. WOW! Surely, no Republican congressman has ever . . . oh, wait, what about the Duke-stir? Oh yeah, what about Foley's actions in Congress?
Congressmen take bribes and do other disgraceful things, both Rep. and Democrat. Doesn't Rush cover that? Well, maybe it's hard to touch all the bases when you're coming down off Vicodin.

This isn't about Democrat/Republican. It's about ehics, which seem to have disappeared completely. If politicians or their families haven't screwed enough people before getting elected, they make up for lost time when they're in office keeping up with the Jeffersons. Time for a new system, including enforcement with teeth.
Posted by: gazer | Dec 8, 2006 1:10:14 PM
OH yea, lets see, over the years, when a Republican gets caught, or causes a stir, they are forced to resign, ie: foley, and the senator over the Strom Thurmond comments, but when a Democrat gets in trouble he gets reelected, how about Barney frank (the gay prostitute ring from his house and his lover) and stoops, who was actually doing congressional pages, not just emailing them, or the one in california whos aide is still missing? or ...go on and on, yepper, I love the double standards...oh yea, and how about our Nevada senator Reid and the extra Million he made in land deals without being there, reminds me of whitwater and the 100,000 extra Hillary got from a 10,000 investment..lets just get on with the business of governing..and cutting the lies and bull...

A Democrat taking a bribe, it can't be!!!!!!!
Posted by: Travis Roste | Dec 8, 2006 2:37:42 PM
Look at this guy. Would you really buy a used car from him?
Posted by: Jim G | Dec 8, 2006 2:44:23 PM
Aww,come on now, in Cold Hard (like "frozen"}Bill,s case, the fact that there were $100,000.00 in marked bills in his freezer is explainable. This is diversity at its best. Some individuals (like gentleman Congressmen) simply prefer to "freeze" their assets while simpletons like most of us, freeze food in ours. You know, kinda like some prefer chocolate ice cream and others prefer vanilla. Hooray for diversity uh' Bill? Alcatraz is closed isn't it?

OK Folks, get ready for an up-coming publication titled, "If I Took a Bribe,This is the Way I Would Have Done It".
Also, those that place their order early will also get 50% off the FBI video and a $5.00 coupon toward your next freezer purchase.
Posted by: Alan Langford | Dec 8, 2006 7:45:14 PM
This will blow over for one reason alone. He is a Democrat. Now if he were Republican front page news., I can barely watch or read the news anymore it is so one sided. Shame on the news media, they have lost their way and won't or cannot see it.
