Hackers Posing As the FBI Shut Down Major Internet Video Game Sites

Hackers posing as FBI agents attacked and shut down three large Internet video game sites. One of the sites, Godzsite.com, features the latest hot games to play like Hunter, Snowboard Madness and Acid Factory.

The sites were defaced with the FBI seal and an anti-piracy warning, which states, "The unauthorized reproduction or distribution of copyrighted work is illegal.  Criminal copyright infringement, including infringement without monetary gain, is investigated by the FBI and is punishable by up to 5 years in federal prison a fine of $250,000."

"They did a very thorough job," FBI spokesperson Cathy Milhoan told ABC News. "It looks very official, but we are not responsible."

While the attacks only targeted video game Web sites, where players can play various kinds of  video games, the Internet Crime Complaint Center, which collaborates with the FBI on Internet crimes, issued a warning that the attacks may expand to other Internet sites.

"In some instances, the registrant information has also been hacked and changed to appear as if the site is registered to the FBI," the alert added.

"We are working with the companies affected to track down those responsible and get the sites back up and running," said Milhoan.

According to the IC3 warning, "Anyone using the FBI seal, name, or initials without consent is subject to prosecution under federal law."
