Failed London Plotters Had Terror Training Camp in the U.K.
January 17, 2007 2:19 PM
Five men trained at a terrorist camp in Northern England before they attempted to detonate backpack bombs on the London subway and bus system on July 21, 2005, according to British prosecutors.
Six defendants are currently on trial in London for the failed attack, which prosecutors reportedly have described as an "extremist Muslim plot."
Today, Scotland Yard released pictures of five of the defendants at the alleged training camp in northern England in May 2004.
The pictures, which were taken 15 months prior to the failed attack, were taken by British police who had the men under surveillance at that time.
Today prosecutors said in court that they show the group as they packed up and prepared to leave a campsite on a farm in the Elterwater area of the Lake District. The jury heard that some of the accused appeared to stand in a line and pray. A police officer said the group also seemed to be taking part in some kind of organized running activity.

The trial is in its first week and is expected to last four months. All six men have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
