moratorium on Immigration for 10

In the US, had these clerks brought this purchase to the attention of authorities, there would have been an outcry over bias and prejudice towards these beauty supply shoppers...

It looks like a smoking gun taken in context of the story, but 100 liters of peroxide at a wholesale beauty supply house wouldn't normally alert anyone to a problem. Interperting what someone said, it's just a quantity of hair treatments. More likely than not, these guys were being watched.

But I doubt they were calling in their orders for cosmetics to Quiada HQ on open phone lines.

I dare ABC to run this footage as much as they ran Abu Gharib hijinks.

Surely CCTV cameras everywhere is a total invasion of individual freedom? Could phone-tapping of terrorist phone calls or racial profiling of muslims be next? These are outrages of individual rights and should be resisted at all costs by every able-bodied leftie.

Actually you can buy high concentrate Hydrogen Peroxide H2O2 by the 55 gallon drum at most chemical supply stores. It is often used to treat domestic water systems that are high in sulphurs. However, it would seem a red flag would go up if someone were to buy such a large quantity in small bottles from a beauty shop. Helloooooooooooo

A few responses to some very inane comments above:
- George Bush (or any other American) cannot put surveilance on British citizens on British soil.
- I have worked in the cosmetic supply business. A $500 order is not large, happens daily, and is not suspicious, especially if a deposit is made in advance.
- Liberals and Democrats are just as concerned about the safety of this country and its inhabitants as anyone, they just disagree with you on how to maintain that safety.
- Pelosi and Rangel are more interested and dedicated to preserving your rights and the traditions of this country than those in the current administration.

wonder why the beauty store employees weren't suspicious of someone purchasing such a large order of hydrogen peroxide? They would be accused of racial profiling!! DUH!

Hydrogen peroxide is an ordinary household chemical purchased by millions. It's used for lightening hair (head, leg, arm, etc.), first aid, household cleaning, removing laundry stains... all kinds of things. Lots of household chemicals _could_ be used for nefarious purposes, but could anyone seriously back tracking or limiting these purchases? Better track other things that could be put to criminal purposes, too -- sunglasses, hats, and scarves (hiding your identity while committing a crime), baseball bats, screwdrivers (it's a burglary tool and a stabbing implement in one!). Oh, and don't forget the flour mentioned in the story -- we'd better have grocery store clerks record "suspicious" baking product purchases, too! Then we'll be safe!

Or, we could have law enforcement focus on good old-fashioned police work, which so far has been behind every successful terrorism investigation so far.

You may say that you should have to get government permission to buy anything to build a bomb, but you can't do that.

What about aluminum and iron oxide? They are the ingredients to making thermite, which, might I add, is potentially explosive. They are used by painters to add colors to paints.

You can also BUY thermite on the internet. That just doesn't work out for your "present a purchase permit and a usage license to purchase anything that can be used to build a bomb" theory is totally unreasonable.

Are you going to crack down on model rockets too? Their engines could be made into a bomb, and they are rockets, which are a lot like bombs.

What about all the other ways to make explosives with common materials? You should think about your words before you say them.
