U.K. Alleged Bomb Makers Pay $500 for Lethal Materials
January 19, 2007 1:13 PM
Two alleged British terror plotters who purchased a main bomb-making ingredient in a beauty supply shop were captured completing their purchase on videotape shown today in court in London.
The chilling security camera recording was made just two days before the successful July 7, 2005 bombings that killed 52 Londoners and just over two weeks before the unsuccessful July 21 attacks, in which peroxide-based bombs failed to detonate.
Watch the video of the alleged plotters making their $500 purchase.
ABC News has exclusively broadcast pictures of the completed bombs from the failed attempt along with the bomb-making materials and X-rays of one nail-studded device. Those materials were discussed in court earlier this week.
THE BLOTTER RECOMMENDS
The CCTV video showed two alleged plotters, Manfo Kwaku Asiedu and Muktar Said Ibrahim, grinning and chatting as they completed the purchase of 52 gallons of hydrogen peroxide. Their order was greater than the supplies on hand at Pak Cosmetics in Finsbury Park, London, and the manufacturers had to make a new batch of hydrogen peroxide just to meet it.

At Woolwich Crown Court today, the jury in the July 21 trial was played closed-circuit TV images from July 5, 2005. It showed Asiedu and Ibrahim strolling into the store to pick up their order.

They loaded 13 boxes of peroxide onto a hand truck after handing over the equivalent of about $330 in cash, a final payment which followed an earlier deposit of about $195.00.
The highly concentrated peroxide was one of several ingredients in the home-made high explosives the men allegedly helped to prepare. The bombs failed to go off because of too much oxygen in the mix.
In addition to the videotape, the jury was told how the two men loaded the box into the trunk and backseat of their car, a silver Austin Montego.
Asiedu and Ibrahim are accused, along with four other men, of plotting to carry out a series of suicide bombings on the London transport system, using an explosive mixture that contained hydrogen peroxide and chapatti flour. The flour was used to stabilize the volatile mix.
The jury was also shown a picture of a torn-up receipt for the deposit on the peroxide, on which was written, "Deposit for #100. Peroxide at 18%. 50 gallons."
Asiedu, 33, of no fixed address, and Ibrahim, 28, of Stoke Newington, north London, are among six men accused of hatching the extremist Muslim plot to carry out a series of murderous suicide bombings on the London public transport system on July 21, 2005.
The other defendants are: Ramzi Mohammed, 25, from North Kensington, west London, Yassin Omar, 26, from New Southgate, north London, Hussain Osman, 28, of no fixed address, and Adel Yahya, 24, of High Road, Tottenham, north London. Four of the men allegedly tried and failed to detonate rucksack bombs on three Tube trains and a bus.
Asiedu was supposed to have been the fifth suicide bomber but lost his nerve at the last moment, the prosecution claims. Yahya left the country several weeks beforehand.

The Brits are doing a great job
in finding the bad guy, although,
I do not understand why those
apprehended do not have their
citizenship withdrawn and are
deported to the home lands. England now lookes like Indis,
Pakistan or Saudi Arabia. The
immense growth of arabs who join
the Jihad in England is unbelievable. England need a
moratorium on Immigration for 10
years. It will take hundreds of
years to assimilate those now there.

In the US, had these clerks brought this purchase to the attention of authorities, there would have been an outcry over bias and prejudice towards these beauty supply shoppers...

Do you think this is scary? Check
out "modern binary explosive"

It looks like a smoking gun taken in context of the story, but 100 liters of peroxide at a wholesale beauty supply house wouldn't normally alert anyone to a problem. Interperting what someone said, it's just a quantity of hair treatments. More likely than not, these guys were being watched.
But I doubt they were calling in their orders for cosmetics to Quiada HQ on open phone lines.

I dare ABC to run this footage as much as they ran Abu Gharib hijinks.

Surely CCTV cameras everywhere is a total invasion of individual freedom? Could phone-tapping of terrorist phone calls or racial profiling of muslims be next? These are outrages of individual rights and should be resisted at all costs by every able-bodied leftie.

Yeah Scott, great logic. Democrats are way worse than Bush (or Cheney, they're interchangable). Our civil liberties are raped, but I assume that's okay.

Actually you can buy high concentrate Hydrogen Peroxide H2O2 by the 55 gallon drum at most chemical supply stores. It is often used to treat domestic water systems that are high in sulphurs. However, it would seem a red flag would go up if someone were to buy such a large quantity in small bottles from a beauty shop. Helloooooooooooo

A few responses to some very inane comments above:
- George Bush (or any other American) cannot put surveilance on British citizens on British soil.
- I have worked in the cosmetic supply business. A $500 order is not large, happens daily, and is not suspicious, especially if a deposit is made in advance.
- Liberals and Democrats are just as concerned about the safety of this country and its inhabitants as anyone, they just disagree with you on how to maintain that safety.
- Pelosi and Rangel are more interested and dedicated to preserving your rights and the traditions of this country than those in the current administration.
Have a pleasant weekend.

wonder why the beauty store employees weren't suspicious of someone purchasing such a large order of hydrogen peroxide? They would be accused of racial profiling!! DUH!

Hydrogen peroxide is an ordinary household chemical purchased by millions. It's used for lightening hair (head, leg, arm, etc.), first aid, household cleaning, removing laundry stains... all kinds of things. Lots of household chemicals _could_ be used for nefarious purposes, but could anyone seriously back tracking or limiting these purchases? Better track other things that could be put to criminal purposes, too -- sunglasses, hats, and scarves (hiding your identity while committing a crime), baseball bats, screwdrivers (it's a burglary tool and a stabbing implement in one!). Oh, and don't forget the flour mentioned in the story -- we'd better have grocery store clerks record "suspicious" baking product purchases, too! Then we'll be safe!
Or, we could have law enforcement focus on good old-fashioned police work, which so far has been behind every successful terrorism investigation so far.

You may say that you should have to get government permission to buy anything to build a bomb, but you can't do that.
What about aluminum and iron oxide? They are the ingredients to making thermite, which, might I add, is potentially explosive. They are used by painters to add colors to paints.
You can also BUY thermite on the internet. That just doesn't work out for your "present a purchase permit and a usage license to purchase anything that can be used to build a bomb" theory is totally unreasonable.
Are you going to crack down on model rockets too? Their engines could be made into a bomb, and they are rockets, which are a lot like bombs.
What about all the other ways to make explosives with common materials? You should think about your words before you say them.
Please think before broadcasting your ideas.

And the Gov. supplied the vid, and the Gov. supplied the ID, and allegedly they did this and allegedly did that. Notice how the charges never stick? Just like 9/11, there are too many doubts about 7/7 and most false flag ops to generate hatred towards foreigners and support for murderous campaigns. Blair is a sad excuse for a man with almost as little support as the newest member of the Dictator Club, Georgie W. Bush. No courage to stand for the truth and no compassion for human life. Only the courage to protect himself and do that which those more powerful than he tell him to do. Remember when Bush said - "Yes I'd love a dictatorship, as long as I'm the dictator" (heh, heh). Well yougave him his wish America- do you have the courage to stand up and ask for your freedom back? I wonder.
