Pakistan Braces for Another Attack

February 15, 2007 2:20 PM

Nm_islamabad_070215_nr Amid intelligence reports that terrorists were planning a third strike on the Pakistani capital today, anti-terrorist police were posted on street corners, and traffic cops searched vehicles that headed down roads leading to government offices and the heavily-fortified diplomatic enclave.

In two earlier strikes this year, a suicide bomber detonated himself outside Islamabad's Marriott Hotel on Jan. 26, and another attacker, identified by Pakistani authorities as an Islamic cleric from central Pakistan, was killed Feb. 6 by security guards when he tried to hurl a grenade at Islamabad's airport.

Officials say thousands of extra police have since been brought in from neighboring provinces to set up checkpoints around the city.

The attacks in the normally quiet Pakistani capital are believed to be retaliation for a January air strike in South Waziristan that obliterated a terrorist hideout, killing dozens of Taliban and al Qaeda supporters.

Pakistani officials have told diplomats that they believe a dozen or so attackers were dispatched to the capital to carry out attacks. All but four have been captured or killed.

Where is everyone on the left blaming the US? If this attack was in Iraq, Europe, or the US, there would be dozens of posters commenting on how it is Bush's fault.

Oh wait..maybe they just haven't figured out how to blame the US yet. Keep trying though, I'm sure you will find some reason to defend Al-Qaeda's actions.

ArmyMed:

While I agree there are some people out there that seem to despise this nation based on their words and actions, those people are few and far between. To say 'the left' is blaming the U.S. for everything doesn’t cover it. I find it hard to fathom how anyone could defend day after day the misguided policies of our president, but that is what I see from members of our Congress. I refuse to be force fed that Iraq is the front for the war on terror b/c it is not. I believe most criticism is based on HOW our country is fighting the WOT, not that we ARE fighting it. What a different, and probably more successful, path we might have taken had our Congress not failed us during the first 6 years of the Bush presidency. To leave the decisions of America’s interests and policies in the sole hands of 1 administration was completely irresponsible.

Coulda-Would-Shoulda...we can't change the past. If we live in it, we die in it

According to Al-Qaeda, Iraq is where they plan on making a stand. Iraq, is becoming Al-Qaeda's Vietnam, not ours. AQ has put all their resources and manpower into driving the US out of the country, so that freedom and democracy can't take hold. To AQ, freedom and democracy is the greatest threat.

We can argue over pre-war intel until our faces turn blue. It won't solve anything. The fact is, that AQ is in Iraq NOW, and they will turn that country into a killing field should we leave. If Iraq becomes a killing field, because we leave, then the US military will lose all credibility when it comes to any future wars.

Why would our soldiers ever want to fight another war, after leaving Iraq? What is the point of shedding our blood, if we are going to have to leave anyways. Sacraficing for victory and for the freedom of others is one thing. Asking soldiers to sacrafice for nothing is another.

So you say arguing over pre-war intel and talking about the past wont solve a thing?! I dont think the America wants another Vietnam and Iraq 20 years from now, but that is exactly what we will get when administrations do whatever the heck they want. Oh, I forgot, manipulating pre-war intel is ok in your eyes. And why is al-Qaeda all over Iraq? Because we took down a despicable regime that wasnt directly threatening us. You can argue any case for war against Iraq you want, and you will be wrong every single time. al-Qaeda is in Iraq because of us and dont tell me Iraq might become a killing field, its a civil war that we are policing for crying out loud!

The stories that I read indicate that suicide bombers are used. There is no suicide ideation about this person. He or she is not committing suidice he or she in fact is using bombs to kill other people. Therefore he is not a suicidal person he or she is nothing more than a murder, please don't offer any comparison of a murder to a person who completes suicide as the reasons are very different. Those who contmeplate suicide are often depressed persons or with other mental needs, their ideation is not about war. Bombers on the other hand are set out to do as much damage to anyone in their path, thus makes them murders.

Listen up to all of you saying that the US is the reason for al queida is in Iraq, you are all completely misinformed. So whats your excuse for al queida being in somalia or any other country eh, is that americas fault as well you fools. please get your facts straight about anything that goes on, being a military communications support, 25 uniform to be exact. this is a global problem and instead of people accusing other people of not doing things why doesnt everyone come to an agreement and join the fight, its not americas fault that we are the strongest and most advanced country in the world. and probably the only country that has the technology and the military might to even do anything. This is to all the dems and gops i dont care what party you support, if you dont support your president you support the enemy and im sorry to say that but it is true. the american men and women in uniform deserve everyones entire support regardless if you agree with whats going on, and it also makes me sick to my stomach. anyways good day to all you. hope you all had the balls to join and help the fight instead of sitting back and doing nothing, your no good to america if you think that way.
