Afghan Official Disputes Evidence That Iran Is Arming The Taliban
June 15, 2007 2:11 PM
Despite claims by the United States that there is "irrefutable evidence" Iran is smuggling weapons to the Taliban in Afghanistan, the defense minister of Afghanistan today disputed those claims.
"There has been evidence of weapons, but it is difficult to link it to Iran," said Abdurrahim Wardak in an interview with the Associated Press in Brussels today. "It is possible that [they] might be from al Qaeda, from the drug mafia or from other sources."
Wardak joined a meeting of NATO defense ministers in which it was decided today more trainers would be deployed to Afghanistan to work with the army there.
Earlier this week, U.S. Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns told CNN there was "irrefutable evidence" that the smuggled weapons shipments were coming from Iran's government.
Last week, ABC News was first to report on a coalition analysis that concluded there is clear evidence of Iran's involvement.
"This is part of a considered policy," said the analysis, "rather than the result of low-level corruption and weapons smuggling."
Do you have a tip for Brian Ross and the Investigative Team?
The coalition analysis said munitions recovered in two Iranian convoys, on April 11 and May 3, had "clear indications that they originated in Iran. Some were identical to Iranian supplied goods previously discovered in Iraq."
The April convoy was tracked from Iran into Helmand province and led to a fierce firefight that destroyed one vehicle, according to the official analysis. A second vehicle was reportedly found to contain small arms ammunition, mortar rounds and more than 650 pounds of C4 demolition charges.
A second convoy of two vehicles was spotted on May 3 and led to the capture of five occupants and the seizure of RPG-7mm rockets and more than 1,000 pounds of C4, the analysis said.
Also among the munitions are components for the lethal EFPs, or explosive formed projectiles, the roadside bombs that U.S. officials say Iran has provided to Iraqi insurgents with deadly results.

These sort of claims that "Iran wants to kill us, steal our freedom and destroy our way of life" are word for word the propaganda that was used against the Soviet Union during the cold war, communism in general since WWII and most recently the Taliban, Al Queda and our empty justification for invading Iraq.
Except for the name of the boogieman, the speeches are all exactly the same.
And we as a nation, keep falling for it, again and again in spite of the fact that when all is said and done the threats were proven exaggerated, the cases were misrepresented and the need for fear or militarism was unnecessary.

Now who’s right about Iran’s involvement in Afghanistan? The Afghan Official disputing the evidence or the United States who’s making the case against Iran. This is critical for invading a sovereign Country.

Can we continue to rely on liers like the President of the USA.They will say anything to continue/escalate the war on any front in order to secure huge profits for thier friend of many multi-national corporation and the like. The USA and the european union will do anything to control any country especially west of europe in light that europe changing face is becoming Islamic.I think this has been going on for hundreds of years as intelligent scholars have probably realized.Using democrasy propaganda they take control of peoples countries and economy and at the end all for there cheap chauvinist culture

Not one more military involvement or engagement until this administration requires a draft, increases taxes, and demands better equipment, lower prices for equipment, and extreme oversight of the military industrial complex as well as all and any intelligence brought to any decisions by this and any administration regarding any decision of military pre-emption or war. In other words, if we aren't all in this together, we aren't in it.

All of this nonsense goes directly back to the Project for a New American Century, or PNAC. The leaders of this neo-con "think tank" and the principles they espouse tie DIRECTLY to everything that has transpired since 9/11/01 and perhaps back to the 2000 election. Why will the mainstream media not engage in due diligence regarding PNAC? Is it because the likes of Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld are card-carrying members who will ostracize any media who dare to enter their lair?
Perhaps when/if PNAC is held accountable for its views and actions, we'll understand so much more about the world around us. And it won't be a pretty sight for most Americans.

Pull out of the middle east and let these backward thinking animals kill each other off!

Shock and awe was ok. We should leave it to shock and awe. Let peoples earn democracy for themselves. We should take out Iran's nuclear program with air strikes and forget about any occupation or assinine idea of presenting people of Islam with democracy. They are like children and want a father to tell them what to do. Lets develope alternative energy and let the middle east eat sand.

I can not believe these comments. One must be so blinded and ignorant not to see what is going on in the world. We, non-Islamic and non-Communists are facing the biggest danger ever known to a man. It is interesting to see that everything is unfolding before YOUR eyes, and you are STILL refusing to SEE… In a year Bush Administration is going to be a history; who are you going to blame then?????

Good show Ljubica. You mirror my feelings. Everything in the world is our fault. You have to be totally brain dead not to realize that Iran is pushing weapons and money into Afganistan and Iraq. If these countries become anything more than a mullah monarchy, they would be a direct threat to the Iranian government. Iran wants to control the region and will seek nothing less unless the West takes a stand. Nukes in Iranian hands can never be permitted to happen.

But WHAT IF Iran really did want to build reactors for energy. If they did that, not only would they not have to import gas due to lack of refining capacity, they could sit on their crude until such time as they can get their desired price. Equally devastating as it forces energy competitors to seek other sources in direct competition with the US.
Then think about the Iraqi oil bourse and the Iranian oil bourse, both of which directly impact the weak dollar.
Paul Wolfowitz, U.S. deputy defense minister said: "Let's look at it simply. The most important difference between North Korea and Iraq is that economically, we just had no choice in Iraq. The country swims on a sea of oil." That was in 2003.
Now it's Iran. Over and over we hear Iran. I would not lose sleep about Iran; Israel has demonstrated they have no problem with attacking reactors and I doubt they would hesitate to use atomics on Natanz or other facilities of their choosing. Ever hear of Dimona?
Goerring said that a lie repeated often will become accepted as truth. Thich Nhat Hanh said governments need enemies to rally people and make them afraid, and if they don't have a real enemy they will invent one to mobilize us.
If you consider only the two items above, it is dangerous to believe everything you are told without thought and careful deliberation. There is a lot more to this equation than appears on the surface.

Liberals will need severe therapy when bush leaves office. Who will they gripe about? its great to know the left-wing are STILL minority in this country.

OK!! Just bring our men and women home and put them to work securing our borders from illegal aliens. Put them in the streets and let them help stop the gangs and their ruthless killing of innocent children. Let them help fight forest fires. They'd be a whole lot safer than where they are now. I'm really getting sick of my country (and don't get me wrong I love this country and still believe it's the best place on the planet to live) going over to other countries and trying to shove "democracy" down their throats. Then after we bomb them a few times, we have to take American hard earned money over there to "rebuild" what we just tore down. Now tell me does that make any sense to you? It doesn't to me. We need to stabilize our own "democratic" system before we can push it off on someone else. We need to get rid of everyone in Washington and start fresh with men and women who believe in the part of the Constitution that says a government "for the people and by the people" not men and women who believe it a government for me and by me!
