McCain Official Busted on Sex Charge

July 12, 2007 11:33 AM

Mccainofficial_mn An official with the John McCain presidential campaign was arrested for allegedly soliciting oral sex from a policeman in Florida yesterday.

Bob Allen, a member of the Florida House of Representatives, is one of six Florida co-chairs for the Arizona Republican senator's 2008 White House bid.

According to news accounts, local police in Titusville, Fla., arrested Allen Wednesday afternoon after he allegedly offered to exchange $20 for oral sex with the plainclothes officer.

Allen was charged with solicitation to commit prostitution, a misdemeanor.

Allen has said he believes the charges are "a very big misunderstanding" and "disgusting."  If convicted, he could face up to a year in jail and a $500 fine.

McCain's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday morning.

Titusville police told reporters Allen caught their attention after he drove through the town's Veterans Memorial Park twice and went in and out of the park's bathroom three times. On his final trip to the bathroom, a plainclothes officer followed him to investigate. Allen made his solicitation through the door of a men's room stall to the officer, according to police.

McCain named Allen and five other men co-chairs of his Florida campaign in March.

"These men are respected leaders in their communities and have real experience wrestling with the important issues of our day," the Arizona GOP senator said in a press release announcing the appointments.

McCain's presidential ambitions have had trouble of late. With less than $2 million on hand, the campaign lost its manager and chief strategist on Tuesday. McCain has denied the departures were part of a "shake-up."

Allen's arrest is the latest in a small burst of unpleasant mini-scandals for presidential campaigns. Two days ago, the southern regional chairman for former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani's presidential campaign admitted to using a Washington, D.C.-area escort service; three weeks ago, Giuliani's South Carolina co-chair was indicted for cocaine possession. He has pleaded not guilty.

Family values are butterflies. They're pretty and everyone can talk about them, but they are difficult to keep alive for any appreciable length of time.

It was a setup from the word go. The plainclothes officer drove through the town's Veterans Memorial Park twice and went in and out of the park's bathroom three times. What was the plainclothes officer looking for? It was a setup man, it was a setup. It's amazing how the liberal press works, they just turn things around.

LMAO, he's going to be going into treatment for being "gay"and than coming out "saved" lol.....................and is straight again.

The republican party should just have a "treatment" center where they can go and get their "fixed." Instead of doing it like this. lol, what a dummie.

This really isnt an issue. Afterall he wasnt prostituting himself for money. Anyway he is a republican and this is very likely all made up.

Well Bob Allen is right, these charges are disgusting. What makes them disgusting of course is that this guy is a typical, hypocritical Republican who spews hate filled rants against other people's so called immorality while he's the one that's immoral. Now maybe him and others in his party will keep their mouth's shut about other people and worry about themselves.

Posted by: informedone | Jul 12, 2007 1:27:38 PM

So when are these guys going to be prosecuted by the same "moralistic" laws they have shooved on everyone else? Is he going to be listed as a sex offender on the registry for life because of having sex like they are making teenagers do thanks to their "family values" laws?

Hey Ruben go back and READ the story again, it was Allen that cruised the park not the police officer.

ROFLMAO!!!!! This is to much - The Republicans are quickly devolving into late night material for comedians. 20 bucks???? There must have been a sale going on.

Yeah they are just human, right. That is a cop out if I ever heard one.You can vote for people like that if you want to but Im not. What they get caught for is just"the tip of the iceberg".How much are they not getting caught for?Dont make excuses for these people, they take the role of leadership and they should aspire to higher standards,"If you cant take the heat, stay out of the kitchen".

How is this for the Republican Party in 2008: "Who would Jesus Do?"

Posted by: frankfletcher | Jul 12, 2007 1:40:03 PM

Some more of those good ole Republican values.

Why do republicans hate morality? :/

Posted by: BlueJersey | Jul 12, 2007 1:40:16 PM

Do any of you people actually know anything about the candidates? Where are you getting this 'right wing Christian fundamentalist' stuff about McCain? I know it's a lot easier to just group all Republicans together than to do your homework, but wouldn't your criticisms be a little more valid if they were better informed? Maybe you should hope that McCain gets the Republican nomination so the real right-wing candidates don't?

Incidentally, did any of you have the same sarcastic remarks when a certain former President solicited oral sex from an employee right there in the Oval Office????

Posted by: Scott | Jul 12, 2007 1:44:30 PM

What would Jesus do.. WWJD close enough
but what a joke these men are,

Posted by: Seaslew | Jul 12, 2007 1:44:48 PM

Twenty dollars?

Damned Republicans and their low paying "jobs."

Posted by: Mike | Jul 12, 2007 1:45:26 PM

And why was President Clinton impeached by the House?

Posted by: Tyrone | Jul 12, 2007 1:46:17 PM

Dont make excuses for these people,if they cant keep themselves out of trouble while campaigning how do you think behave the rest of the time? This is just an indication of what this man is really like.If you aspire to lead you should also aspire to live by higher standards.Keep in mind these people are in the public eye and set themselves up to be role models for the young people.
