Another Pakistani Defeat as More Soldiers Feared Kidnapped

October 01, 2007 4:36 PM

Habibullah Khan Reports:

Anotherpakista_mnAt least 20 Pakistani Army soldiers are feared kidnapped after armed militants attacked their base in Bannu, a town in the northwest frontier province where many al Qaeda and Taliban-linked groups have been gathering, according to security sources in Pakistan.

Just last month, Osama bin Laden urged his followers to wage jihad against the Pakistani Army and President Pervez Musharraf.

In this latest incident, dozens of militants surrounded the Rocha fort, a paramilitary base on the outskirts of Bannu, which boarders North Waziristan.

Police were dispatched to various suspected areas to search for the missing soldiers.

Pro-Taliban militants kidnapped 11 soldiers last month in the same area. A total of almost 300 soldiers have been kidnapped in recent months. Twenty-six have been released; the remaining are still in captivity, security sources say.

Earlier today a suicide bomber struck in the same city, killing 16 people, including policemen and women, and injuring many others.

Pro-Taliban militants are rapidly bringing most of the tribal areas under their influence and are now starting to bring the settled areas under their influence as well. Thousands of girls stopped going to school in the scenic Swat Valley of the northwest frontier after a school was bombed and local Taliban threatened girls who were attending school.

I really wonder. Where were the soldier's weapons? Did they not have guards out?

Bush shouldn't have outsource the job of getting bin Laden to the Pakistanis. They are never going to get him. The Pakistani army is infiltrated by Al-Quaeda members and sympathizers.

You got to be a M.O.R.O.N if you look at this report and not see that the Pakistanis are doing squat there. I say after bush finishes his presidency were wrap a ribbon on him and give him as a gift to the Pakistanis. They can keep him. No exchange no Refund.

Wearing a uniform may make you look like a warrior, but only training and discipline make a warrior. Al Qaeda has warriors. They may have no sense of decency, but they are still warriors.

What we really have to be very afraid of is what happens when President Musharraf is removed from office or is killed is what happen to the twenty nuclear weapons that he has in his arsenal. These weapons use a very old and outdated Russian failsafe system that can be rigged to explode if taken by force or can be programmed if the soldiers responsible for these weapons goes over to the other side. What happens to the world when these 20 warheads fall into the hands of Osama bin Laden or the Taliban? There are no up-to-date concrete plans to retrieve these weapons and what would Bush do if they got the nukes and placed them all over the US and threaten to blow a city or two if we didn’t get out of Iraq and pay them billions. What are you going to do George? Turn tail and leave your mess for the next president while you & your cronies are soaking it up on the French Rivera!!! What a GOP weenie. Better take Sean – Brown Nose – Hannity & Rush – Phony Soldiers - Limburger with you cause they’ll be your real friends

I believe that you are watching to much 24. Besides if the dems are elected I'm sure they will be able to handle the islamoterrorists right. WRONG, dems are so worried about power and politiacl correctness the are unable to function anymore. Why dont you stop worrying about the war and go back to what you know, making the entire population dependent on gov programs. Leave the fighting to the warriors. When we get the border fence done you should strongly consider living on the other side of said fence. And you can take Al Frankin, Al Gore and the rest of your traitor friends with you.

Sean,

It is amazing to me that people like you come out of the woodwork when there is criticism to do, but don't really step up to the plate when there is actual work to be done. You start frothing at the mouth Rush Limbaugh when someone disagrees with you, not trying to do any real CIVILIZED political dialog. I am a decorated war vet (RVN) AND a Democrat, and proud of both. I hate political correctness, am relatively conservative, pro-gun, and yet violently disagree with the path the Republican party has taken this nation. Don't talk to me about warriors!

Sharpshooter46,
i served in the gulf war and two tours in iraq so I WILL talk to you about warriors. I have more than stepped to the plate for my country. I could care less about lindbaugh. I care about my brothers fighting over there. The problem with you dems is you are more woried about making bush look bad than you are about fighting a war that needs to be faught. the simple fact is when your on the ground over there you would never know that the American people think we are losing. It is the media and people like you that never want to talk about the good that is being done because in some way that would justify bush. And god forbid you disagree with a democrat because that is when the real hate is unleashed.
PS: thanks for your service

Seems to me that Americans on both sides of the political divide are totally missing the point. The
Democrats present no substantive ideas on Iraq and
Afghanistan because they hope to score political points off the war issue, while the Republicans ignore the fact that we are losing the War on Terror because of corrupt contractors, insufficient troop numbers, misguided trust in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan (who were the real powers behind 9/11), etc., etc. Neither party is acting out of true patriotism. By the way, I've spent a lot of time in Afghanistan and Iraq, so I know what I'm talking about.

To all of the previous posters: I see a lot of bitching, but you're all damn short on specific solutions.

So, boys, whatcha gonna do? You can whine about what President Bush has, or has not, done, but Al Qaeda and the Taliban aren't going away so we're going to have to deal with them.

What are your plans? Put your greenbacks where your collective mouths are, or shut the hell up.

And, yeah, I did my time in the Service. 20 years in the Marines and Air Force. I guess that gives me "absolute moral authority" as well, huh?

Isn't it about time we move troops out of IRAQ....and help Pakistan Patrol these Tribal Areas.

Pakistani troops are getting kidnapped and being killed. And some of you idiots still feel that Pakistan is doing nothing to help fight terrorism. I bet those are the people still believe somewhere in Iraq there are WMD's.

Remember when five Screaming Eagles were kidnapped? It's not just a matter of training, but of superior numbers and firepower, and the militants are getting both; arms from Iran and numbers from religio-fanatics. Iran, North Korea, and Sudan are all working on nuclear programs, and there will be a WW3 when they get nukes.
