Worried Bin Laden Urges Iraq Insurgents to 'Unite'

October 22, 2007 2:29 PM

Brian Ross and Rehab El-Buri Report:

Worriedbinlad_mnShowing apparent signs of concern over events in Iraq, al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden urged insurgents to "unite your lines into one" in an audiotape played on al Jazeera Monday.

"Don't be arrogant," bin Laden warned. "Your enemies are trying to break up the jihadi groups. I urge you all to work in one united group."

People familiar with bin Laden's voice say the tape appeared to be authentic, although there was no reference to any event that would indicate when it was recorded.

Bin Laden's message comes at a time when U.S. strategy to split Iraqi insurgent groups from al Qaeda units appears to be working.

"It's always good news when they are divided," said Richard Clarke, the former White House counterterrorism adviser, now an ABC News consultant. "It's reflective that U.S. tactics are having some success."

Saying he was speaking to "everyone in the Muslim community," bin Laden urged "scholars and leaders of the jihad" to take on the role of uniting the groups "right now."

U.S. intelligence officials said they were studying the tape, the third this year from the terror fugitive who is believed to be hiding along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Ah yes another Bin laden tape of his weakness,When will he cease...Maybe we should fly a few bombers into his mudhuts and see what happens or take out his top guy..I mean honestly...11 billion should be spent on taking this guy out instead of the nonsense Bush talks about. We need to end this war, bring our troops home..11 billion could also buy alot of plane tickets to fly into Iraq some night and fly all of our boys home and hand them the broom and say hey clean up your own mess..We're outta here!
Thank you

They're struggling...

Bad news for the democrats. No wonder Nancy Pelosi was trying to cut off our supply routes through Turkey! They are just a nervous about the US winning in Iraq as Osama is.

ABC said "Bin Laden's message comes at a time when U.S. strategy to split Iraqi insurgent groups from al Qaeda units appears to be working." ~~ i am very happy that you finally admit the surge is working. Its about time you pull your liberal self out of your own patute.

Doesn't anyone find this tape coming out at a convenient time?! It just so happens that Bush is asking for another $42 billion for this war...

The only unity Osama will be seeing is the unity of America in defeating him and his Al Qaeda organization.

Posted by: James | Oct 22, 2007 3:00:49 PM

Let them all come together to plan their "unity", and we'll take them all out at one time!

This is bad news for democrats. They have been trying to defeat the US in Iraq for just as long as Osama has. Nancy Pelosi almost cut off our supply lines in Turkey. I'm sure between her and Osama, they thought the US would be an easy take down, but that turned out not to be the case and it seems that things are getting better in Iraq and that is unacceptable to the terrorists and democrats.

I guess ABC did'nt have a choice but run this story. I'm sure they will give Hillary credit for Bin Laden being worried

It is about time that the media reports what is going on in Iraq....Al Qaeda is getting their butts kicked by the USA and the Iraqi people.

We will leave Iraq a much better place than when we came there, and we will have a valuable ally in the Middle East. They will be a great partner ecomnomically and strategically for us in the region.

The Quran (Arabic: القرآن al-qur'ān; show me where it is written to kill your neighbor or bomb a building because you have differences with your neighbor. Do not live in Fear! Women of the world are tired of losing their fathers, brothers, uncles, sons, brother-in-laws, wives, husbands, aunts, nieces, grandparents, sisters, cousins, and children all because of the arrogance of Osama Bin Laden and politicans. It is not right to harm anyone - Peace is an option.

Wouldn't it be great if they all united for peace instead of war? It is so sad what they're doing to each other... so many innocent people have lost their lives and families have been destroyed. I'm about to lose my father to cancer, but my misery pales in comparison to what the average Iraqi has gone through in the past 4 years. Islamic or not, my heart goes out to the human suffering that is undeniable. I really hope someone comes out from within the arab community preaching of peace and nonviolent resistance.

It would be nice if we could all agree that this is good news in the war on terror and stop saying liberal this and republican that. I know we have problems but we could get alot more accomplished in this war and in this nation if we would stop being so devisive and destructive politically. Maybe if we had real leadership in the legislative and executive branch of the government more americans would relize this.

Posted by: Baraka | Oct 22, 2007 4:00:16 PM

This does create some interesting political scenarios for both parties and may help many to undersatnd the rush to create friction with Turkey. For now I suggest that the adults in charge of the U.S. military move to close AQ out in Iraq and do the same in Afganistan. The political debate should be interesting along with the suggestion of treason by some leaders.

Terrorists will have to confront the rapid development of small Arabian states setting up centers of luxury and pride that will overshadow anything man made so far. How they try to confront this development will be shown to their supporters and could be a double edge sword. Will they try to destroy a source of proud achievement for their society or live with it and lose their credibility and support ?

Why isn't finding this guy a priority? It burns me up every time I see his face in the news. I still believe that finding Bin Laden and killing or capturing him would be a huge blow to terrorism worldwide. I recognize that no one man creates or sustains the scourge that terrorism is. However, success should be measured at the center of the target, not at the edges. Let's renew our man-hunt for Bin Laden.

762 stories about how it the war is being runinto the dumpers, how the insurgents have fled to outside towns to wait out the surge, hundreds of people killed and not shown or reported, buildings collapsing, still no running water or electric 5 years later (almost) and these pathetic elephants latch onto 2 or 3 stories about how its getting better. You people would believe ANY thing that dork says from Aliens eating PB and Jelly Sandwiches to Snakes that talk and Arks loaded with Dinosaurs 6K years ago. 33% of you will NEVER EVER EVER EVER change your mind no matter WHAT evidence you get. NEVER. Yes, one story better 15,000 awful and its a landslide of success. Vote folks. In droves, vote like your life depends on it. But the majority won't listen or even pay attention to small details. It just not "that inportant".

There are many parallels for these actions throughout history. Which you ask? Go seek and ye shall find...

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that alot of what's going on now has connections to past actions in history.

[1] Who - if any of you - want to challenge Iran's statement that if "they are shown in harm's way, they can set off 11,000 nukes in only a few minutes". You can be the "body counter".
[2] No one [except Bush and Cheney and their instep followers] can say with truth and accuracy that Iran even has a nuclear weapon ready for use - now or in the future, at any time evident. The inspectors have repeatedly stated they "don't know if Iran has nuclear - and if they do no one knows where the nuclear is stored". So what is the objective of an air-strike by Israel or U.S. when the target is not known - and if known, it is a gamble if U.S. or Israel has a device or method of taking the "target" out.
[3] There is not now or there is nothing factual as to "what country will allow the air base from which to launch the strike. Russia has an agreement from the immediate countries that their countries will not be used for such a base.
[4] Think: All of the rhetoric [and that is the whole nine-yards being relied upon] comes from the Bush Crew - the Military - in the most part - think a military excursion with Iran is not the smartest brain stroke that Bush and Olemert have yet concocted. They - both in conjuction with Bush's desire to conquer Iran - have completed plans for the invasion but they can't muster enough support to carry the struggle to the front.
[5] Anyone thinking the "invasion of Iran is a bright-brillian-thought to be pursued, may think the event is just a walk in the park. If so, you had better pack your tent - you may find yourself attempting to survive in the desert after the smoke clears.

It is purely unreasonable that any smart person or group of people could sincerely beleive that if the invasion occurrs --IRAN IS GOING TO PARK ON IT'S KEESER AND WATCH THE SHOW. Experts have attempted to warn those with solid thoughts of extermination that they may get their wish within 24 hours after the first run-through.

If annilation or extermination is your game - you might consider cutting the event yourself and do a leap off the tallest structure you can find. Everyone can watch the silliest of silly acts.

D. Evans, I doubt you're going to get much change on Bush. Now progressives are working as hard as possible to defeat the US in Iraq with their domestic propaganda insurgency and the terrorists are doing everything they can in Iraq. Remember this, progressives call terrorists "Freedom Fighters" whereas Bush and our military are called the terrorists. You can see with logic like that, why they are trying to defeat us.

This is bad news for Republicans. They still can't catch this guy. All the military bluster we have can't get it done. I don't think BushCo want to catch him. You can then extrapolate the whole plot from that fact.

Posted by: JB | Oct 22, 2007 7:23:30 PM

They can't get Bin Laden after six years? He looks in the photo like he's quite healthy and happy. Why is he so difficult to find? He owes us a huge sum of money. It should be enough to cover the Iraq tab.

Posted by: Cindi | Oct 22, 2007 7:39:44 PM

There have been others who have been hunted down and found hiding in desperate circumstances. Remember what Saddam looked like when he was caught? Bin Laden doesn't look desperate, for sure. He looks fat and happy. Who is taking care of him and protecting him? Have to wonder.

When bin laden put out tapes in the past the left did not question it, but because bin laden actually admitted on this tape that his insurgencey is losing, again the left some how blames the president for doctoring the tape. It does not matter if we see some good coming out of the war they are convinced that the president is more evil than bin laden. I was also amazed that abc reported some good news from fallujah, you must be getting your talking points from the President (of course that's what the left would say)

In the history of wars, I believe the intention is to win the war. This is because prior efforts(diplomatic etc has failed). Therefore in the interest
of economics which is a main factor that
fuel a war, we should engage the new"enola gay" in Afganistan(end of poppies) and most of the radical middle-east countries(Iran).Hey
the Japanese respect eye for an eye.Sounds callous, but the war itself is.The longer it last, the more we subject ourself to disunity & foreign expenditures- This is a fast & efficient method(we spend years to develop defence weapons-now is the time to use it.Spend the US money on the US taxpayers, and give generously to the poor African kids, even some to your Canadian neighbors.By the way,as per statistics, all muslims(they have a history of evolving from dumb wars(too bad some are genunine)emmigrating to NORTH AMERICA should not be given visas.Let's protect
North America. The middle-east society his still to evolve, and those who appear to are mere copycats-not the real thing.Save the American troops from unnecessary weariness.

Again, hitting their missle sites and uranium processors is not enough. That would send the wrong message.
We either take 'em out completely or we'll lose about 200,000 troops in a period of about eight weeks. How many troops are in the Iranian Republican army. Plus, what about the muslims who are 'on-the-fence and will join force with their radical friends?I don't know the total manpower we would be looking at but it is probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 million all told.
Instead of cutting the snakes head off,we will probably just take out their nuke capabilities. That would be a mistake! We need to level that place completely and set up house over there as the new owner. If we don't send a message by guting all of Iran,we'll be in trouble quick. We'd re-instate the draft but it would be too late. If I remember right, the last time we mut major heat on a nation, others stepped lightly around us for about 40 years. Hit them. Hit them now.And hit them HARD.

This whole thing is about money. I live in the CIS and see corruption running everything. Stop the money flow and you will stop the fighting, religious or no. Drugs are used to fund wars, money is diverted from the national treasures to pay for hugh homes and expensive cars for corrupt officials. One dictator kills a thousand citizens because they are protesting his leadership. That is not too bad, he could have killed more. If he will allow us to develope his oilfields, a thousand dead is not that bad a price. We should issue him and his family a visa so he does not have to smell the results of what he has created. He may even throw us a few bills if we lick his boots. What has happened to us??? Where did we lose our national pride?? We spend billion even trillions on countries that will sell us down the river as soon as they get a better offer, and they will. Why are we doing this?? OIL,OIL, OIL. I would be willing to park my car for a few days, carpool or walk or take the subway. I am not sure if national pride even exist in America anymore. Are you???

All the comments here are very interesting. Venting helps the individual making the comment. But, overall, it does not do much good unless there is the intent of commitment behind it.
Think of it as getting married or enlisting in a cause. One believes that the marriage or the cause is worthy so they tend to put more of their energy into it, to make it better - this is not that much different.

Onward:

The largest word in any written or spoken language is what?
Can you guess what the word is?
No?

The largest word in human existence is...

IF

The use of this word means what?

IF we could find him, we would (provided we are looking in the right place). IF we could nuke them we would (provided we wouldn't die from the experience). IF we ASKED someone to do it for us (we assume) they would (provided they wouldn't turn on us and do the same to us).

Isn't the word IF just marvelous?

True, we could do this or do that, but would we? Should we? Really?
Think about what is being said and what is being conveyed when reading these comments (or anything else).

History teaches us many things - don't ingore it.

We have been fighting a Holy War for near 2 thousand years. Chistian and Muslim. It has never stopped. It never will as long as there are people who want it to continue.

Does this (or anything else that happens) have to do with money? ALWAYS. This will never change as long as the human experience clings to power as a small child clings to its mother.

Unless...

You have to draw your own conclusions (as do we all) on everything, no one can (should) think for you...

We all want our freedom. We all want it to continue. We all actually want and need more freedom(s).

Dims make me laugh with their bumper sticker logic. They are such cowards they can only muster the courage to fight their own countrymen. The surge is working, the war is being won, the terrorists are on the run and in twenty years it will be obvious that Bush Cheney and the American military were right and all the arm chair generals and Dim turncoats were wrong. Their arrogance in the way they refer to our President and treat their fellow citizens is unprecedented and will be long remembered. Just ask Jane Fonda!

Posted by: Brian | Oct 23, 2007 4:11:42 PM

I guess everything Bush is doing is now working. Iraq is now a peaceful place or soon will be. The surge was a great success. Violence is almost over there. People are now happy in Iraq. The Iraqis are coming over to the side of the US.

Is all that now true?

So, when the US "wins" in Iraq, what exactly will that mean? What will we win? Can anyone be specific?

Actually, a comparison of Osama's face in recent video to that of several years ago indicates he's aged considerably. This is an indication of several things--first, that the recent tapes are genuine, since face changing is hard to doctor, and second, that the GWOT is not going well for Osama. But Bush has been fighting Qaeda and the Democrats since just after 9/11, and it appears he's won so far. Killing Osama would just turn him into a martyr. Having him cry about how badly it's going for him is better than him being dead.

Remember MISSION ACCOMPLISHED? This war has gone on before christianity. The party in control has control...until the other party over takes them with force.'Winning is not gonna happen!!!Do you think we will leave there one day and there will be a democratic government in Iraq. You,and two more people believe that. Not happening!!!!

Brian, you and your exalted President have redefined our goal in Iraq at least 4 times...WMD, Regime Change, Safe for Elections, eliminate Al Qaida in Iraq. Bush was strutting around on the deck of our aircraft carrier, off the now burning coast of California, proclaiming victory before Al Qaida even went to Iraq. Bush hasn't yet put our money where his mouth was after Katrina, OBL is still safe and alive in Pakistan, Bush won't bomb a Syrian reactor unless he can spread radiation, Bush won't fight PKK terrorists in Iraq who are attacking our Turkish allies, and now Bush wants us to give him another 43,000 million (that's how many millions are in 43 billion) depreciated U.S. dollars to fritter away. You say all this is keeping you safe and to heck with health care for American vets and kids?

"It is about time that the media reports what is going on in Iraq"

Oh, I see, journalists are only telling the "truth" when they're reporting what you consider to be good news about Iraq. When they report the bad stuff they're lying or slanted. Do you idiots hear yourselves talking?

Bin Laden is right about Iraqi's uniting, they are uniting against the extremists. This is why the surge is working.

WILLIAM J CLEMONS , in response to you, I respond:

1) Yes, I will challenge it. Produce 11,000 nukes undetected throughout the world. Allah will love you for destroying the planet. Go Ahead, make my day. At least they won't be able to make more weapons that are currently killing our troops in Iraq. (fact-based).
2) Your first and second points are self-conflicting and contradictory.
Yes, America possesses weapons capable of the destruction of such targets.

Your commies are acknowledging the existence of such weapons.

3) We do not require the use of another country to utilize these weapons. That is why we have mid-air refuelers. We can launch said strikes from stealth bombers carrying special munitions and refuel them anywhere in the world before your pizza gets delivered. Believe it.

4 and 5)The potential incursion into Iran whether it is airborne or ground based, is an operation that military brass are reluctant to carry out ONLY due to the strains it will put on a heavily tasked logistical system, weakened by President Clinton in his days or reducing the military. The prevention of Iran's further involvement in the nuclear stage is so vital as to ensure the continued existence of democracy, let alone life on Earth as you know it, and will have to be carried out someday since the Iranians refuse to play ball.
As I have been subjected to rocket attack by Iranian rockets, I think I am entitled to say that I support such actions in the interest of preserving life across the PLANET! I have my tent, and I also am trying to make a difference amongst a people who want change. I am doing something, instead of armchair QBing like you! Why don't you enlist? Make a difference!
