Giuliani's Mistress Used N.Y. Police as Taxi Service
November 29, 2007 3:18 PM
Well before it was publicly known he was seeing her, then-married New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani provided a police driver and city car for his mistress Judith Nathan, former senior city officials tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com.
"She used the PD as her personal taxi service," said one former city official who worked for Giuliani.

New York papers reported in 2000 that the city had provided a security detail for Nathan, who became Giuliani's third wife after his divorce from Donna Hanover, who also had her own police security detail at the same time.

The former city officials said Giuliani expanded the budget for his security detail at the time. Politico.com reported yesterday that many of the security expenses were initially billed to obscure city agencies, effectively hiding them from oversight.
The former officials told ABCNews.com the extra costs involved overtime and per diem costs for officers traveling with Giuliani to secret weekend rendezvous with Nathan in the fashionable Hamptons resort area on Long Island.
When the New York City comptroller began to question the accounting, Mayor Giuliani's office declined to provide details to city security, officials told ABCNews.com today.
"The Comptroller's Office made repeated requests for the information in 2001 and 2002 but was informed that due to security concerns the information could not be provided," a spokesperson for the comptroller's office said.
Appearing in public for the first time today, Giuliani told ABC News the accusations he assigned a police security detail to his mistress and helped to hide the expenses in the mammoth New York City budget "a pre-debate hit job."
"I'm sorry, but I still don't understand why they filed these expenses the way they did," he said.
Former officials close to Giuliani say he had "zero" to do with how the police security expenses for Judith Nathan, who he since married, were accounted in the city budget.
The Giuliani campaign said it would also provide a former deputy mayor, Randy Mastro, to respond to the allegations later today.

Getting a perfectly consensual hummer from an intern is one thing, having the secret service act as her personal limousine service afterward would have been something else entirely.
Clinton's scandals seems positively silly compared to the flagrant abuse of power and contempt for the taxpayer on display here.

America was stupid enought to elect Slick Willie - TWICE so what's the fuss about? At least Rudy wasn't caught in the White House or Mayors Office. It's beginning to be a pre-requisite to qualifying for president of the U.S. - if you haven't committed adultery you can't run. Somehow the Bush men got in, amazing isn't it?

He was corrupt then and now also - just ask his family (wife, daughter and son) how evil this man that you (the media) want to be president is, but you wanted George Bush also - see what he has done to us poor people.

John D Infidel - please tell me you lived in NY during that time.
When he got elected I choose to move to New Jersey.

What's the issue? Did you expect the babe to walk?

How much did Bill Clinton's mistress Monica cost the taxpayers? Bill Clinton set the moral standards for us. Who cares about Rudy's escapades?

Ruh-roh Rudy!! And its just beginning!!!
Posted by: Marc | Nov 29, 2007 4:31:26 PM
mistresses get police protection, too? did Monica get a Secret Service contingent? I doubt it... would Republicants have raised a stink if she did? you bet!

The GOP doesn't even HAVE a candidate. The conservative base will not come out in droves to support either of the top contenders (due to their support of RoevWade, their corruption, etc). Reagan called this the Republican "shame" that keeps conservatives home on election day. The Dems come out in full force and they take the White House in '08.

First it was Bernie and Judith Regan. Now Rudy is in on the act.Where is Kenneth Starr when we need him?

Is there no one left in the United States that is actually honest, trustworthy and gives a damn about the US citizens? I wish all the canditates would fall into a swirling vacumn and dissapear from the radar...All of them have money, power and connections. Why doesn't someone worthy stand up. Hell at this point, I would take Lou Dobbs over them all!

I know I speak for at least a million voters of the conservative base. If Guilliani is the nominee, we are bolting and will actively support a 3rd party run by a moral and fiscal Reagan conservative.
For now, watch Mike Huckabee. He's my man. I Like Mike!

Gary Hart, all over again.
Posted by: Louis The Moron
There was no corruption or diversion of taxpayer funds. You meant Clinton all over again, and the american public didn't care about that, either.
A Gallup Poll found that nearly two-thirds (64%) of the U.S. respondents it surveyed thought the media treatment of Hart was "unfair." A little over half (53%) responded that marital infidelity had little to do with a president's ability to govern.

Wow, Romney comes under heat for his religion, yet Giuliani is leading a polygamist life with two "wives" under security, simultaneously.
Posted by: bill henry | Nov 29, 2007 4:35:49 PM
so let me get this straight we can impeach a guy about lying about a BJ and point to that and call him a mockery of a President, but Had he been a republican it would have been cool. Especially if he'd had the secret service drive her home after??
Posted by: Louis | Nov 29, 2007 4:36:03 PM
what cost us about Slick Willie's BJ was the cost of the investigation and impeachment, what party started that???.
Posted by: Louis | Nov 29, 2007 4:37:35 PM
Mr. and Mrs. Giuliani (all of them) even make the Clintons' marriage look like a model of virtue and fidelity!

How about following up on the connected and even more egregious allegation? That pre-9/11 Rudy moved the NYC Emergency Command center next in the WTC7 - which had already been the subject of one terrorist attack - so that it would be within walking distance of the Mayor's office, and so that Rudy & Judith could used the office like a cheap motel?
The result of letting little Rudi doing all the thinking was that the Emergency Control Center was useless on 9/11.

What happened to "America's Mayor"? Isn't he a man who prides himself on being on top of everything and in the know? If he can't explain the accounting of his personal expenses on the city's tab, how does he think that he's equipped to be president?
Posted by: Brooklynite | Nov 29, 2007 4:38:48 PM
Guiliani did a great job as Mayor of New York. What he did after work doesn't concern me. Nevertheless, he was required to have a 24/7 security detail. He had no choice in the matter. How the NYPD accounted for the costs was not under Guiliani's direct control and he should not bear the blame for sloppy accounting on the part of some clerk in NY City government.
Do any of you really think Guiliani micro-managed every aspect of NY City government? I think that he had bigger issues to worry about than to what account his security detail's expenses should be billed. This is just more ineffective pre-election dirt dished up by his political opponents.
