Al Qaeda Releases New Recording

December 14, 2007 8:32 AM

A new al Qaeda communique featuring Al-Qaeda's number-two man was released on the internet Friday morning.

References to last month's peace conference in Annapolis indicate the recording is recent. The message, in Arabic, has not yet been fully translated, but early analysis indicates it contains fulminations about Mideast leaders' positions expressed at the late November event.

Experts have authenticated the tape and confirmed the voice belongs to Zawahiri. It was released by As Sahab, the terror group's propaganda operation.

The recording – audio over a still photomontage showing images of Zawahiri, Bush and Middle Eastern leaders – is 20 minutes, two seconds long.

Al Zawahiri was last featured on an As Sahab release in early November, in an audio statement with an al Qaeda field commander.  In September, al Qaeda released a videotape of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

Bin is dead. They always show other people and probably his look alike. If the man is such a great terrorist leader then why does he not show up in person. He preaches for others (followers) to die for who? Him?

Posted by: Jim Rod | Dec 14, 2007 9:02:16 AM

It is so nice that Zawahiri finds the Annapolis meeting so interesting.

He is of course jealous that he was not invited, and frankly annoyed that the Arab leaders completely ignored him and his request that they do not attend.

Their timing is getting better though isn't it, just in time for America's breakfast television. And the day after the Taliban lost their last foothold in Helmand province.

Posted by: Chris | Dec 14, 2007 9:09:57 AM

rod----isn't that what GW is doing? he preaches for others to die for who? him!

Posted by: rob | Dec 14, 2007 9:20:18 AM

It appears as if Bin is dead. Why can't these losers get a video recorder? Then we can see who is really making these recordings.

Posted by: Sing | Dec 14, 2007 9:27:31 AM

Ha Rob,

I don't believe GW authorized the war by himself, did he? Just another crazy liberal living on propaganda instead of the truth.

Posted by: chad | Dec 14, 2007 9:32:48 AM

chris

you obviously do not watch american breakfast tv. it is personalities not news, they cover entertainment, light hearted stuff and britney spear's. this wasn't even mentioned today.

Posted by: leo Mileman | Dec 14, 2007 9:34:19 AM

Come on Rob, Things are a bit more complicated than Bush wanting to have people die for him, Don't you think? I know what side I'm on, How about you?

Posted by: KT | Dec 14, 2007 9:34:57 AM

President Bush doesn't hide in caves. bin Laden knows if he sticks his head out, we will take it off.

Posted by: JS | Dec 14, 2007 9:40:56 AM

Rob - American soldiers fight, and sometimes die for our freedom to live in our society.
Taliban and al Qaeda fighters fight and die to kill as many of us (soldier or civilian) as they can, in the name of bringing islamic rule to as many countries as they possibly can.

Posted by: Joe | Dec 14, 2007 9:41:11 AM

rob----there is a distinction. bush is trying to protect our country. obl is trying to destroy our country and way of life. equating one with the other is sick. if you hate your country so much, why not move to canada?

Posted by: Steve | Dec 14, 2007 9:42:49 AM

Chris, actually the answer to your question is no. I'm going to throw out a concept that might be hard for you to understand because it's obivious your hatred for GW clouds your judgement. I think GW is asking people to die for their country.

Posted by: James | Dec 14, 2007 9:46:34 AM

ROB, You need to e-mail your congress person and tell them to stop letting people die for them!! The DEM congress has the power to stop this now. Why are they cowing down? Its easy to bash bush I agree but you are also miss informed and need to bash Polosi and her cronies that pretend to care for you. You are a victim of their national bash campain of this administration to cover the DEMs tracks of being incompetent pork barrel seeking thiefs.

Posted by: Jim Rod | Dec 14, 2007 9:51:29 AM

So when a president comes into office who does not espouse the precepts of war and death, then can you get over it and focus on your real enemy, rob?

Posted by: Jazz | Dec 14, 2007 9:51:57 AM

NO Chris they die so idiots like you can post freely on sites like this!

Posted by: Mike | Dec 14, 2007 9:52:30 AM

No, for country, Rob. Not for "him".

Bush will be back in Texas in 2009 overseeing his large fortune which was accumulated long before he was President.
He personally gains nothing when a soldier dies.

Posted by: Brad | Dec 14, 2007 9:53:31 AM

Osama may be dead The last video from Osama was very Weekend at Bernies-esque.

The audio however was put together better than the last Chef episode of South Park though. Rock on GWB.

GW is saying fight for our country, yet he also says we are fighting for their country. Bin says fight for Allah.

Posted by: Pat | Dec 14, 2007 10:02:32 AM

rob, um, no. George W Bush asks his guys to go over there and kill terrorists who blow up civilians, then come home when the job is done. The Zawahiris of the the world ask their guys to fly jets into buildings and blow themselves up in markets. What a sick party you Bush-snivelers have become...."honestly" (ignorantly) equating the two.

Posted by: Dave B | Dec 14, 2007 10:05:56 AM

I agree with Jim, Osama bin Laden's dead and has been for quite awhile. These terrorists are idiots following idiots. Can you really imagine a world that would give in to these people.

Americanize them and calle them the mafia, then you can understand that they are nothing but a bunch of criminal thugs and their end is in sight.

Posted by: gordon | Dec 14, 2007 10:07:12 AM

Be real... Osama incites religious fervor and extremism in order to destroy western "culture" and to coerce people into becoming Muslim. Using volunteers, children, hostages, and terror strikes against innocent people

GW leads the fight against a murderous madman using a religion to strive for world domination in the name of Allah. Using volunteers that are are fighting for our way of life and freedom from religious oppression and dictatorship.

Posted by: Random | Dec 14, 2007 10:07:13 AM

To paraphrase Gen. Patton, a soldier’s duty isn't to die for his country but to make the other guy die for his.
Bin Laden and his crew recruit people to become suicide bombers to kill innocent civilians and soft military targets. They are non-government entities trying to wage asymmetrical warfare for their ideology. They were fighting us for over ten years before we responded.
Yes, a lot of the world doesn't like the US. But some of those that hate us need to learn that you don't pull on Superman's cape, you don't pull the mask off the ol' Lone Ranger and you DON'T mess around with Uncle Sam.

Posted by: Jeff | Dec 14, 2007 10:07:19 AM

Posted by: emm | Dec 14, 2007 10:11:48 AM

Bin Laden & Bush are long time friends & business partners. osama is alive and well, ask the government why the three times they had Osama in the sights of a rifle the White House instructed our snipers to stand down.

Posted by: Truth | Dec 14, 2007 10:12:35 AM

Posted by: al | Dec 14, 2007 10:25:30 AM

It seems Bush's actions have removed the Taliban, removed Saddam and Uday, caused Libya to give up it's fearsome WMD stockpile, forced Iran to stop their nuke progam, destroyed Al Qaeda in Iraq...hmmm. The Iraq war has been won...time to face that fact. God help us if demo amateurs take over next year. We've all gotten to feel pretty safe since 9/11 with Bush -- his hard policies have stopped every single attack in the U.S. since 9/11.

Rob, President Bush hasn't asked anyone to die...for him, for our country, or for anyone else. What he did is he sent our military to fight for our national security. Period. He didn't ask anyone to die. Yes, some have died in the process, but that is not what Bush wanted. Come on, use your head and think. If you don't like the war (and none of us do), at least blame the people who are responsible for starting it. You can thank bin Laden first. These people attacked us in the most diabolical attack in world history. If it hadn't been for them, we would never have gone to war in Afghanistan or Iraq. It is not Bush's fault that these freaks attacked us, but once they did, it was his duty to respond. Quit blaming him. Even the Democrats in Congress had enough sense at the time to support him. It is sad that so many in this country have now gone yellow and turned coward and turned against our president at this time. Get a clue, Rob!

Why is it that ABC is ALWAYS the first to report a new tape? Check the facts, and then re-ask yourself why. Could it be that this 'story' is being funneled through because they're a conduit of governmental misinformation? President Bush has led this nation from a devastating attack to greater security. In the process he has freed millions, deposed tyrants, and has crushed tyranny. Our soldiers have done a magnificent job.

Looking back, the only thing to be ashamed of has been the liberal Congress that through its actions has prolonged this effort. They tried to lose the Iraq war and they failed.

Well done Mr. President!

Matter if fact, Al Qaida is not interested in destroying the western world.
Al Qaida's goal is liberating the Middle Easts western backed (hence the attacks on New York, Madrid, London, etc.) dictators like the Saoudi's, Egyptian dictator Mubarak and previously Saddam (they offered Kuwait support fighting Saddam in the early '90s, but Kuwait prefered US support).

A majority of people on this list have said that U.S. soldiers are fighting to preserve "our way of life" or the "American tradition." You don't get it do you. Our soldiers are supposed to be in Iraq and Afghanistan to preserve THEIR way of life, their culture, and to stop religious extremism. If these missions also bring democracy to the nations, so be it. Democracy does not and should not mean Americanism. I mean, we have our own political problems and ineptitude.

I highly doubt that most liberals even know who Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are. For if they did, they wouldn't be liberals. The Democratic leadership in this country is a joke. If these leaders would have acted this way 100 years ago, they would have been hanged on the lawn of the White House.

When they cry the war is lost, it makes me believe that they'd sell out America just to advance their political party.

That is a scarry thought.

Doug: How did Iraq imminently threaten our national security in 2003? There was no evidence of WMD's, no link of financial or tactical support between Saddam & OBL, no gliders that could rain down WMD's on the populace. Basically all of Saddam's statements around the time were braggadoccio to keep the Ianian Mullahs from picking another fight with him. We went to war in Iraq based on the power mad delusions of Chalahbi, bad unverifiable inel that they got poor Powell to sell to the UN, an Iranian emmigrant in Germany who told a lot of unverifiable stories to get his asylum, and rumour of yellow cake purchase.

The evidence would not even make a good court case never mind a reason to pre-emptively strike a sovereign nation.

The no-fly zone violations and shooting at our aircraft scenario happened a couple of times in GHWB & Clinton's tenure & there was no push to remove Saddam from power again with a full blown invasion.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. - John Stewart Mill

Since the CIA was instrumental in setting up the muhajadeen (al-qaida) in the 1970's and 1980's...when EXACTLY did they stop working for the CIA and turn against us? Since the Bush family was meeting with the Bin Laden family ON the morning of 9/11, how EXACTLY does Osama fit into the picture? It looks as if al-qaida is a political intrument of our own government's creation, the proverbial "bad guy" that brings all of "us" in America together to fight against "them", all the while our own government takes our freedoms away. The same exact scenario has happened over and over again in history, most recently in Nazi Germany. Wake up people!

"getting old"? What world do you live in?

"Now it is true that I believe this country is following a dangerous trend when it permits too great a degree of centralization of governmental functions. I oppose this - in some instances the fight is a rather desperate one. But to attain any success it is quite clear that the Federal government cannot avoid or escape responsibilities which the mass of the people firmly believe should be undertaken by it. The political processes of our country are such that if a rule of reason is not applied in this effort, we will lose everything - even to a possible and drastic change in the Constitution. This is what I mean by my constant insistence upon "moderation" in government. Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are H. L. HUNT (you possibly know his background), A FEW OTHER OIL MILLIONAIRES, and an occasional politician or business man from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid.." ~~ Pres. If we were 100% serious about our war on terror, we would not be continuing the Clinton objective of prying a province (Kosovo) away from a (historically) Christian U.S. ally, in order to hand it to Al Quaeda-connected Muslim terrorists (KLA).

And why does Joe Liebermann accept large monetary contributions from these pro-Al Quaeda Albanians?

These are the questions neither liberals nor conservatives seem interested in asking or answering. If we would be united and consistent in our war on terror, we would prevail. I hope we do despite our doublemindedness. A world where (a) homosexual sex and (b) converting from Islam to another faith are both punishable by death, is not the world we want our children to live in.

For all of you that oppose the war... you should thank vets like me for preserving your freedom of speech so you can voice your opinion. Where did all the love & pride for our country go after 9/11? It is sad to watch all of us fighting amongst ourselves. I love my country. USA all the way

If we could only get some "moderate" Muslims to help us. Dream on, dream on, RightStuff.

Have you noticed Bin Laden hasn't aged in years? Not a line in his face. Anybody know how old he is? I believe he's dead.

No matter who is in charge it never works. The Dems have done JACK! Ya got Al Gore complaining about global warming! Ghee...who was in the #2 seat in the Whitehouse for how many years?
Bush can't start his own war! He gets an "OK" then calls it.
bin Laden is a punk schoolyard thug. He can't be much if one of his main guys is from Orage County CA. Like his people know anything other than to blow themselves up for him. Pretty soon they will all have blown themselves up and only the smart ones will be left. Then THEY will "off" him for us.
You can't soar with Eagles when you're flying with buzzards. Bush sadly roosted with buzzards.

This is old news...Al Queda is just upset that no one is listening to them anymore. In the world where you either lead, follow or get out of the way..they are just fading into the mist....or cave or where ever they are living now...

BTW (referring to my earlier post), in addition to being a war hero & a decent fellow, Eisenhower was a moderate Republican...before they began to go extinct.

Another quote pertinent to the instigators of our current national chaos:

"Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men's views confided to me privately. Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the field of commerce and manufacture, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere -- so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive -- that they better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it." ~ Woodrow Wilson, The New Freedom, 1913

The USA is wasting too much on an exaggerated threat. All that happens is that new terrorists relocate to more militant Islamic nations and feed into less militant ones. The answer is education not bombs.

"Ghee...who was in the #2 seat in the Whitehouse for how many years?"

Gee...& WHO was in charge of the Congress during that time? And.... WHY were the Republicans AGAINST fighting terrorism??? THEY are the Real American Traitors!

In 1996, Gore made proposals to fight air terrorism but the Republican controlled Congress fought it!

"GORE ANNOUNCES PROPOSALS TO FIGHT AIR TERRORISM", September 5, 1996
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A $300 million budget for counter-terrorism measures, better screening of airline passengers, and more teams of bomb-sniffing dogs were among the measures Vice President Al Gore recommended Thursday to boost airport security.

"PRESIDENT WANTS SENATE TO HURRY WITH NEW ANTI-TERRORISM LAWS", July 30, 1996
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Clinton urged Congress Tuesday to act swiftly in developing anti-terrorism legislation before its August recess.

But while the president pushed for quick legislation, Republican lawmakers hardened their stance against some of the proposed anti-terrorism measures.
