Guess Who's Not Going to Tonight's CIA Christmas Party
December 06, 2007 6:03 PM
The bombshell report by the New York Times' Mark Mazzetti on the CIA's destruction of the tapes showing the interrogations of al Qaeda suspects came just hours before the CIA's annual Christmas party, to which the reporters who cover intelligence issues are invited.
Given the major breaking story, it's not likely Mazzetti will be attending, although the CIA says he was invited. No members of the ABC News Investigative Unit received invitations.
The CIA pre-empted Mazetti's scoop Thursday afternoon by putting out a statement CIA Director Michael Hayden sent to all CIA employees, revealing the tapes had been destroyed and that members of the press were about to report it.

"Director Hayden feels strongly that it is important to keep CIA employees fully informed of events and developments that affect them," CIA spokesperson Mark Mansfield said. "The director wanted CIA's employees to know about it before they read it in tomorrow's papers."
According to Mazzetti's story posted on the New York Times Web site, the Times told the CIA on Wednesday evening that it planned to publish the story on Friday morning. When reporters alert government agencies about stories that could affect national security, the general understanding, as we have practiced it, is that the agencies will not give the material to other reporters.
The CIA's Mansfield says that is his understanding too, but that in this case, other reporters became aware of the Times' story and called for reaction. That, said Mansfield, led the CIA to post the director's statement on its Web site and to distribute it to reporters.
For reporters who do attend tonight's taxpayer-funded Christmas party in the CIA's main lobby, there will be plenty of questions to get answered amid a full range of food and beverages.
Do you have a tip for Brian Ross and the Investigative Team?

The video tapes that were destroyed by the CIA were part of the offical record. By destroying these tapes the CIA has left a gapping hole in the offical record. They knew exactly what they were doing. In situations like this a do not destroy notice is sent out that is meant to protect and preserve the offical record, they subverted that process.

The CIA will be celebrating getting away with more than Torture tonight. Beside Xmas they will be full of cheer for getting away with Perjury to Federal Judges and Congress, along with Obstruction of Justice, and Destruction of Evidence, and who knows what was actually on that tape. The tape could of shown Rape, Sodomny, Waterboarding, Electrocution, attack dogs, and so much more. I doubt Cheney and Rummy have given up their copies, the ones they use to get excited.
Step aside Nancy, let Dennis K file his Articles of Impeachment and turn Conyers loose. It's past time. No more excuses.

News...ABC You have done pretty good bringing light on the audacity of government officials to empower themselves within the sanctuary that because of holding office has given them the power to be Kings amongst pulpers...We now in America have been given a reflection of what lawmakers on capital hill call the truth..Maybe you should take a national poll as to who should represent each News Cast to cover all and every party, every office meeting that dictates to the welfare of the people's rights...Communism fed lies to the people..we need the news good and bad so we can see where Washington is sending our men for the party! For while our men are overseas fighting an endless war..we can only hold on to the news to help us do for them, and see that no soldier gets left in the cold...Take a National Poll..Our government has dug a whole for us and that is why everything is not black and white..Military has strung each other to show and tell this President the truth and yet we have been mamed and lost..We need to always be aware of what is happening and to what degree the world at large is receiving our governement..Protecting our country is at a price but for Freedom..not for diamonds and oil..We were to protect the People from invasion and afford Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness if not one at least to be able to obtain it by freedoms that we stand for..but if our government is lying, cheating, scamming, or pilfering..we would not know if it weren't for the news..The news is not just propaganda but government is as well...Because we have moved away from the Truth to which we stand to give Power to greedy Men! Give me a break people. The CIA was formed to keep secrets. Yes they are dirty but what else do we do against enemies who will do 10x worst to us. Stop whining and start realizing.
