GOP Group Reports Possible Fraud to FBI
February 01, 2008 3:28 PM
The National Republican Congressional Committee announced Friday it has alerted the FBI of possible fraud in its bookkeeping.
In a statement, NRCC Chairman Tom Cole (Okla.) said:
"As part of our ongoing efforts to institute and strengthen financial controls at the National Republican Congressional Committee, we learned earlier this week of irregularities in our financial audit process. Since these irregularities may include fraud, we have notified the appropriate law enforcement authorities. We are aggressively and thoroughly investigating the matter and, while we determine the details, we have terminated our relationship with a former employee who was engaged as an outside vendor."
The NRCC is the primary campaign fundraising group working to elect Republicans to seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Politico newspaper reported the possible fraud may involve "a former vendor [which] engaged in fraudulent activity with regard to the committee's financial audit process."
The NRCC spokesperson declined to comment further on this story.

Can you ever imagine a GOP politician breaking the law? I think it's mandatory these days. Cunningham,Ney,Delay,Abramhof etc are in the GOP hall of shame. Bush and Cheney are their mentors.

Sarbanes-Oxley too tough for Wall St.,AEI, Heritage Foundation, Hudson and Mahattan Institutes and now the NRCC. Well, better to get it out now so that King George can "Scooter Libby" the Republican Chairman and his ilk. Funny though, they hate their choices for the nomination that instead of sending money to them, they'd rather just steal it and claim bad accounting. I guess Haliburton and Blackwater were full enough. This is reminiscent of the kleptocratic exit of the Communist regime upon the failing of state and union. Any shredders in-action over there?

It just goes to show it's never too late to turn over a new leaf! Mark this day on your calendars and diaries-Feb. 1, 2008, a Republican found and exercised his conscience! (it must have been shriveled and dusty)

This is the first instance of a Republican in charge of money actually behaving responsibly. I thought Republicans had no conscience whatsoever when it came to money...

So Tom Cole only became honest after Politico printed their expose`. His conscience grew AFTER the cat was out of the bag...

Justin Rood failed to mention a couple of important points-Texas Rep. Mike Conaway was in charge of the audit, according to the Politico report. So either he hired an outside auditing firm, or his team was responsible. And the Politico also made clear that details were fuzzy when they published their story.

"A former vendor [which] engaged in fraudulent activity with regard to the committee's financial audit process."
The vagueness of the RNCC's statement should give Republicans pause. What damage is being controlled here? Was the fraud related to the contract with the auditor, or to the financial activities under audit? Who actually committed the fraud and who actually found it?

The Republicans have been encouraging the big bankers and other financial interests to commit fraud on the American people via sub-prime loans and other financial vehicles. The Republicans are spending hundreds of billions to kill Iraqis for the sake of big oil and other business interests at the same time killing and maiming thousands of our own solidiers. So what's a little more fraud in their own books?

I'm telling you folks again, when the weasels start turning on the weasels, the PARTY(R)is going to get really fun. Let the CHIPS AND DIPS fall where they may...

Thank GOD it is only POSSIBLE FRAUD, because if it was REAL FRAUD, there would be HELL to PAY!!!!!!

Democrats are just as corrupt as Republicans. Heck, CNN did an article to that effect a few years ago (wish I had bookmarked it). Unless you're registered libertarian or green party (since they don't have money to embezzle), I wouldn't be too haughty.

Gee, too bad you can't remember any examples. I mean if the Democrats are just as corrupt.
