Hillary's WH Schedules to be Released Soon
March 04, 2008 5:37 PM
The National Archives will release thousands of pages of former First Lady Hillary Clinton's daily schedules within the next two weeks, according to a new court filing.
The controversial documents have been the subject of a legal battle between the nonprofit right-leaning watchdog group Judicial Watch and the National Archives, which is the custodian of the records.
The documents are of heightened interest as now-Sen. Clinton, D-N.Y., pursues her presidential ambitions.
In a filing dated March 1, the Archives says it is preparing to release 10,000 of roughly 30,000 pages which comprise Clinton's daily schedules, in response to a Freedom of Information Act request. It is asking for more time to process the remaining 20,000 pages for release. The Archives blame their slow pace on a lack of resources.
The documents are held by the Clinton Presidential Library, a component of the National Archives and Records Administration, which is staffed by career NARA archivists.
The library's apparent slowness to release documents has come under fire during Hillary Clinton's presidential run, because many believe that its documents would be the "mother lode" for researchers working for Clinton's opponents, as one Republican consultant told the Los Angeles Times last August.
While the FOIA process is managed by Archives personnel, it includes a step whereby a designee of former President Clinton's – former White House aide Bruce Lindsey – reviews each page before it can be released.
According to the National Archives, Lindsey has not missed a deadline to complete his review. In most cases, Lindsey is given by law between 30 and 45 days to check and approve documents for public release.
In a statement, Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton blasted the Clintons and the National Archives. "We are pleased we are finally getting Hillary’s daily schedules despite the Clintons' delaying tactics," he said, adding that "the Archives needs to get its act together and comply with the law, which requires the timely release of these records."

It seems to me now, since they can not find any dirt on Sen. Clinton they are going to try another route. I have not seen to much coverage about the connection between obama and the fundrasing scandal. WHY/

Far-Right Republicans and conspiracy theorists keep thinking they are going to find the "mother lode" of dirt on Hillary - the "smoking gun" that will prove her a terrible person in some way or other. What they will actually find is the wholly mundane evidence of a savvy politicial and dedicated public servant dealing with Republicans' own false accusations on a daily basis. The expect to turn up evidence of crime, and they are more likely to turn up evidence of humanity and humility that will be egg on the accusers' faces all over again.

A rational person would have thought that since Hillary was going to base her campaign to a very large degree upon her experience as First Lady that she would have had the foresight to have these documents released prior to her beginning her nomination campaign.
Claiming a lack of human resources to release these documents at this late stage of the game definately gives the appearance of being less than genuine.

"Process the pages for release"? Is that the same as "filter the pages for release"? and if so who is doing the filtering?
Posted by: Dan | Mar 6, 2008 8:19:03 AM
Documentation is always filtered based on national security requirements. The national archives is not the agency making that decision. In fact, it is the current administration and the former adminstrations that make those decisions combined with national security official inputs.
It is to Clinton's advantage to have these documents released to add to her resume so to speak. So I seriously doubt she had a hand in stopping their release. There are still many things that she cannot talk about due to national security as would be the case for anyone with a Top Secret or Crypto clearance.

um, Clinton has had the control to release these documnents since the end of January. She did not need to wait for a FOIA request to do so. She has claimed that she was instrumental in bringing peace to Northern Ireland, at best she was there and talked to some women's groups, she had not formal or informal presence in the actual peace talks. She claims to have Opened the border in Kosovo, this is laughable since those negotians took place for weeks prior to her trip and the border actually opened the day before her arrival. She also claims to have 'fopught' for human rights in China, there are no records that she did more than give a speech on the subject, and we know how she feels about speeches.
the Clintons have played shenanigans with their taxes before so there is a reasonable assumption that a year long delay in releasing them poses an issue. Better a rumor than can't be confirmed than a scandal that can. There needs to be an accounting of where the $5MM came from. She was very adamant about her opponent releasing tax forms when she ran for the senate.....

If Rezko is an issue, what is the latest on Norman Hsu?
Posted by: Louis | Mar 7, 2008 6:37:26 PM
Judicial Watch IS a right wing (Republican) org that have there own battles of corruption going on right now. This would be the "Starr" thing.
The process to release these Archives are really a lot of red tape. Anything attached to government is and if you read up on the process, you will have a better understanding of it. Then you will see there is nothing mysterious about it. Republicans want you to think that way. They plan on it.
The tax issue, won't be an issue, but I am sure you are worrying yourself at night about it. Don't. It is very good for her to hang on to them until she does. Nothing to with "hiding" anything though.
What was the reason for wanting her daily calender again? Was it to check to see what her experience was? Was it to intentionally divert you into believing that you would find something to pick at? There are plenty who have already done that. Picking on her pantsuits may be more fun.
Now, as for her record for how many countries she has traveled to: Over 80
and that time she did quite a bit. Hillary made plenty of headlines as First Lady. Many people at the time accused her of running things. (so, there is some irony in all this). She also went to Iraq 3 times. You know, you don't need the diary for this information. You can check some internet Archives as well. I suppose there are some that are just to lazy to do this.

I have yet to see any coverage on Hillary's relationship with Norman Hsu or their relationship with Peter Paul.
Hmmmmmmmmm....makes you wonder, doesn't it?
Posted by: Stephen | Mar 10, 2008 1:07:06 PM
Two of Hillary's central claims in this primary have been that she has more experience than Obama, and that she has been fully vetted. To not release tax returns and White House documents almost entirely under cuts those claims. She therefore has an obligation to lay out just what her role was as first lady, and where potential financial conflicts of interest may lie.
Hillary's central claims on Obama are that he is more style than substance and is not ready to be commander in chief. She then completely undermines these claims by floating the idea of his being VP.
All politicians make statements that serve them politically and there are no perfect candidates in this race. But for Hillary (and Bill) this is more than a tragic Achilles heel. It seems to be their first instinct and primary mode of operation.

Who is norman hsu and peter paul
Posted by: relle | Mar 10, 2008 3:32:53 PM
Paul gave money to the Clintons when she was running for Senator. Low and behold Ed Rendell was the negotiator for the money, Gov. of Pennsylvania. They also used their daughter Chelsea to help get the money. Type in Clinton/Peter Paul, it will take you to the story.

DC VOTER:
Hilary didn't have a security clearance when she was the first lady. FIRST LADIES don't get that...
so there really shouldn't be anything to clear for "security" reasons.

Check Ralph Naders background, He doesn't need to take money from the corrupted corperations. He's not in it for the money. They can't own him.

Hillary tries to make it seem like she was Co-President during her days in the WHITE HOUSE.
I don't recall that. I do recall her failed Universal Health Care Policy.
and I do RECALL MONICA LEWINSKY, LINDA TRIPP and Kenn Starr, Whitewater, Travel Gate, Vince Foster, shall I go on?
Posted by: Traci | Mar 11, 2008 7:24:05 PM
It REALLY is a shame, the way Clintons
behave and throw mud on everybody, while
they themselves are so innocent ...
Remember, Bill smoked marihuana, but he
'did not inhale' - that is an argument;
he played with the cigar and Monika, but
'that was not sex' ...
etc etc etc WE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS BULL,
we want CHANGE and a leader with moral and not all this decisiveness!!!
GO FOR BARRACK OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!

Jordan, If I gave you a quarter could you please buy a clue. The records in question are under control of the National Archives not Hillary Clinton. In the article, the Archives accepts responsibility for the record release being late. They even acknowledge that the Clinton spokesperson, Bruce Lindsey, has met his deadlines for the release of the documents. Even Judicial Watch puts the reason for the delay on the National Archives. It amazes me that even when others are responsible for delays in release of information that Sen Clinton gets blamed as if she could just walk into the National Archives and get the records released, which, thanks to George Bush, she can not do.

who cares she needs to release her 2007 tax info , and her earmarks!!!????? where is that at???? i am waiting , and i have been waiting for a long time now, why hasnt nobody brought this up!!!!??????
Posted by: alexis | Mar 14, 2008 5:05:42 PM
This is just a farce, a facade to distract everyone from the real thing Clintons don't want to release - the TAX REPORTS. The same tax reports that have been released by any important person of the same level in the public arena, Hillary is going to keep secret UNTIL AFTER she's made the Democratic candidate (or hopes she is).
2+2=4. She's hiding something in them taxes.

Why do people now find it hard to believe that Hillary doesn't want to relaese anything. This is the same lawyer..that 'forgot' where her law firms billing records were and then 2 years later, they show up out of nowhere on a table in the White House. How dumb are people? Is this an honest person?
Can you imagine...and I'm suppose to trust her to run the country and do what is best for me.
She can't even keep track of law firm records??? Both Clinton's are 2 of the most dishonest, immoral and unethical people to be involved witht the government of the United States of America.

Please people, Americans especially, do not allow yourselves to be fooled by the Clintons games. What we need now in America is a government that is transparent and not a kind of African government show where they say a different thing and do something else. If she were half as good as she claims, she would have released her tax returns, and her earmarks even before it becomes an issue. Why should we wait for her to be a nominee before the release? I don't think it will go well for the Dems against the GOP if she keeps this up (THAT IS IF AT ALL SHE WINS!!!)
