Ex-Prez Clinton: Million Dollar Bill?
April 11, 2008 10:25 AM
Since leaving office, former President Bill Clinton has received an average $1 million a year from the U.S. government in pension, staff salaries, office rent and other presidential retirement perks -- nearly what former presidents Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush received combined, the Politico newspaper reports.
Since 2001, Clinton has spent $420,000 of federal dollars on phone service, $3.2 million on office rent, and $751,000 for "other services," according to the paper. His taxpayer-funded health insurance was $10,000 this year, said the Politico, which found the figures in Congressional reports and executive branch budget documents.
The figures do not include the cost of Secret Service protection, which is not disclosed, the paper said.
The news that Clinton is "taking full advantage" of his post-presidential retirement benefits comes one week after his wife's presidential campaign released the couple's tax records, showing the two have earned over $109 million since leaving office, much of it from book royalties, speaking fees and consulting payments.
"Since leaving office, President Clinton has represented the American people at home and abroad, at state funerals, through his work with former President Bush on the tsunami and Hurricane Katrina, and through his vigorous charitable foundation work to fight AIDS, climate change and childhood obesity," said Jay Carson, a spokesman for Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, in a statement to the paper.
The former president is not without voices of restraint, Carson noted. On occasion, the spokesman told Politico, Clinton's staff "recommended decreases to the proposed budgets."

Clinton has been an incredibly active ex-president since leaving office. He has raised money and led global efforts on a variety of pressing world issues. He's been worth every penny. And when he set up his office, he chose a suite right in the middle of what was then depressed Harlem. It is now thriving.
The guy gets good things done and has a way of energizing the causes he involves himself with!

What are the amounts that other past presidents have received?

I fully support Bill Clinton's continued push to improve American's image at home and abroad.

Caucuses are not fair for many reasons, this one is the worst!
Obama had a 182,482 lead after two caucuses (Colorado & Minnesota), but Hillary had a 228,781 lead in one primary (Ohio).
Obama gains +44 delegates, Hillary gains just +9 How lop-sided is that!

There are perks associated with government service. Maybe this is why candidates put themselves through this terrible process. And what they get is definitely less than the golden parachutes CEOs get at times.
It would be nice, though certainly not required, that ex-government officials making a lot of money based on the prior government work give the taxpayers a break.

Yes and he also helped start to destroy American sovereignty by signing into the NAFTA agreements leading to the outsourcing of millions of American jobs. This country is slowly eroding itself due to the propensity of these politicians to try to earn every dollar they can at any American's expense.
When will the leader come that will help?

Harlem thrives because the CIA evicted the less fortunate due to the location of Clinton's office, am I correct?

Judy, with all due respect, If you talked to Bill or Hill and followers you would soon discover that they are much more immportant that the less fortunate working hard for the American Dream in Harlem.
The location of Clintons office in the Harlem is in part Al Sharpton's idea to covert Harlem into another part of the American Scheme that the Clintons have had some much success at. SO SAD!

Lets make it quite simple and follow the lowest common denomenator, that is to say, government employees as well as ex-government employees (presidents), sould receive as much tax payers funds as the average taxpayer does. Since we (tax payers) dont get government medical, special service protection, office space funds... neither should the folks which 'worked' for us.
