Todd Palin Pushed Firing for Years, Probe Told
October 09, 2008 9:26 AM
Todd Palin campaigned for years to get state trooper Mike Wooten fired, he told the Alaska Legislature's "Troopergate" investigator, in a 25-page response to a list of questions.
Palin provided his answers to special counsel Stephen Branchflower yesterday, according to news accounts and sources familiar with the probe. Palin's lawyer and the McCain-Palin campaign made the document available to reporters that evening, a move condemned by State Senate officials.
"The McCain campaign should not be releasing these documents to you," said Alaska Senate President Lyda Green, R-Wasilla, after learning the camp had offered the document to a reporter, under condition of anonymity. "This is a confidential report," she said. "The campaign should have nothing to do with this."
Alaska State Sen. Hollis French, who is managing the investigation, confirmed that the document was not to be made public, and is not being distributed by the investigation.
The campaign's release of Todd Palin's answers make the document the only piece of investigative material from Branchflower's probe to become public prior to the expected release of Branchflower's report. That raised eyebrows among some Alaska officials and political observers, who noted how sharply Palin and the campaign have criticized the legislature's probe as political.
One McCain-Palin campaign ad called the bipartisan-backed probe "nothing more than a three-ring circus emceed by Obama partisans." Palin, the campaign and her allies have criticized State Sen. French, the probe's manager, for suggesting Branchflower's findings could be an "October surprise" for the campaign, asserted Branchflower lacked impartiality, and pointed out that some Democratic legislators who supported the probe also support Sen. Barack Obama's White House bid.
"They're the ones making it political," said Senate President Green, a Republican from Palin's hometown who has nevertheless been a public critic of Palin’s. "Alaskans are perfectly capable of asking questions, getting answers and writing a report."
Green said she was shocked at how McCain-Palin campaign aides had acted since arriving in the state in early September. "I can't believe that the campaign would condone this behavior if they truly knew," she said. "I've never seen anything like it."

If Obama is palling around with terrorists," (Ayers)
then
McCain is "palling around with KKK members" (Byrd)
and
McCain is ''palling around with felons who commit fraud that cheat Americans out of billions $ in retirement savings" (Keating)
and Palin is "palling around with America-hating secessionists" (AIP)
Hey McCain, your lame desperate attack tactics work both ways. If Obama is a terrorist, then you and Palin are KKK members, felons who cheat Americans out of their retirement savings, and America-hating secessionists.

I agree with Mr Tate, Sarah and Todd Palin are vindictive small town liars, now caught in their own web.
I came from a small town, I don't disparage that. But the world is a highly complex and combustible place, we need the best and the brightest at our helm, with the best and the brightest as backups.
I feel a bit sorry for McCain, he could have been President but the Evangelicals shoved Bush in his place. Now, McCains time is past as his style of leadership just won't cut it in now.
...especially with Ms Palin and her snowmobile champ, never-even-went-to-college husband/Shadow Vice President.
Yowsa. He was involved at the Alaskan Executive level, with more than just this stupid troopergate thing. Would he do the same in Washington? Presumably so.
Positively frightening.

Todd Palin, a member of the anarchist group AIP, the tax evasion, the personal email accounts to keep state business secret, the co-governance, keeping Sarah's pregnany secret, the Brad Hanson wife swapping, all smell more fishy than his failed fishing business. These people are not like Main Street. They make Stevens look like a saint.

Palin is a tool!! And sadly, McCain has become one too.

Go Sarah!!! We love you and are supporting you here in Kansas!!!

Way to go Palin. Score another for the Dems!
I was very happy to see yet another (incredilby powerful band) tell the McCain posse to stop using their song! I'm proud of you Dave Grohl!

I guess Palin actually *does* have a record of promoting bipartisanship.... it's inspiring to see how the state Democrats and Republicans are working so closely together on this...

A good way to protect the guilty is to have a fall-guy. Sounds to me like Toddy-boy is falling on his sword to protect the misses. He's willing to take the heat for this fiasco so Sara gets away scott-free. I suspect she's guilty as hell and into it up to her neck, but Toddy-boy is willing to take the hit cause he's not the governor nor the VP nominee and nothing can be done to him - he's just a civilian. I wonder if Alaskans are as stupid as Toddy-boy is making them look to be?

So if McCain wins and croaks as actuaries say, this high school graduate-oil field operator-low-life street thug Todd Palin is gonna run the United States and lead the free world, eh?

It is hard to believe that Todd Palin pushed firing for years without Sarah Palin's knowledge. A likely story.
Todd is the fall guy.
Sarah is guilt as charged! Guilty of power-of-abuse. She should be impeached.

Some five million fraudulent home mortgages are in the hands of illegal aliens, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
In America an illegal alien was arrested this year in Tucson, Arizona after allegedly using a stolen social security number to buy two homes and rack up over $780,000 in bad debt.
It's not known how many of those have contributed to the subprime housing mortgage meltdown, but it has affected every state.
The problem began years ago when banks were forced to give mortgages without confirming social security numbers or borrower identification. As a result, illegal immigrants were able to obtain home mortgages which they could not afford and then walked away from.
This is no longer isolated communities whose corrupt Politicians, Governors, Mayors and elected officials, who haven't sold America to the open-border Special interest lobby for campaign contributions.

Re: "In conjunction with this probe, I watched the video that Sarah Palin made for the Alaskan Independence Party convention. There were no folksy sayings or perky winks. she looked and sounded like a governor... I find her words very chilling and disturbing that she condones a group that wants to break up our country, i.e. secede from the United States." --- Teri
Why is this video not being shown and circulated in the media? I have never seen it, and would be very interested in listening to Sarah Palin "unguarded" -- that is, what she recently said in public and on the record, and how she recently thought, before she became the VP nominee. Since the McCain/Palin camp is so liberally spreading rumors about Obama's "poor judgment," I am surprised that no media organizations are probing Palin's past history, at least for the sake of balance. If Sarah Palin actually spoke "welcomingly" to a group promoting seceding from the union, this is a far more dangerous character and trust and treason issue than Obama participating in a commission on education reform with Ayers, who is now a respected professor of education. Ayers' acts as a student protester were decades ago, when Obama was 8 years old! The Alaska secessionist/independence organization is alive and well right now, and Palin's husband was a member until she became governor. I sure would like to see the video of Palin speaking to this group.

Who is politicizing the Troopergate inquiry?
Posted by: GOP | Oct 9, 2008 1:14:17 PM
This troopergate investigation was scheduled to be reviewed in court before McCain tapped Palin and being he didn't even know her or vet her this is his own questionable judgment.
The people of Alaska deserve to have this investigation continue w/o the McCain camp interfering in their state business. Palin's brother in law is no angel, but Sarah's questionable judgment in using her position to fulfill a personal conflict were an obvious abuse of power & position on the tax payers record, time, and money.

I agree that there is NO WAY Todd Palin "kept this from his wife" as they seem to be claiming. It's clear these two share everything, and they've said so themselves. Great for a marriage but not neccessarily so for the Alaska government.

It is nice to hear that chivalry is not dead, the proof being that the "first dude" is apparently willing to fall on his sword for his lady. It would have been a lot nicer if it didn't feel like just another dishonest, manipulative strategy decided upon by the McCain/Palin campaign in an attempt to dodge responsibility for bad behavior. What it feels like may or may not be accurate, but based on the performances from the McCain/Palin camp, for this registered NC voter, that’s how it looks and feels.
Oh, and let me make one thing perfectly clear. No pundit, no member of the Obama camp, no elitist, no latte-sipping lefty, and certainly, none of those dastardly evil-doers in the liberal media have formed my now very strong opinions in this election. The words of each of the candidates themselves have served to form my opinions and decisions.
Where honesty and integrity are concerned, I initially held such high hopes for this presidential election. Senators Obama and Biden have not yet let me down - Senator McCain and Governor Palin have dropped me off a cliff.

The McCain camp is just repeating false claims in the hopes that enough voters are foolish enough to a) mistake the spear for political discourse, and b)decline to do any fact-checking and jump of the cliff like good little lemmings.
I get the sense that things might be a bit different in this election. People have access to all the information they need to make smart choices. We are searching news archives, congressional records and putting more faith in factcheck.org than partisan media hacks. But the McCains are playing the game as the republicans have done for years...just keep smearing it on and eventually something will stick.
