Troopergate Probe OK, AK Supremes Say

October 09, 2008 5:08 PM

The Alaska legislature's Troopergate probe into Gov. Sarah Palin may conclude its work and release its findings, the Alaska Supreme Court decided Thursday.

The justices heard a last-minute appeal from several Republican legislators, supported by a Texas conservative legal group, to stop the investigation.  A lower court had ruled against the lawmakers last week.

Peter Maassen, who defended the legislature and its investigator against the suit, provided a copy of the Supreme Court's order to ABC News.  The court's decision, he said, had not yet been released.

"The decision is gratifying," said State Sen. Hollis French, D-Anchorage, who is managing the probe and was named in the suit.  "The justices affirm no one’s rights have been violated and the investigation can conclude."

A spokesperson for the court declined to discuss the ruling because the plaintiffs had not yet received a copy of the order.

The legislature's special counsel is set to deliver his findings tomorrow to the bipartisan panel which authorized the probe in July.  The investigation, which looked into allegations Palin misused her power to pursue a personal vendetta, turned into a political and media circus after Palin was chosen late August to be the Republican vice presidential candidate.

Beautiful! Out of the shadows and into the light. Love to be a fly on the wall at the McCain Palin strategy session over this one!

I go with two individuals above....now to get into her and her husband's role into the Alaska Secession Movement! aka Alaska Independent Party. And to think, this broad wanted more power should she be a vice president.....

Evidently, John McCain's campaign was unable to convince anyone that a council consisting of 11 Republicans and 4 Democrats was on a politically partisan witchhunt. In effect, Sarah Palin is now on her own. The failed effort to prevent the results of this investigation from coming out before November 4th has only served to focus more attention on it and attach more political consequences to the results. Should the results released tomorrow conclude that Sarah Palin abused her power, how is the McCain campaign going to prevent Sarah Palin from having to answer the many legitimate questions the national press will have? If she's found to have abused her power and the McCain campaign stonewalls the press and refuses her to answer questions, the media will crucify him and her.

They haven't told Sarah yet. She has to continue with "it's an issue of truthfulness" attacks on Obama.

This will never see light of day. It's just a witch hunt anyway with no substance and is better kept under wraps. Sarah does not deserve this unfair treatment. She cannot help it if her husband was the one who went behind her back to conduct the attempt to get her former brother in law fired. As for Monahan guy, he was fired for just cause.

Thank goodness there is indeed justice in Alaska.

A media circus in which Palin stars as the clown.

It is indeed gratifying that Alaska has a strong, independent judiciary. Especially, considering that the third largest political party in Alaska is the Alaskan Independence Party, of which a main tenet is that the admission of Alaska as one of the United States of America was illegal. Hence, the party advocates holding a vote on withdrawing from the Union.

I hope this brings about the end of McCain/Palin. May Palin go packing back to the darkness from wince she came.

...it's funny, all of this attempt to block the investigation never took into account the rights of Moneghan.... no matter what you political affiliation we should all hope that this man's receives his due justice...

Could she be impeached for abuse of power?

McCain campaign issues own report clearing palin - NOT a joke, but what a joke

Who care? This is a dumb story.

What about the economy?

Sounds suspicioul;y like someone was bought off. Business as usual and she's still suspect maybe even more so.

Funny how the true believers already--without evidence--have exonerated Palin on this one. She couldn't help it--her husband did it. Which begs the question: if she has so little control of her husband interfering in state business, what's he going to do in the VP office? Oh, that's right--he's not going to get a chance to find out.

Why is this so important to anyone? Sarah is a good person and this is ridiculous to think an employee can work against his boss and expect to stay employed.

I find it interesting that ABC news is not a liberal outlet yet every posting on this blog save mine has a liberal twist to it

Here's a quote from Palin's own personal campaign report for tomorrow on her view of Troopergate and discussing: ...his "long history of unstable and erratic behavior." --- I thought she was talking about McCain!!!!

I guess if the shoe fits, wear it.

This will make John even angrier --- ol' MR. GRUMPY is not going to be happy after his nap!!
