Troopergate Suits Tossed

October 03, 2008 9:59 AM

Just moments before Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin took the stage to debate Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del. in St. Louis, a judge in Anchorage ruled to allow the legislature's "Troopergate" probe to continue.

Judge Peter Michalski tossed two suits, one filed by Palin's attorney general and another by five Republican state lawmakers. One sought to dismiss subpoenas against several Palin aides; the other sought to halt or curtail the state legislature's probe into allegations Palin fired her former Public Safety Commissioner, Walt Monegan, as part of a personal vendetta against a state trooper under Monegan's authority who had been involved in a messy divorce with her sister.

The legislature's investigation is still expected to wrap up on Oct. 10, as previously scheduled, but it now appears its findings will not have the benefit of interviews with the aides whose subpoenas had been questioned, according to the investigation's manager, Democratic State Sen. Hollis French.

Palin,
Palin breaks the law.
Palin shielded by Republican lawyers.
Palin gets impeached.
Palin is a laughing stock.
Palin fades away.
Save our country from the Cheney/Bush clones. Stop the lies! Stop the runaway spending! Stop the destruction of the american taxpayer.

This just proves how presidential and experienced she really is.
She comes to office with her own "gate" scandal.

Ah yes the old boys network of Ted Stevens that Palin busted up and the Democrats are out to get her. Too bad they don't have a shred of evidence and too bad they aren't judges. This is NOT criminal proceeding.

Meanwhile another friend of Obama's, and old poker playing pal, has his house raided by FBI. Ayers/Wright/Resko/Jim Johnson and yet another friend. Geez Obama kept some really good company.

People like to say Palin broke the law but they can never state which law she broke.

Monegan is an "at will" employee. She can fire him for any reason or no reason at all.

Stop the waste of taxpayer money for political witch hunting.

Well, I'm glad. This should not be kept quiet until after the election. We don't know enough about Palin, and we need to find out about this.

Regardless, we cannot afford McCain / Palin.

More tax cuts for big business and oil companies?!

Taxing health benefits?!

McCain/Palin = dangerous.

After watching the debate last night, I am convinced: Palin should be running for high school student body president.

Glad the countdown to report clock is still valid. Too bad the judge wasn't empowered to rule that the Palinistas can't ignore subpoenas.

"Monegan is an "at will" employee. She can fire him for any reason or no reason at all." may be tru but the state trooper she was trying to get fired is a civil servent so if it's proven she was putting pressure on her "at will" employee to fire him it's conspiracy and in fact illegal!

What if shock of all shocks, she's the one telling the truth, God knows democrats lie too. I really do not know how fair it will be since 3 of the people investigating are Obama supporters. I know one thing if this was happening to Obama he would be acting and doing the samething.

I find it entertaining as regardless of how Palin and her new best friend, John McOld try to spin this investigation, the facts can't be ignored.

Palin herself promised to cooperate fully, claiming she was an open-book. Yet, once she was tapped to be VP, she did a typical GOP flip-flop and decided it was political and therefore not worth the paper those subpeonas were written on.

But add in the facts.. She talked to Monegan to fire the recalicrant bro-in-law, her best dude, Todd, instructed Monegan to fire him, yet, Todd isn't a government employee, so why was he doing it? Others in her office did the same, basicially, it was a full court press to fire Monegan because he refused an unlawful order to fire a State Trooper who'd only pissed off Palin and her sister.

Seems to me, she'll soon be out of politics completely, and in my view, the world will be a suddenly better place.

How dare Sarah Palin run for high political office. She didn't go to Harvard or Yale, she isn't from the Politial Class, she's also a Concervative. We'll show her who's she's dealing with and what she's up against.

This is how politics is really played folks. Find a crack and exploit it. Have the media sheep keep braying it until everybody believes it. Find a sympathetic judge to hear it. We'll show her to stay where she belongs.

She did a good job at reciting her memorized answers.... even when they had nothing to do with the question... which was about half the time. Vice President, eh? I could see voting for her for MAYBE alderman... depending on who she's running against, that is.

Wake up folks! If this isn't the best example of flash over substance I do not know what is. LISTEN to WHAT she says, not HOW she says it. LISTEN to what Obama and McCain and Biden say. She is without question WAY out of her league.... not because she is a woman but because she is a light weight with very little depth of knowledge on subjects she would need for such a job. Let's leave 'folksy' for the less important positions.... like barber or grocery clerk.

It's important to remember that the state police commissioner is an at will employee, and not under contract, however, people fail to see that she is not under investigation for the actual firing, but rather what they did surrounding his termination. such things as undue influence, harrassment, and illegally obtaining Wootens personnel file, where they discovered his workers compensation claim (which they tried to prove fraud on, unsuccesfully). These are a few of the crimes committed, however the list is growing. It should now include contempt, hindering prosecution / investigation, and yes perjury!

mike wayne: "Monegan is an "at will" employee. She can fire him for any reason or no reason at all."

Would never want to be an "at will" employee to Sarah Palin, for sure. (I know, she would not hire me either because I am not her high school friend).

@Melissa and all the GOP trolls....Physician, heal THYSELF!

Learn what it means. Apply it.

Palin said "the last straw" that led her to fire Monagan was his "unauthorized lobbying trip" to Washington to try to get some funding for a rape prevention program. The trip WAS authorized - by her office. And what is wring with going to Washington to try to get funding for a worthwhile pgm? State government officials from all over the country are on Capitol Hill every day doing exactly that.

The woman is a liar.

Wow none of you have acknowledged the obvious...this country has woken up to the reality of the conservative agenda under President Bush...our country is suffering, so cling to your guns, GED's and religion...here comes change, here comes a minority in power, here comes liberal leadership accepting everyone and here comes an honest man. Sara Palin is a complete idiot, but keep telling yourselves otherwise...

Posted by: Educated | Oct 3, 2008 12:06:28 PM

Actually it's like this:

How dare Sarah run for VP. She doesn't understand national issues, she can't competently defend her and McCain's positions when challenged.

I understand that she's been focused on Alaska's issues but she obviously has been paying attention to the lower 48 and it's issues (even though she claims she literally reads everything).

I'm sure she's bright but she's not up to speed on much.

McCain knew she wasn't ready. That's why he hasn't allowed her to be interviewed outside of infomercials on Faux News.

That's fine. I'm glad she's his running mate. Keep Sarah happy for the next 30 days. Make sure she feels no need to quit. The electoral map looks great for Obama. She's the best thing that ever happened to the Democratic ticket.

I suppose it doesn't matter to the people who are afraid that Palin might destroy their dreams of power that Mr. Monegan himself is on record as saying that she never pressured him to fire anyone.
