RNC Chairman Candidates Jostle Over Blago
December 10, 2008 5:53 PM
ABC News’ Rick Klein Reports: One way to measure the delight Republicans are taking over the scandal involving Gov. Rod Blagojevich, D-Ill., is visible in the campaign for chairman of the Republican National Committee, where the candidates are weighing in with friendly suggestions for the president-elect.
RNC Chairman Mike Duncan, who is running for another term as chairman, released a strongly worded statement Wednesday:
“President-elect Barack Obama’s carefully parsed and vague statements regarding his own contact and that of his team with Governor Rod Blagojevich are unacceptable. Considering the severity of the allegations against Governor Blagojevich, the President-elect should immediately disclose any and all communications his transition team has had with the governor’s office along with any Service Employees International Union (SEIU) officials involved in the matter. Obama’s promise of transparency to the American people is now being tested.”
South Carolina GOP Chairman Katon Dawson, who is seeking the national chairmanship, had this to say Tuesday: “President-elect Obama’s presidential transition team has said the American people should have a ‘seat at the table’ and pledged to expand transparency in decision-making. If President-elect Obama is serious, he should immediately release all records of discussions about the appointment of Obama’s successor that he and his transition team may have had with Governor Blagojevich or Governor Blagojevich’s office.”
And this Wednesday from Ken Blackwell, the former Ohio secretary of state who is also bidding to head up the GOP:
“The developing criminal investigation of your friends and allies in Illinois demands you take action,” Blackwell writes in an “open letter” to the president-elect.
“You were quick to call for stringent law enforcement and full disclosure when Republicans had their scandals. Now some of your closest Democratic friends and allies are embroiled in a criminal conspiracy involving multiple felonies, and you must hold them to the same standard. And you can start by telling us what you know about this situation, and when you knew it.”

These Republicans are full of it. Where were they during the Bush scandals? THeir mouths were shut because they were attached tightly to Bush's rear end. As usual, the Republicans say they want new leadership nad a new direction but will revert to the same accusatory, divisive schemes they alway employ. Just remember, you've got some skeletons too.

RNC is so very corrupt. Who cares what they have to say.
Posted by: Cameron | Dec 10, 2008 6:46:29 PM
Before republicans point fingers at anyone they should look at their own party the last eight years with the likes of Tom Delay (R) indicted for conspiracy and money laundering, Randy Cunningham (R) guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit bribery and one count of tax evasion, Ted Stevens (R) guilty lying about bribes he took, Norm Coleman (R) being investigated for corruption, Rick Renzi (R) indicted for wire fraud, money laundering, insurance fraud and extortion, Larry Craig (R) soliciting a male undercover prostitute, Mark Deli Siljander (R) was charged with money laundering, conspiracy and obstructing justice for allegedly lying about lobbying senators on behalf of an Islamic charity that authorities said was secretly sending funds to Al-Qaeda terrorists, Mark Foley (R) pedophile. I live in Louisiana a state with their share of corruption with David Vitter (R) soliciting prostitution and William “Cold Cash” Jefferson (D) indicted for racketeering and bribery charges. Ironically Jefferson was defeated by Republican challenger Anh “Joseph” Cao, an attorney and community organizer. Hopefully the next to see jail time will be Tom Delay, William Jefferson and Gov. Rod Blagojevich!

Does this make an excuse for us to let a corrupt thug in our White House NOW?
I have been a Democrat all my life but I did not vote for Obama. I didn't believe a word he said. The DNC rammed him down our throat every crooked way they could. I was a Hillar supporter.

Whenever a republican veers into temptation, right away there are usually suggestions from the members of their party to resign, immediately. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't, but one thing is for certain and that is Obama asking Blago to resign is a first and I might add a welcome move. I do think someone needs to be around Obama when he meets new friends( a new friend advisor or something) as his past associates are not people that most of us would associate with.
And Mr. Klein, I am sure that some are making hay from this but no one with even a pea sized brain wants stuff like this to happen, especially when so many are at risk for seeing everything they have worked for go up in smoke. This is a distraction to the country, a distraction to a man stepping into a tough situation and a distraction we just don't need.
Posted by: david | Dec 10, 2008 7:47:54 PM
David - agree completely.
This is the media at its worst - 24/7 news...Blago is an idiot and deserves all he gets and more.
But for Republicans to now decide that they are "lily white" and gosh oh gee oh...we had better protect the country from this Obama guy...heavens...after 8 years of this puppet government ala Cheney and his buds, Dems need to be held to a higher standard.
Oh that's right, when R's are in office, the bar is so low that a slug can creep over.

To quote "two wrongs don't make a right." PEBO should find out the truth from his aides and then tell the public. It would be a big mistake for a dripping of facts to take place. As efficient as Axlerod is, how is it he claims he misspoke? If O or any of his staff spoke to the governor, that doesn't mean they had any knowledge of what he is accused of doing.
Posted by: Vivi | Dec 10, 2008 8:59:43 PM
Vivi yes you have great points.
But remember that the media is so hyper sensitive (as well as the "right") that anything PEBO says is blown up. Then it becomes, a "when", "where", "is he telling the entire story".
What's pathetic is that no one followed this closely on the war in Iraq, the scandals around Bush and Cheney, even lil' miss snowshoe. The media doesn't really want a true story, they want ANY story.
Obama can't say a thing without the 'pubs becoming sanctimonious snakes, writhing around, so full of themselves, realizing the headlights are on "them" not "us" and driven to keep this story front and center until something else comes along.
Given the state of our nation (and our world - let's not forget that we're part of something bigger - which we seem to love to do) we should all be coming together and working to one purpose.
Yes, it's idealistic but as long as we continue to work at cross purposes, we fail. No not just the Democrats, not just the Republicans...we ALL fail.
We are trying to save ourselves from drowning - Obama is a life line - not 100% pure and not without his weaknesses - but after reeling for 8 years with a rudderless ship & a government so secretive and manipulative ANYTHING is welcome.
Those trying to stick Obama with every little (and big - because, yes Virginia, there will be more...) thing that comes to pass are the very same that turned a blind eye for 8 years and rather than try to make things better for all still have their sights on only bettering themselves.
American hang on to your hats, it will be a wild ride.

INVESTIGATE BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA and RAUM EMMANUEL now!

The New York Times has an article out suggesting that Obama had a role in the Governor Blago's fall.
The article is titled:
Obama's Efforts on Ethics Bill Had Role in Governor's Fall.
WRITTEN By MIKE McINTIRE and JEFF ZELENY
published on 12/9/08
Why isn't any other media outlet reporting on this?
Posted by: TokiaHamp | Dec 10, 2008 10:24:52 PM
Obama associated and played the gane with these politicians like he did with his former church. Obama has carefully tiptoed and turned a deaf ear to shenanigans around him. While he may not have participated fully with or agreed with what has happened along his path..he surely is accountable for his own lack of courage in facing these things head on. Instead he chose to go along and look the other way to get along. But, his luck in avoiding any hands-on guilt may come crashing around him as word of his hypocrisy keeps getting louder and louder.

Since Obama never remembers anything anyone in his past has said or done, I don't think there will be any explanation from him.
I just hope when he meets with foreign leaders, he actually remembers what they said!

It doesn't matter if Obama comes forward or not. The gov seems like a man that will sing like a canary if he goes down. Any dirt he has Obama will be sure to come out!
The gov wanted Obama to get his wife a fat job on a board JUST LIKE OBAMA got his wife a $200,000 pay raise and promotion for a 1 million dollar earmark. (Obama is just as much of a crook as the gov!)
Obama did the same thing. Obama DID NOT get to where he is today without colluding with the corrupt political machine of Chicago!
I'm going to love the next four years as Obama is going to make Bush & Nixon look like Saints!

Every election is a choice between the lesser of two evils. Having someone as president who has come out of Chicago politics is very troubling. These people have no boundaries when it comes to ethics. Those of you who voted for Barry will undoubtedly get what you deserve. Sad for the nation that someone can buy an election.
Posted by: Larry | Dec 11, 2008 10:46:49 AM
How many more scandals will Barry have before he is sworn into office?
Posted by: Don | Dec 11, 2008 11:10:35 AM
the deal was j j jr would bid 500000 then bo and his lady friend from chicago would bid 1 mil it simple a senate vote just bought....but ' I DON'T KNOW' the senate vote is so close maybe it just wouldn't matter

Fae: You are so right. Obama and his team of Pelosi,Dean and Reid were responsible for Hillary losing the nomination. I can take bets that they made a deal with the superdelegates to support Obama and Obama was well aware of this fact. He is the most underhanded liar that this country had running for the presidency. I am so glad this is all coming out in the open. Plus how about Jessie Jackson, Jr. Wasn't he going to accept a million dollar deal. And Obama had meetings with the governor at one time. Whenever there is trouble with one of the democrats that Obama has been involved with he hides himself from any corruption. I did not vote for Obama, I liked Hillary. More is going to come out yet and it could be Obama himself.
