Gov. Palin To Resign at End of Month

July 03, 2009 3:56 PM

ABC News' Kate Barrett Reports: Sarah Palin announced Friday that she will step down from her post as Alaska governor at the end of the month, and will not run for reelection.

In a press conference from her Wasilla home, the Alaska governor said “this decision has been in the works for awhile,” and said, “I’m not wired to operate under the same old politics as usual.”

There’s been speculation that Palin has had her eye on the 2012 presidential race, but it’s unclear why she’s leaving before the end of her term. Her current run as governor ends in 2010.

Palin did not take questions after her announcement, but compared herself to a good point guard facing “a full court press from the national level.”

“She knows exactly when to pass the ball so that a team can win,” Palin said.

Earlier this week, Palin and her political operation was portrayed in an unflattering light in the new Vanity Fair.

Lieutenant Gov. Sean Parnell is next in line to become governor when Palin leaves the job.

She's going Socialist hunting. And the Socialist will spend copious amounts of time badgering her, and it'll all be a waste of time, because someone else will get the republican nomination. She's going to be a tool and a good one.

Those who voted for her, should bow down and kiss the feet of us that saved you by not letting this idiot in the white house. God save the US we got a live one, crazy as two left shoes.

They said she didn't take any questions. We know why. She doesn't know any answers. She sounded like a moron during it!

I was very upset watching T.V. and seeing a Special Report come onto the set. Then that special report was Sarah Palin stepping down. Come On! Special Reports are for emergency notification! This does not affect my life! Shame on you ABC

SARAH PALIN, America's REAL feminist: Intelligent, strong, accomplished (no glass ceiling for her),patriotic, moral, and beautiful. Unlike the loony left who think that only ugly women have value, Sarah is the real article and will do whatever she thinks best for her family, her state, and her country. GO SARAH !

SD, just be concerned with the blatant liar you elected. He looked good during the campaign. He's now starting to look like the people he associated with for the last 20 years.

I never figure Palin as a quitter.

Me, me, me, I, I, I, you betcha

Posted by: Disgusted | Jul 3, 2009 4:08:18 PM

I think it's horrible she isn't even going to finish out her term!!! She was elected to be governor and she's going to quit!!! Quite a reflection on her personality I'd say.
I still wish she'd just go away - she's got something up here sleeve for sure

Weird... Something's going on we don't know about...

Posted by: MIguy | Jul 3, 2009 4:09:28 PM

Palin, the polar bears and Americans everywhere THANK YOU for stepping down. Now PLEASE just stay home!

Posted by: Roxanne | Jul 3, 2009 4:09:35 PM

Ok, so what kind of unbelievable scandal is she avoiding with this?

She has done something really bad and someone gave her the choice of stepping down or being revealed.

Let's lay down bets--prostitution rings? meth lab operation? outright bribe? really a man?

I can't wait to find out!

Hmmmmmmmmm.....if she's planning on running in 2012, this wont look very good on her resume, will it? Quitting with no real reason? Unless...well, never mind! Hopefully, if she is planning on running in 2012, she will take this extra time to learn more about what the POTUS does, more about world affairs, and more about U.S. affairs, outside of Alaska! Even then I wouldn't vote for her! If it's her and Obama running in 2012 I don't know what I'll do! I didn't vote for Obama last time....and wouldn't vote for either one next time! We need someone with some kind of experience or just plain common sense in the White House!

I truly wonder what is behind this decision. Despite the negative press, she has above a 50% approval rating among Alaskans and might well have even won a second term as governor. I can't believe this is all in response to the Vanity Fair article. It's completely irresponsible of her to bail out on her term in the middle of the current economic crisis.

I've been racking my brain as to why such an egotist would step down out of the spotlight. I finally figured it out - she is going to run for God.

Posted by: Ron | Jul 3, 2009 4:11:12 PM

If Ms Palin thinks this is a smart political move to position herself for a presidential run . . . . well, I certainly don't see it. It makes her look like someone who can't take the pressure, a prima donna who can't deal with folks saying a word against her, a person who has truly betrayed those who voted for her in Alaska to further her own aims.

Feminist? Intellect? I'm not seeing it in this action.

Posted by: Kira | Jul 3, 2009 4:11:16 PM

Well, I hope you're all happy now...nobody to rake over the coals anymore..ha That poor woman was horse whipped by the media. Who are you going to pick on next? Wow, not a single worthy person out there to try to ruin.

Good thing she's a very strong woman, and this isn't going to quash her spirit one bit. She's an amazing person. Nobody worthwhile will even try to run for President because of the media that try to do them in. Just watch what is written after my comment and read the rhetoric....

Wonder what they got on her. She's obviously striking a deal to avoid prosecution. She can see Russia from her house, and she probably wishes she lived there.

Posted by: Annie | Jul 3, 2009 4:13:16 PM

Might help the republicans hold on to the governors seat and set her for a senate seat. I do not believe she really believes she will ever be President.
