Pro-Sotomayor Ads Tie Limbaugh to Republicans

July 13, 2009 11:18 AM

Klein ABC News’ Rick Klein reports:

A group of liberal activists is teaming up with a Latino organization to run Spanish-language radio ads targeting Republican lawmakers over GOP opposition to Judge Sonia Sotomayor.

The ad places Rush Limbaugh front and center in the debate over Sotomayor’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings. It quotes Limbaugh as calling Sotomayor a “bigot” and a “racist,” and refers to Limbaugh as one of the “Republican leaders” who are attacking the judge.

“It’s insulting to all Latinos and Americans,” the ad says in Spanish.

The ads -- organized by Presente.org and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee -- are running in eight heavily Latino congressional districts in Florida, according to organizers. The districts include four now held by Republicans, including top Democratic targets Rep. Adam Putnam, R-Fla., and Rep. John Mica, R-Fla.

The effort is part of a broader campaign by progressive groups to capitalize on the publicity over the Sotomayor confirmation hearings to solidify Democratic gains among Latino voters.

As ABC’s Viviana Hurtado is reporting, Latino organizations are organizing confirmation-hearing “fiestas” to celebrate the nomination -- and to serve as organizing hubs if community leaders perceive bias in the hearings that they choose to respond to.

Go REPUBLICANS! Go LIMBAUGH!
We need to give $25 dollars to the Limbaugh show to help hold the Democratic party back!

As a Latino.. these ads insult me as I too am Republican and from PR. While I admire Sotomayor, I too am disturbed at how she will judge.

We are supposed to elect judges to rule on current law, not make law up, or let personal feelings into it. If she's willing to do that, put those feelings aside.. then a big "wepa" to her.

If she cannot, then unfortunately, she shouldn't be a justice. simple as that.

It appears the Democrats are running scared today. Already, there are holes all over the place in Sotomayors confirmation. I pray this woman will NEVER be confirmed. She is a proven racist!

Posted by: dk | Jul 13, 2009 12:31:27 PM

I, too, am a Latino. I hope Sotomayor is NOT confirmed. She has done NOTHING for Latinos and as was already stated, is a racist....she doesnt like men of all color.......I don't see her being confirmed and this will damage Obama for the future.

Sotomayor said "I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life." If a white man said what Sotomayor had said he would be labeled a racist & white supremacist such as "I would hope that a wise Anglo-Saxon man with the richness of his experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a Latina female who hasn’t lived that life." Last time I checked we are all equally part of the human race. So much for equality when Sotomayor talks like a racist. In the future, should only equal opportunity & affirmative action be applied to racists regardless of their race for the Supreme Court? Sotomayor also does not believe in the 2nd Amendment so why should we trust her with the 1st Amendment let alone all the 27 Amendments in the US Constitution? When 3 justices can do the job of judicial activism by judicial coup or judicial fiat just as well as 9, who needs 6 more justices as part of their judicial oligarchy anyway? Would it not help the US economy by not having to pay the salary of 9 activist justices? If former President Franklin D. Roosevelt (Democrat) could expand the court to 15 justices why couldn't we shrink the court to 3 as to do so would be Constitutional when even 1 justice would Constitutionally suffice for the Supreme Court & help our economy?

I have listened to Rush for years because he gives news and information the other news sources never report.

I have never heard him give incoorect
info on purpose.

Latinos are well aware of the differences that individuals bring. After all, Castro is a Latino and look what his philosophy has done for millions of Cubans. It's crazy for these organizations to think that one size fits all.

Dear ME
I know you most be an older person
since lobotomies haven't been done for a few years, hence the Limbaugh comment.
If you really believe Rush doesn't give misinformation on purpose perhaps I can interwst you in a bridge i am currently selling?

Roy redford,

"I have never heard him give incorrect information on purpose."

All you have to do Roy, is turn on C-Span and watch YOUR government LIVE. Then you would realize what a bigoted, liar that Limpbaugh is. He couldn't speak the truth if it fell in his lap. That's all, watch your government in action on LIVE TV, then you will know the truth.

Limbaugh doesn't lie?? You cannont be serious!! Let's see, the following are KNOWN for mistruths: Rush, Hannity, Glen Beck, Bill O'Reilly, Mark Levin. They spread hate thru lies and deception IMO.

Gotta love the beauty of the hypocrisy. In the minds of people who created this ad, it's OK to mis-characterize Limbaugh as a "republica leader" (after all he has said on the matter) while it's not ok for Limbaugh to speak his mind about Sotomayor's views (based on what she has said).

Pity the narrow-minded and easily-swayed -- they don't know they're being used.

Then you were not listening the day, during the Clinton administration, when Limbaugh said that Hillary Clinton had Vince Foster MURDERED. He was a good friend of the Clinton's who, sadly committed suicide.

I have absolutely no respect for Limbaugh since that day. He does not report news - he simply uses his microphone to perpetuate any thought that crosses his evil head. The Clinton's, who by the way I did not support, should have sued his fat butt.

Olivia --

Did you listen to Limbaugh during Bush I and Bush II years? Pretending he reserves his criticism for democrats is ridiculous. Did you listen to him during the campaign season? He has always been a critic of John McCain and some blame Limbaugh for McCain losing the election.

He is also quick to point out his mistakes -- if he makes a mistake on his show he will apologize for it ... but more often than no, he's right.

Posted by: Waiting for the New World Order | Jul 13, 2009 2:20:34 PM

Limbaugh didn't cause McCain to lose that election, Palin did. Besides, Limbaugh only WISHES he had hat kind of influence on people, but happily he doesn't!

I have been watching the Confirmation hearing. I find it interesting that the GOP senators keeps saying they want judges on the Supreme Court to be fair, not biased and to make judgements only on the Constitution not on their moral or personbal judgements. But, we all know the truth is they want judges to interpret the Constitution only in ways that reflect their thinking. Any judge who makes a ruling that differs from their views is labeled a "LIBERAL" and a danger. The right wing of the current Republican Party have completely destroyed any credibility that the Grand Old Party had. I am a life long Republican and registered as such, but until the party starts becoming more moderate (like most of it's members) I cannot and will not support them again financially or in the voting booth. The far right just like the far left are a danger to our freedom.

Waiting for the New World Order - Of course, Limbaug has to criticize anyone in power. What kind of following would he have if he did not CREATE news? If he got on the air and said, "Folks, all is well and it's a beautiful day", he would loose his followers who thrive on his nasty comments about liberals, the media, etc. He has his listeners convinced that all the media is out to destroy conservatives. He is a nut and if your "Waiting for the New World Order" name is any reflection on his views - I hope you have to wait a very, very long time.

Posted by: Olivia | Jul 13, 2009 2:32:01 PM

Olivia,
First of all, I am no Limbaugh fan. I've listened on occasion. I am a huge fan of free speech - the good and the bad.

I'm using the name "Waiting for New World Order" rather sarcastically, based on Gore's comments over the weekend in France: "But it is the awareness itself that will drive the change. And one of the ways it will drive the change is through global governance and global agreements." and the fact that the president of Russia left the G8 talking about a new global currency.

World leaders are enthusiastically talking about global governance and global currency -- shouldn't we be happy about that?

Isn't it interesting how easy it was for the Democrats to shift everyone's (or at least those who chose to comment here) focus from the issues surrounding Sotomayor to grousing one way or the other about Rush Limbaugh. And isn't that what most politicians do ... move the focus from the real issues and the politicians real actions/activities to some sort of sound bite "reality". Wake up people to the ways of the politician. Don't be non-thinking drones!

Posted by: Jim | Jul 13, 2009 2:54:48 PM

Jim,

The only non-thinking drones are the ones brainwashed by FOX news. And oh, add 'dittoheads' to that list too, LOL

"...Tie Limbaugh to Republicans"???

Isn't that a bit like saying that Ronald Reagan reminded one of an old "cowboy" actor?
