MoveOn Attacks Dems Who Voted Against Health Care

November 09, 2009 10:28 AM

Klein_3ABC News’ Rick Klein reports:

The backlash has begun.

MoveOn.org is launching a round of TV ads this week targeting Democratic House members who voted against the health care bill over the weekend.

Thirty-nine Democrats voted against the bill, though MoveOn is starting by targeting only six fiscally conservative "Blue Dog" Democrats: Rep. Mike Ross, R-Ala.; Rep. Jason Atlmire, D-Pa.; Rep. Glenn Nye, D-Va.; Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Va.; Rep. Larry Kissell, D-N.C..; and Rep. Heath Shuler, D-N.C.

All but Ross and Boucher are either in their first or second terms in the House. A spokesman for the group said MoveOn plans to spend $500,000 on the ads, which come as liberals seek to pressure moderate Democrats in the Senate to support President Obama in his quest for health care reform.

"This weekend representatives had a critical choice to make," Justin Ruben, MoveOn.org's executive director, said in a statement. "They either stood up and took a historic vote to fix the health care crisis, or they stood with the vast majority of Republicans and the insurance industry to vote for the status quo."

Watch the ad targeting Rep. Ross HERE.

With the spice comes some sugar: Later this week, MoveOn.org is planning 60 "thank you" events in the districts of Democratic members of Congress who voted "yes."

In addition, Health Care for America Now and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees announced they will begin running ads in 20 House districts this week, thanking members of Congress for their votes in favor of health care reform.

MoveOn....like mold on week-old bread.
Some liberal groups just plain ruin
the appetite.

I know that the libs have no understanding
when it comes to someone following their
core convictions. That is a concept they
have never experienced. These losers
are the one thing that has been transparent in the fight over health care.
Everything else has been a coverup.

MoveOn is attacking the Blue Dogs for voting for the way they thought they should to better the lives of the people they represent and not toeing the party line.

Steele is attacking Rep. Cao for voting for the way he thought they should to better the lives of the people they represent and not toeing the party line.

Politics as usual, move along.

If voting against the healtcare reform bill was the right thing to do then why should blue dog Democrats object to having their vote publicized in their districts? If they are proud of their "no" vote, where's the problem?

(Oh, maybe 'cause when voters find out the bill actually lowers the federal deficit over ten years, gets 96% of Americans affordable health insurance, prevents insurance companies from dropping your coverage, keeps young adults on their parents plan till age 27, and gets rid of the "donut hole", er, voters might be mad their representatives voted against it.)

MoveOn will be giving free advertising to those guys. They voted with the wishes of the people in their districts, just like my Democrat congressaman did. People like me don't care for MoveOn or the people they support. The Obama administration is adding more people like me every day.

At least a few of the dems in the House were listening to the people the past few months. Maybe the rest will start listening around re-election time (when it will be too late for them!)

If Move-on targets reps in conservative districts, it will probably actually enhance their chances of being re-elected.

Moveon should moveon out of the country and emigrate to Cuba or Venezuela.

the full spectrum of ideas is in the democratic party doing the hard work of compromise on the health reform bill. The republicans are all lock step obstructionist robotic NO....the there was CAO

The dems should submit a bill saying it's not a good idea to jump off the bridge and watch the nopublicans jump like dumb mice.

Isn't that racketeering and extortion? Charges need to be brought against the organization. At least one representative needs to come forward and admit that the threat was a factor in their vote.

I see that Amy and a few others still enjoy kool-aid by the gallon. If they could noodle thru it and try to exsplane how they can add millions to the health care system and not increase spending it is over my head. Just where do you think all of the new doctors and nurses are going to come from not to mention the hospitals. The gov. has never done anything on the cheap ie 400,00 dollar hammers and 1000.00 toilet seats not to mention running SS. post office and Medicare into the ground. As for medical care just go back and look at all the VA hospital stories with the rats and year long waits to be seen.Move on . Org is as corupt as acorn and as commuist as Mao.Why anyone would belieave or even listen to them is beyoud me. Ill bet most dont even know that in the bill you will be find 25,000.00 and a year in jail if you do not buy there insurance. or that by law you have to provide all of you banking info with current access codes to the gov, Health czar. READ THE DAM BILL

Mike Ross should be D-AR, not R-Ala.

I have been thinking about the health care reform...what needs to be done is not to allow Insurance company's to restrick you to a state law to tell you you can onley use your insurance for the state you live in you should be able to use your insurance for any state that you choose since you pay for your insurance..So I think this needs to be considered in to our health care reform..Thank You

I smiled a broad smile when I saw the Mike Ross ad here in Little Rock last night.

Way to go MoveOn!
