Election ’09: What to Watch For
ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: Three major races on the ballot tomorrow mark the first high-profile elections of the Obama era.
Getting beyond the traditional caveats -- these are three discrete races that are more likely to turn on local issues and candidates than they are to elucidate key national trends -- Election Day 2009 brings critical lessons about the state of the electorate, as well as the resiliency of the coalition that vaulted President Obama to the White House.

The Note: Rogues & Reset -- Out of GOP Chaos, Dems Take Control
President Obama’s foreign trip starts Monday amid an extraordinary run of Republican scandals and stunners that leave Democrats more in control than ever -- if that’s something they really want, ABC News senior political reporter Rick Klein writes Monday in The Note. And Sarah Palin drops out of sight (though very much not out of mind) after shocking the political establishment by announcing her resignation.

The Note: Ultimate Lines -- Senate Super-Majority May Not Bring Super Results
Just like in baseball, 60 isn’t what it used to be, or what it looks like on paper. Al Franken’s much-delayed victory won’t change the basic math for Democrats around health care and energy, ABC News senior political reporter Rick Klein writes Wednesday in The Note. And Gov. Mark Sanford’s love story may not have a happy ending: A tearful, emotional interview pushes more Republicans past that ultimate line of calling for a resignation.

Sen. Ensign to Acknowledge Affair with Campaign Staffer
Sen. John Ensign -- a rising Republican star who has been discussed as a possible 2012 presidential candidate -- is poised to announce that he had a “consensual affair” with a campaign staff member whose husband worked in his Senate office, a Republican official tells ABC News.

The Note, 6/10/2009: Deeds & Words -- Can Obama reconcile with himself on health care reform?
It’s a day for outsiders -- at least in Virginia -- and President Obama needs to channel some campaign energy to play the inside game in Congress, as his healthcare plan takes shape with perhaps two campaign pledges left in the past, ABC News senior political reporter Rick Klein writes in the Wednesday morning Note. And with Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s confirmation hearings set, we hope her brother has cleared his schedule.
