'Top Line'/'Post Politics' -- Tea Parties vs. McConnell in Kentucky

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports:

Next Tuesday marks perhaps the biggest day in politics until this fall, with three big Senate primaries plus a special House race in Pennsylvania drawing particular notice.

In Kentucky, tea party activists are backing Rand Paul against Trey Grayson, in a race that pits the conservative grass-roots against the GOP establishment – including the Senate minority leader, Mitch McConnell, Kentucky’s senior senator.

We talked about it on “Top Line” today in our “Post Politics” segment with Amy Gardner, who wrote about the race in The Washington Post this week.

“Trey Grayson has not inspired the base nearly to the extent that Rand Paul has, and so it’s fair to say that this is a referendum on the candidates and not their proxies,” Gardner told us. “On the other hand, Rand Paul is not-so-subtly rebuking establishment, business-as-usual politics, and that's … code for Mitch McConnell.”
