Obama Friend Artur Davis Loses Bid to Become Alabama's 1st African-American Governor

ABC News' Teddy Davis reports: President Obama's friend Artur Davis, a Democratic congressman who met the future president when both were students at Harvard Law School, was crushed in Tuesday's Alabama gubernatorial primary.

Davis was defeated by Alabama Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks.

With nearly 70 percent of precincts reporting as of midnight, Sparks was ahead of Davis by a 64 to 36 percent margin.

Davis was an early backer of Obama's presidential campaign, but he voted against the president's health care overhaul in an effort to keep himself viable in November.

In the end, Davis didn't make it out of the Democratic primary.
