ABC News’ Matthew Jaffe reports:
Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner will undergo surgery today for a kidney stone, a spokesman at the agency announced this morning.
Treasury spokesman Steve Adamske said Geithner was admitted to a Washington hospital for surgery on the problem.
“Secretary Geithner was admitted to George Washington University Hospital this morning for treatment for a kidney stone,” Adamske said in a statement. “He will have a minor surgical procedure this afternoon to remove the kidney stone, and his physician expects that he will be discharged tomorrow with orders to rest this weekend.”
Geithner was set to appear on the three networks’ Sunday morning talk shows to discuss the ongoing tax battle in Congress, but his surgery will prevent him from doing so.
“He has been told that he should be able to return to work on Monday,” Adamske stated.
