ABC News’ Michael Falcone reports:
NEWINGTON, N.H. -- Donald Trump came to a defense contracting firm condemning in the sharpest possible words President Obama’s fiscal policies and the country’s economic competitiveness with China.
“China is raping this country,” Trump told employees at Wilcox Industries, a company that manufactures tactical equipment for U.S. military forces.
As a potential presidential candidate Trump has been critical of the Obama administration’s approach to the Asian economic powerhouse. At a news conference at the airport just after landing his helicopter in New Hampshire, Trump said China is taking over the world because its leaders are smarter.
Trump also vowed that, if elected, he would “put the country back to work.”
“I’m a worker,” Trump told a crowd of about 100 in Newington.
“When this country became great was the industrial revolution,” he said. “We are now the opposite of the industrial revolution, and pretty soon we are going to fall off a cliff.”
Trump’s stop here was his third since arriving in New Hampshire Wednesday morning. He held a press conference after his helicopter touched down at the Portsmouth airport and briefly spoke with residents at a nearby diner.
“Oh by the way, I don’t know if you heard? Did you hear?” he asked the Wilcox Industries employees, referring to the news that the White House released a copy of President Obama’s birth certificate this morning just as Trump was arriving in New Hampshire.
“I am so proud of myself,” he added. “I got this guy to release his birth certificate. I’m really, really happy.”
This afternoon Trump is heading to a New Hampshire Republican Party fundraising luncheon in downtown Portsmouth. He also plans to tour several local businesses before meeting with activists in Dover.
