GOP Rep. Kinzinger: Boehner Plan Will Pass Today; Time to ‘Know When You've Won’

ABC News’ Rick Klein ( @rickklein ) reports:

Momentum seems to be coalescing behind a modified version of House Speaker John Boehner’s debt-ceiling plan, with a vote expected this afternoon.

On ABC’s “Top Line” today, a freshman Republican, Rep. Adam Kinzinger, told us that he expects the bill to finally pass today, with recalcitrant lawmakers realizing that this is the best deal they can get.

“It looks like it's going to pass out of here today,” said Kinzinger, R-Ill. “And I think the key is once again the House of Representatives has passed a plan -- has passed something. And you know, look -- we need … dancing partners on the other side here to get something through by August 2.”

“The Senate will either take it up or table it, but they'll make a decision. Look, ultimately I think we've come to some kind of a conclusion that probably nobody fully loves but, you know, both sides or at least a majority can fully tolerate.”

Kinzinger said he does not “question the motives” of his fellow freshmen who are voting against the Boehner proposal, but said he feels he’s doing the right thing for his congressional district and the country.

“August 2 I think is a very real date a date which has some consequences,” he said. “Know when you've won. And I think we're at that point now where we will come to some kind of final solution that I think will be somewhat agreeable to most people.”

And he added that he hopes the coming votes will calm jittery investors.

“The markets can relax a little bit. The American people -- you know, keep paying attention, but breathe easy because I think we're going to come to some kind of conclusion here.”
