This morning our Political Unit broke news when Barack Obama for the first time inched into the lead in its tally of Democratic super delegates. That inspired the attached charts – showing Obama and Hillary Clinton’s accumulation of pledged delegates, super delegates, total delegates and total votes this year.

We’re fond of numbers here in the Polling Unit, but sometimes pictures sure help tell the story. Click here to see our slides on how the Democratic primary campaign has unfolded so far.

(Note, we've time-stamped the charts that include superdelegates; they're a moving target that our Political Unit continues to track. And we've run popular vote three ways - without Florida or Michigan; with Florida but not Michigan, where Obama wasn't on the ballot; and with both. Take your pick.)

I hope this isn't more pie charts.
That was years ago!

I guess th charts tell the story. Despite Rev Wright, the "bitter" deal and anything else they threw at him, Obama came out ahead...

Senator Obama brings the most important aspect of all to the country,i.e., honesty and leadership. He is full of vitality and has the ability to make positive impacts in all areas of government. To underestimate his positive attributes would be a grave mistake.

Well I guess if Obama has won and it's over for Hillary I can start supporting John McCain.

Something tells me it's not over yet. Obama is arrogant and believes he has won but Ted Kennedy has not done a hat dance yet.

The news media is trying to wrap this election up but it just can't seem to declare a winner. Hillary just seems to cause them to grind thier teeth.

I always knew there is more to the story about Obama than is now being told by the news media.

Hopefully, if Obama BUYS the nomination, Hillary will be brave, drop the DNC and run in the general election as an Independent. Obama cannot win the Presidency without her supporters, and McCain will loose to Hillary due to her economic strengths and opposition to the war. If Hillary bravely defies the system and goes Independent, watch millions of Americans go Independent with her. GO HILLARY!

I think that when all is known about Obama, we will be a spectacle in the world's eyes again. Can't we get it right? Can't we use reason and logic? We need to know who we are voting into our highest office. This should not be a popularity contest. there are too many unknowns and too many unsavory people in his background that are not explained completely to anyone's satisfaction. It's not enough to 'look ahead' and to proclainm 'noble principles'. We are what we do! AND we are jusged by the company we keep!

If the Democratid Party Leaders shove Obama at the public as 'our' candidate, many of us will not stand for it. They are electing McCain by doing this.

Obama will never get my vote and nor will any superdelegates running for congress in my state. (Since they voted for him.)

Hillary's supporters are not going to go quietly. She has been targeted by the Dem leaders and the media while Obama was treated as 'off limits' to any tough scrutiny.

Hillary or McCain '08

Drugs Didn't Hurt Obama
In tonight’s papers there was an article by Joseph Califano, chairman of the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University. "The drug problem on American campuses has become so extensive that more and more university police are finding they don't have the manpower to fight it by themselves".

Which begs the question how will Obama as President handle this crisis for our young people? Another valid question. Obama's use of cocaine and marijuana as a young man, which Obama has been open about in his memoir and on the trail just beg for more information. Did he ever give drugs to anyone? Did he sell drugs to anyone? His campaign said to end the conversation that he was "young and irresponsible”. So the answer is he probably shared drugs with other college kids if he was irresponsible.

In Henderson, Nevada during his visit a question was asked about drug legalization. The questioner claims that the "failed drug war" has killed more people than all the wars in American history combined; he then notes that had Obama been arrested when he did drugs as a teenager, he probably wouldn't be running for president today. Interesting thought, but he wasn’t caught or if he was it has been removed from the records, (having worked for lawyers I realize this is easy to do). The question was asked "Will you end this drug war?"
"I am not interested in legalizing drugs," Obama replies. "But what I am interested in is putting more emphasis on a public health approach to drugs, and less on the incarceration approach to drugs." I’m not sure what this really means except it sounds to me that he doesn’t think it should be against the law (less emphasis on incarceration approach). No changes coming here with Obama at the helm.
The message Obama is sending to our young people is that you can take hard drugs for years, break the laws, harm people’s lives and it is okay if you are “young and irresponsible” and you can grow up to be President of the United States. So you Superdelegates you are going to lose this election by the selection of this candidate as you cannot fool the American people all the time!

I received an e-mail of a photo of Obama, Richardson, Clinton & Harkin. I refuse to vote for Obama because he refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance or put his hand over his heart during the Pledge. He needs to learn respect and honor. You surround yourself with advisors to assist in leading but love and respect of County comes from the heart and he is lacking.

What is with the quote "Hopefully, if Obama BUYS the nomination". I gave money, like many others for the first time in my life for Obama and I started as a Hilary supported. Just because she can't get enough supporters to commit to her with their money doesn't mean he is the rich guy. Remember, she started out with a record campaign fund. She just managed her campaign very poorly. Also, this idea that Obama is a mystery is another excuse, his life is a very open book. You just need to read it.
