Doug in the 1st Person

Doug Vogt -- the cameraman working with Bob Woodruff when they both were injured by an IED over the weekend -- also covered the Indian Ocean tsunami for ABC News in 2004. He wrote about his experiences in the Digital Journalist, a magazine for photo journalists. The article offers some insight into what it's like to do his job and we thought you'd find it of interest: Heroes and victims need witnesses to tell their stories. One such place certainly had its heroes and victims but sadly almost no one is left to tell about it. I have been a professional cameraman for 25 years and knew well how difficult it is to illustrate scenes of natural disaster. We arrived in Colombo, Sri Lanka December 27th, part of the first wave of those dispatched to scenes of the tsunami, a word many have just learned, a word unlikely to ever be forgotten. [READ MORE]

There have been 2,444 coalition deaths, 2,242 Americans, one Australian, 100 Britons, 13 Bulgarians, two Danes, two Dutch, two Estonians, one Hungarian, 26 Italians, one Kazakh, one Latvian, 17 Poles, two Salvadoran, three Slovaks, 11 Spaniards, two Thai and 18 Ukrainians in the war in Iraq as of February 1, 2006, according to a CNN count. (Graphical breakdown of casualties). The list below is the names of the soldiers, Marines, airmen, sailors and Coast Guardsmen whose deaths have been reported by their country's governments. Why do you bring in Charles and Dianne for World News Tonight? Elizabeth Vargas is capable of presently the news without their egos.
Hopefully, Bob Woodruff will be back however I doubt that it will be anytime soon. My best wishes for a complete recovery for him. They made a good team.
