Presidential Diversion
March 01, 2006 12:04 PM
White House correspondent Jessica Yellin was traveling with the President until Air Force One made a surprise diversion to Afghanistan:
The White House press expected President Bush to stop in Afghanistan at some point on this trip. It seemed inevitable it would happen, we just didn't know when.
We first got wind of the AF1 diversion when our press plane landed in Shannon, Ireland to re-fuel Tuesday night. We turned on our BlackBerrys and started receiving "unconfirmed reports" that Mr. Bush was going to Kabul before heading to New Delhi. One ABC producer in Pakistan had it confirmed but White House officials weren't talking. So we re-fueled and flew to Delhi.
We landed in 70 degree weather in the middle of the afternoon here -- though the dead of the night back in the States -- loaded onto tiny white buses and started logging-on to our wireless devices. Email told us that the White House had confirmed it. The President would spend 5 hours in Afghanistan. It turns out he was there for about 4. White House officials say the trip has been in the works for the last 8 weeks, but kept under wraps because of intense security concerns.
Mrs. Bush visited Afghanistan as did Vice President Cheney. We knew the President would have to visit as well. We just didn't consider it might happen today -- during the half day of quiet we usually use on these foreign trips to set up our computers and workspace as the President heads our way.

I am embarassed and disgusted with this administration. George Bush is a narcistic
liar and his cronies Cheny, Rumsfield and
Condoliza are compicit acomplices. The next election can't come soon enough and we need some kind of a miracle to extract ourselves from Bushes
War...Heaven help us....
