An Update on Bob

April 24, 2006 4:40 PM

ABC News President David Westin updated Bob's colleagues on his progress earlier this afternoon:

Abc_041_1 I had a long visit with Bob and Lee over the weekend. It was wonderful to see Bob with his family, at home, in an environment filled with love and laughter.  As always Bob and Lee repeated how deeply grateful they are for all of your support and prayers.

You need to be with Bob for only five minutes to marvel at his remarkable progress.  He continues with his outpatient treatment which will probably go on for a while.  He needs a good deal of rest, and the doctors are trying to make sure that he eases himself back into normal life.  But for us who know and care for Bob, spending time with him simply reinforces how much he is himself in every way – his sense of humor, his curiosity, his determination and his ideas about how we can better cover the news.

As the days and weeks go on, I expect that we'll all be seeing more of him.  But, as before, it's important that we let Bob and Lee do this on their timetable.

Since hearing of your injuries (I shuddered when I heard) my heart has been with you and your family. Can't wait to see you on the air again!

Recovering from Traumatic Brain Injury takes a long, long time. Injured seven years ago, I only have about two good hours a day before my brain shuts down. The other 22 hours I am dizzy and disoriented. And, I was not as badly injured as Bob. Thank God for the brain injury rehabilitation people who helped me get this far. Good Luck to Bob.
