Doug Vogt visits ABC News
April 28, 2006 5:51 PM
Doug Vogt, the cameraman injured alongside Bob in Iraq, visited us in New York today. ABC News President David Westin sent this message to the staff:
Both Doug and Vivian reiterated their appreciation for all the thoughts, prayers, and support they have received from so many people these last three months, as well as their great admiration for the medical treatment that Doug has received from the military. It was wonderful to see Doug reunited with so many of those who have worked with him all around the world over the years. Today was a very good day for all of us at ABC News.

I have long been fascinated by the way in which otherwise fairly sophisticated health professionals such as Dr. Johnson choose to ignore the ample evidence of effectiveness and safety of nutritional supplements.
He knows that there is a difference between how the FDA regulates drugs vs foods, and he know that the the FDA has full authority to regulate unsafe supplements. He knows that in general, the potential benefits of rational supplementation far, far outweighs any safety risks. He knows that regular supplemention would significantly reduce overall health care costs. His TV report was biased and misleading. And it is a shame.
