Elizabeth Welcomes Katie Couric to Evening News
April 05, 2006 7:41 PM
A transcript from tonight's broadcast follows:
Before we go, a note about a new competitor. Katie Couric -- whom you may know from her 15 years as host of NBC's Today Show -- announced she'll be leaving her job at the end of May to anchor the CBS Evening News. It's great to welcome another woman to the evening news... and we wish her luck.
We've also posted a video excerpt. [WATCH]

Elizabeth,I can just imagined, what the tooth-slayers said, when the first woman town crier came up on board. Their goes, the news as we know it! Yeah, one tavern buddy said to another> I suppose all were going to get in the town news, is recipes, for pudding pie? Well, Elizabeth, it did not matter what the gossips, in the tavern drank out> Town-criers,are no more. I suppose, that is the way of the PM news cast? News is the same, no matter how you get it? PM news is slowing coming to a death. No more, is the father going to come home, props, his feet up in the lazy-boy, and peer over the top of his newspaper, at, Katie, Elizabeth, or even Walter. The two income couple, will checks, the headline at Yahoo, Goggle, or some other search engine. While hacking into their e-mail, to deterred, if this new form of town crying, has anything that they want to read, or replay the video, of what you think is important. Elizabeth, when, Katie goes to CBs, their rating, are going to go sky-high. Like vistors, to a zoo, gaching, at a new baby hippio, the first interest will be strong. But babies grow up, and people lose interest.

Katie, Congratulations. As I think of you I realize all of what you have been through in your life and personal life. You have stood strong and loyal and wonderful. Maybe this promotion is God's gift to you for all you have been through. Can't wait to see you on your new screen. Wendy Benedetti aged 55

Good luck, CBS. Your rating are going in the dumper.
You could not have chosen a better replacement for the traitor, Dan Rather. It is always best to replace one for another. That silly, giggling, female twit will drive viewers away in droves.
You have my undying gratitude, now I can watch the Today Show again.

Elizabeth, I have been a passionate viewer since the 6th grade. I am now forty. I have been watching wnt since Frank Reynolds was anchor.
I have seen most the faces come forth and sadly see them leave as well. I loved Peter Jennings and still miss his handsome charm coming through the airways.
When you and Bob were annoucned as anchor and coanchor I thought how great is that.
I was proud of you and me being hispanic (mexican)
I thought, "we have arrived".
As for Bob Woodruff, when it was announced we would be in Iraq, I thought to myself he is in the most dangerous part of the world. He is there to bring us the viewers news from this hotspot. Then I thought about his family. I thought his wife must really miss him and his children as well; if he had any. Unfortunately, my fear came to pass.
I prayed for him and your camera man often as I do for our troops, their families and the poor innocent civilians.
ABC NEWS has a unique format that keeps vieweres watching for years as I have. Don't worry about ratings. No major network comes close to ABC WNT.
I thank God for Bob Woodruffs recovery. He looks grand.
Congradulations on your "fingerprints of love".
Your faithful viewer,
Anna.

Does anyone else remember when the Liz Vargas used to post here? Isn't this supposed to be a forum for the viewers to interact with her? Having watched the news when she announced this, I got nothing out of this posting.

A photojournalist for many years, I want to commend ABC for their splendid anchor, Elizabeth Vargas. Somehow, she always hits the right buttons--never too smiley, never cold or dispassionate, always sincere. She has become my most favorite 6 o'clock national news person. (I do tune in to Bob Schieffer on CBS for the half hour before her)
My whole family enjoys her straightforward reporting style.

I just watched WNT 4/20/06 and need to point some more information out about the so-called bomb scare at the Atlanta airport yesterday. I was on Airtran flight 601 from Myrtle Beach to Atlanta. It was scheduled to leave MYR at 12:40 am was to arrive at ATL at 1:55 pm.
To start with it was 30 min late. After we boarded and started taxiing down the runway we were shut down. According to the pilots Atlanta's weather had become severe and we were not allowed to take off. We sat there for over an hour waiting for Atlanta to grant permission for us to take off (storms to pass).
As we neared Atlanta we were met by another round of thunderstorms. Approaching the airport we were directed to fly in circles.....something about a security breech. No planes were being allowed to land or take off. The turbulance was similar to a sickening roller coaster ride.
I do NOT think TSA should get away with a simple oops. We were not allowed to land until 3:50 pm. That's how long we were bounced around in rough turbulance! I was scheduled a 2 hour and 20 min layover before catching my connecting flight. The way it turned out I had 10 minutes from the time I hit the concourse to find my gate, sick, shaken & nauseous in the midst of chaos!
