Dapper Tapper?

June 22, 2006 2:31 PM

060621_jake Yesterday, if you caught the webcast [Flash, RSS, iTunes]... You may have noticed the way ABC's Jake Tapper knotted his tie. It was a bit thicker than others -- tied in a double windsor, or for tie purists, as a full windsor. After the webcast some of us asked -- are thick knots back in fashion?

Well, here's your opportunity to tell us what you think of Jake's fashion sense... And perhaps comment on other blog posts too.

Good for Jake. While I am not the biggest fan of large tie knots, it is nice to see some variety. Perhaps, Mr. Gibson could try a full windsor in the future, although, he is almost always impeccably dressed to begin with. His blue shirts with the white collars are especially handsome.

Thumbs down, Jake. Not only the size of the Windsor knot, but the collar's wide spread and long points make your head look small and your neck non-existent. Try a medium spread and shorter points, not to mention a less garish tie. And for goodness sake, if you want to catch people's eye with a Windsor knot, be fastidious enough to adjust the knot high enough so your shirt doesn't show above it. Sloppy even with a four-in-hand, unforgiveable with a Windsor!

On you, it might look best with a winged collar. Caution: Do not try this on the air!

I like the French knots> Unfortunately, I could never get the hand of how to tie one> Hey why not a feature story. on how to tie the different types of tie knots?

Seriously? no...

Well Jake looked pretty dapper, I must say. It seems to be the rage with the younger newsmen, though I haven't seen Anderson Cooper with one yet. Charlie, well may be a little old for the wide knot, he just needs a few new good looking ties. I am sure in NYC he can get some, now that he doesn't have to get up at 4:00AM after Wednesday.

Cover the news losers

Is this a joke?

Really. All work and no play and all that, but goodness.

For the love of God, are you kidding? Who cares if he uses a double (or full, if you prefer) windsor or a taut line hitch? I realize blogs are a more informal medium than "conventional" news sources, but does this really have a place on an official ABC News blog? It would make more sense to create a MySpace entry for Mr. Tapper and open the lines up to questions in that forum.

Hmm. I think you're right! Journalists are the intellectual dandies of our century, always willing to follow that season's idea of truth! I understand that Brian Williams is working on a girdle and a pompadour right now!

Unbelievable. You guys really do think that it's all about you, don't you?

Oh so glad that ABC news understands the significance of its role as a purveyor of trivial trash - oops - I mean, important world events!

Ooooh, what kind of yogurt does Jake like to eat? I demand to know!

Sexy - masculine - in fact, a knot I've liked for years. On Jake, the full (phat!) Windsor looks great (like his pocket squares, too, when he wears them). Now that Cary Grant's gone, and most of Hollywood's gone to jeans, somebody's gotta have a little style!
